Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Report: Carson Wentz has fracture in back
11257.jpg

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Carson Wentz has a fractured vertebra in his back.

The fracture will reportedly heal on its own with rest, so he will avoid surgery. Schefter reports the Eagles are doing additional tests to determine if he can play through the issue. With Philly's playoff hopes hanging on by the thinnest of threads, it is likely Wentz will be shut down for the rest of the season. Nick Foles will start as long as Wentz is sidelined.

im sorry but philly must know their year is basically over anyway especially with how that team has played apart from wentz - just shut down wentz for the year - dont even consider getting him to play through it

Where are they operating on these guys? Public toilets?

Derrius Guice had additional knee surgeries
13094.jpg

An infection in Derrius Guice's torn ACL required three additional knee surgeries and brings his 2019 availability into question.

Guice tore his ACL last preseason and should've made a smooth recovery, but the infection severely complicated his rehab. The infection lasted two months after Guice's ACL tear, "prompting seven weeks of heavy rounds of antibiotics through a catheter in his arm." Guice admitted there is "no specific timeline" for his return. This is especially unfortunate news after Alex Smith's complicated broken-leg surgery put Smith's NFL future into doubt.
Skins can't catch a break. Who are they sending their players to, the Witchdoctor, MD

I don't know if this was discussed, but apparently it's not just the Raiders football team is a trainwreck, but the organization is too. Looks like they (along with the NFL) are in a lawsuit against the City of Oakland. In the article, it talks about the city claims that the Raiders and NFL violated "federal antitrust law and California civil laws by attempting to facilitate the Raiders' planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2020."
https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/12/13/oakland-raiders-nfl-lawsuit-move-las-vegas

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, since the Raiders withdrew a deal to stay in Oakland in 2019, it looks like they might play somewhere else like sharing Levi's Stadium with the Niners, playing in San Diego (LOL), or playing in Nevada (Reno or Vegas).

Yep, we mentioned this the other day.

Interesting.
Also, it's official - Davis indeed is an idiot.

Amari: Owner wanted to make trade, not Gruden
10310.jpg

Speaking with The Athletic's Calvin Watkins, Amari Cooper said it was Raiders owner Mark Davis who wanted to trade him, not coach Jon Gruden.

This is a hard one to decipher. It's possible Davis was just falling on Gruden's sword so as not to make the coach the bad guy. It will also fuel the somewhat persistent rumors that the Raiders are having "cash flow" issues, which remains nearly impossible to believe for an NFL franchise. Although Cooper has blown up for the Cowboys, trading him was not an indefensible decision. With GM Reggie McKenzie recently forced out, Gruden and Davis are an uninspiring duo to have trying to turn around a team.

There is our big opportunity!!!!!!!!!!

Barry Church - DB - Free Agent

Jaguars waived SS Barry Church.

How the mighty have fallen. Church's 2018 campaign with Jacksonville consisted of bottling Gronk in Week 2, getting arrested in London after allegedly skipping on a $40,000 bar tab, and eventually getting benched in Week 12 for rookie S Ronnie Harrison. Church was in on 96% of defensive snaps prior to riding the pine. We expect him to find a suitor shortly given his veteran status.

Another one, as expected, bites the dust.

Martavis Bryant (knee) suspended indefinitely

Martavis Bryant (knee) was suspended from the league indefinitely.

This is the soon-to-be 27-year-old's third ban under the league's substance abuse policy. Having lost his long-running appeal, Bryant is suspended from all league activity indefinitely. It's likely he's played his last down of professional football. Bryant will be an indefinite free agent at the end of the season.

I swear some of these players never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. What a scrub.

I mean if josh Gordon can make it back so can he

And the substance abuse policy is bullshit

It’s not like he’s taking PEDs

Haven't seen too many players get so high that in an outrage they beat their wife/gf up yet alcohol is at every game. And so what about the internal damage those pain meds cause... or the addiction.

Josh Gordon has immensely more talent than Bryant that’s why he made it back. Bryant isn’t worth it honestly. Doubt he will ever play again

That's what I thought. Draft picks imho are massively overrated Davis will regret this trade badly.

Absolutely! We need to snatch this cat up quick fast and in a hurry!

Looks like Big Ben was actually playing with cracked ribs. I guess he was not full of drama. I definitely give Patriots the advantage now. Looks like Conner is also out. We better not slip up today...I swear!
