The last part is incorrect. It’s not the sheer number of free agents you sign vs. how many you lose - it’s the number of qualifying free agents. Players under a vet minimum deal are not qualifying free agents in the comp pick formula.

They also have to be included in the top 32 comp picks

Ok let me give you guys a scenario then. Lets just say Montgomery doesn't get signed by anybody ok but we signed a guy for the vet minimum which would equal us losing 4 and gaining 4 would we lose that comp pick for somebody we signed at the vet minimum? I mean the 4th signee wouldn't be qualifying right?

No, we wouldn’t lose it. Veteran minimum contracts are pretty much treated exactly the same as a cut player would. It wouldn’t factor.

That's interesting. Is there a link for this type of information?

This is not the most current, but you should also see the link I posted above about the cancellation chart, also from OTC. It shows each teams players that don't qualify and they are players that have vet minimum contracts. Now it is possible if this player plays a high percentage of snaps he could end up qualifying, but it's doubtful.

https://overthecap.com/the-basics-and-methodology-of-projecting-the-nfls-compensatory-draft-picks/

More info
In order to qualify for the comp equation, a player must have been a true Unrestricted Free Agent whose contract had expired or was voided after the previous season (i.e., he cannot have been released by his old team); he must sign during the UFA signing period (which ended July 27 last year UFA signing period is over now in May); if he signs after June 1[*], he must have been tendered a June 1 qualifying offer by his old team; his compensatory value or contract value must be above a specific minimum amount; and he cannot have been permanently released by his new team before a certain point in the season (which seems to be after Week 10) or, possibly, before getting a certain amount of playing time, unless he was claimed off waivers by another team.

This is the blog done by the original comp pick expert AdamJT13. He stopped projecting back in 2010 with the new cba and his last blog was in 2012.

That’s incorrect as far as I’m aware - players outside of the top 32 can still count in terms of cancellations I’m pretty sure (they just wouldn’t net you a comp pick themselves
this is possibly true because it's still a CFA

Not really an explanation, but Nick Korte is the expert of comp picks. None of the minimum contracts qualify, and I imagine he’ll adjust Montgomery when the numbers are made official.

Very informative. Tried to study thru it as best as I could and it looks like the cutoff is 1 mil according to these charts since the lowest qualifier was 1.02 while the huighest non qualifier was 950k. Hope Bethel was worth a late 4th. Just kills me that a projected 6th and 7th rd rating killed a 4th and 5th for us. Urban needs to be signed by somebody quick cuz he's definitely worth more than 1 mil a yr.

I guess really in the end since the NFL hasn't openly shared its formula we gonna have to wait and see but I really hope we get the 4th back at least according to what we lost and what we gained in straight up value.

If you look at their link check out the Vikings. They the most damning. Lost like 7 qualified FAs but yet they signed 2 nonqualifiers that showed absolutely no cancellation. Found this very interested since I totally believed the deal as what you posted. Still not taking this for granted since people are actually guessing but they're still very educated guesses.

i can clarify this: vet minimum deals im pretty sure dont count but above a certain level all qualifying contracts count in the formula even if they arent in the top 32...

so its kind of half way between the two of you lol

the cut off goes up every year. Similar to the cap, but that number isn't the same every year and the NFL doesn't give that information out either.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit of Sieler finishes the year starting at the 5T if we don't draft one.

Chris Wormley is Lawrence Guy. Not useless and doesn't have too many weaknesses, but is also just okay at everything. He's a rotational piece and nothing more. He's utterly replaceable(he's by far the worst of the first four picks in 2017. Bowser would thrive on a team that knew how to use him and Williams has shown upside... And frankly despite us misusing Bowser, so has he. What has Wormley done? Look good in some rotational snaps in garbage time? Please).

Sieler as a 7th round pick has more upside, which is fucking hilarious to me. Sieler dominated his level of competion and actually has tools. Wormley didn't. I don't care if "the best ability is availability", if you're as replaceable as Wormley is, how available/useful are you really? What a fucking waste of a pick. At least Urban made a difference on the field when he was there.

I want a pass rushing DT with our first pick. If it's Tillery, or by some miracle Simmons or Oliver, I'll jump for motherfucking joy. It's time to stop settling for guys like Wormley, who are mediocre. Won't complain with Zach Allen either. At least those names have some upside.

And before anyone goes "give him a chance", he's had plenty over the past two years. How is it that Wormley has been as insignificant as he's been on a team that has been struggling as hard with the interior rush for the past two years, who rotates there defense heavily, and has a highly aggressive defensive coordinator? He's had his chances. It's not like Williams or Bowser, the latter of which is misused, and the other is being held out of games because of the fucking doghouse and Harbaugh being a pathetic petty motherfucker.

It's called mediocrity. He was technically sound coming out of school already and isn't a great athlete. He's an average player. He really doesn't have too much room to improve.

pierce hasnt signed his tender yet.

just something annoying to look into

Nothing really to scoff at. Teams have until tomorrow to sign him to an offer sheet, which is highly unlikely. Pierce just keeping that possibility open. He'll sign it next time he's in the facility.

I’d flip shit if we drafted Tillery, I think he’s gonna be a perennial pro bowler and one of the best pass rushing DTs in the league and also a starting 5tech.

Zach Allen though... he’s not a DT lol. He’s got lighter DT size but his skill set is edge all the way, he bends incredibly well from the 7tech and bulls like a monster when given that extra space to convert his jump to power

Wormley has translated to the NFL exactly as they hoped. He has improved in fact. He is great against the run, assignment sound always, good with his hands, very, very difficult to move, has high football IQ, great effort, is versatile, absolutely CAN win one on one vs. guard by way of hands and sheer technique, and most importantly, he plays with consistently tremendous leverage. He will rarely lose that battle.
These sort of skills are not run of the mill or hum. Not by a long stretch. You simply cannot just raise guys up from stones that can play/understand how to play at his level.
If you could, then Belichik wouldn't have Guy so heavy in his rotation. I understand you would like an end that can do all this AND get you 8-10.
I didn't like the warmly pick initially ( wanted Hunt) but I disagree thoroughly about how valuable a player he is right at this moment.
