Honestly. He was what, 340ish before? Even looking at him he was already well fat.....
He needs to lose like 20 pounds, and in an NFL conditioning camp I have 0 doubts about him getting and being ready comp to season.

Non-story. Suggs used to show up as a fat fuck to camp all the time and he was fine. Pierce isn’t a LB or a RB. He’s still gonna be a big guy

I mean, science does show that when you are that big you can lose weight quicker. He has until September. So like 3 months. That’s ten pounds a month if we are estimating that he gained 30.... If a normal person can do that then imagine what an NFL player can do in NFL conditioning.

He won’t be ready to go by Camp but if he gets back in shape there’s no question he should be ready to go by the season.
If he’s gained 30, who’s to say he needs to lose 30? Maybe he did work out some and gain muscle mass along with 20lbs of butter and sugar.

i think he just misjudged his offseason - he came in udfa and had to work his ass off just to make the 53 and then he came into his 2nd year trying to establish himself as a bona fide starter, and in year 3 he had more competition again to keep that starting job - i think he saw it was his contract year and that he was an established guy now and that he maybe didnt have to turn up for the voluntary stuff because lots of vets dont and thats ok - but because hes not not turned up before he doesnt have the conditioning support outside of the ravens to actually get him into football shape unlike Judon who came in with a similar situation all guns blazing because hes got a program that works for him outside of the ravens

not a big deal unless he fails the physical in training camp (and by all accounts hes got a ways to go because hes not even in minicamp shape right now let alone training camp shape)

Thats understandable but honestly this may be a major disappointment. Maybe he did misjudged his off season but honestly Pierce been around enough veteran players and The Ravens conditioning coach to gain tips on how to stay in shape especially during the offseason. This is a contract year for him so his agent should have atleast been trying to push him to be in shape..

I dont think The Ravens gave Pierce a second round tender expecting him to come in mincamp out of shape. I dont question his drive or passion as a player but this dont look good. He may still end up having a better season than last year but teams are now going to question why he didnt show up in better shape in his contract year and if he showed up in mini camp out of shape after getting a second round tender then how will he show up to camp making more than 7 million a year.

But was Suggs out of shape during his contract year? Its probably not even fair to compare Suggs to Pierce as well because he was a first round pick that was consitently one of the better pass rushers in league during his younger days.

He also wasnt easy to replace due to his leadership, ability to handle everydown responsibilities, and etc.

I just wanna know how he expects to lose 30 lbs in just a month while getting himself ready to play football. There is out of shape and then there is "I accidentally ate all the food in the restaurant". How can he possibly be ready to go by camp?
He can do it fore sure.. now if he was already in football shape, it would be impossible but since its basically just weight from him being lazy, he should easily be able to lose it.. He could lose 20 atleast

Have you seen that camp picture of him? His folds have folds dude.
All I'm saying is Fat Albert Aintworth just layed on the field and didn't put out any efford during the season. We are in mandatory camp right now. There's a difference

I know dude, just cautionary tales, you know? I'm sure we have good judgement and Pierce will hit the P90X asap

he looks around 30 pounds overweight. The goal should be losing 8 pounds per week for the next 4 weeks.

So because Suggs was a first round pick and because hes a hall of fame player he’s excused for being a fatass in camp damn near every year before the last one. Yeah that’s a crap argument.

Pierce has been a really good player even as a UDFA since he’s gotten here. It’s embarrassing for sure but to say that he won’t be in shape come the regular season is a stupid ass concern if we work him like a dog in camp

Suggs was always able to magically get the weight off and still be in playing shape and more to the point Suggs was never so out of shape that he had to be pulled from practice for his own safety. The contract year doesn't irk me so much as the fact that he was so fat AND out of shape that he could not practice. Suggs would always put on a few but then drop it off but he didn't miss practice because of it and considering his skill at coming back from injury whatever he was doing to his body was working.

Suggs in 2009 was awful.

Suggs was known for that though.. i dnt think suggs started coming in during offseason like that till he became a vet and team leader anyhow

nobody is wrong for questioning pierce work ethic or whatever.. if he doesnt have a good year, we wont be extending him anyway..

Magically LMAO. You don’t think the training staff telling him to have a cut back on his calories and the rigor of an NFL training camp had anything to do with it. Get fucking real.

Not to get personal but I’m currently going through my own weight loss journey at the moment. I was 5’10, 215 pounds. Not obese or anything since I do lift, but I had a good old beer and ice cream belly. I cut my calories back 500 a day and started exercising reguarly(and nothing too intense) while cutting out alcohol entirely, and I’ve lost close to 17 pounds in the past three weeks. Sure, the first 10 was likely water weight but I don’t exercise for more than an hour and a half a day, and 30 min on my “off days”, and if I can lose that much weight rapidly, imagine what an NFL player can do. Especially when they’re that big, when you can lose greater than the recommended 2 pounds per week.

I normally dog on @Sami84 , but in an NFL training camp with team nutritionists and whatnot, losing 8 pounds a week is more than doable.

Pierce has 3 months to get back into shape. In an NFL camp he should be more than good to go. This is a non-story. Supremely embarrassing sure. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he still plays at a harder level. You think Harbaugh isn’t going to work him like a dog?

We need a shorter offseason.

We probably wouldn't extend if he had a good year. There's a damn good chance he could have a career year and we still dont keep him.
Even with Pierce reverting into a total fatass, I hope we keep him over Bwill. The Mack pick told me that one of the two is as good as gone next year. Last time we picked the wrong tackle over Bwill too, let’s hope we don’t make the same mistake again.
