2019: Week 1 Discussion Thread (Other Teams)

Hall of Famer
Discuss all the week one action here. Previews to come later tonight. Happy 100th NFL!

Packers @ Bears: NFL 100 kicks off with the longest rivalry, the Packers & Da Bears. The Bears season ended on a Double Doink after going 12-4 with a rookie Head Coach in Matt Nagy. Green Bay looks to duplicate that with new Head Coach Matt LaFleur, except the Double Doink part. With a new look defense after signing Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith and rookies Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage, can the Packers stop Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears Defense led by Khalil Mack en route to reclaiming the NFC North Throne?

Rams @ Panthers: The Rams look to avoid the Super Bowl hangover and score more than three points against a Carolina defense that allowed 23.9 PPG last season. Cam Newton has a bum shoulder, a bum ankle thanks to the Pats and he has to deal with Aaron Donald chasing him all day? Looks like it could be a rough outing for the Panthers at home against the defending NFC Champions.

Bills @ Jets: The Bills & Jets look to take the next step in being the one to dethrone the Patriots. Both teams improved their defense in the draft and surrounded their young QBs with new toys to play with. Gang Green is led by Adam Gase who takes over after his failure in Miami, making major splashes in free agency with the acquisitions of CJ Mosley and Le'Veon Bell. The Bills brought in speedy John Brown and Cole Beasly for Josh Allen to throw to and veteran RB Frank Gore to lean on as well. Which second year QB will take the next step and lead their team to victory?

Falcons @ Vikings: This game will have some NFC playoff implications on the line as both teams look to get back to the playoffs in 2019. Minnesota enters year two of the Kirk Cousins experiment and brought in Gary Kubiak to help with the offense. With Kubiak on board, Dalvin Cook could be in for a big season after the Vikings addressed their offensive line with Garrett Bradbury in the draft. The Falcons added two rookie lineman who will be put to the test on the road in Minnesota. With hopes of keeping Matt Ryan more upright in 2019, can the Falcons offense once again soar with the best of them or will the Vikings defense be a No Fly Zone?

Chiefs @ Jaguars: The Madden Curse gets put to the test early on as the Chiefs head to Jacksonville to take on Nick Foles and the Jaguars. Patrick Mahomes wowed everyone this past season, but with a year of tape to watch will defenses figure out how to stop him? The Chiefs biggest problem was their defense and hope Steve Spagnolo will fix it along with new pass rusher Frank Clark and Safety Tyrann Mathieu in the backfield. The Jags hope there is some magic still left in St. Nick this season as they hope to advance one game further than they did in 2017, the Super Bowl.

Titans @ Browns: The Hype train has arrived in Cleveland as for the first time in 20 years, the Browns have hope. The Browns finally landed a Franchise QB in Baker Mayfield who now has OBJ to throw to when he's not fighting Kicking Nets. The Titans meanwhile....... who knows what's going on with them. Marcus Mariota is in a make it or break it year with a great QB class if he doesn't perform well. Without Andrew Luck, this might be the best chance for the Titans to take the next step but if Mariota gets hurt, how confident can fans be about Ryan Tannehill?

Colts @ Chargers: How much longer can we hype up The Chargers only to be disappointed by them? Through different coaches, the team has always performed well but never had the playoff record to show for it. Now they will be without Melvin Gordon who is pulling a Le'Veon, promising Safety Derwin James is out for half the year, and it seems the excuses are already built in. The Colts meanwhile are happy with Jacoby Brissett but with this team being different from 2017, could the Colts and Jacoby Brissett shock the world?

Bengals @ Seahawks: With AJ Green out for the first few games, the Bengals offense will be relying on Tyler Boyd, John Ross and undrafted rookie Damion Willis at WR. Their offensive line took a hit when they lost Jonah Williams, thankfully the Seahawks traded Frank Clark and replaced him with.... Jadeveon Clowney?! Seattle looks to overtake the Rams for the NFC West and will we see our first Shirtless Super Bowl Celebration?

49ers @ Buccaneers: The 49ers travel out east to start the season as they visit Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers. Kyle Shanahan is hoping Jimmy G recovers well from his torn ACL and shows why they traded for him. With a new look defense led by Dee Ford and rookie Nick Bosa, the 49ers look to eat a major W to start the year. Will Bruce Arians get enough out of Winston to finally show he can be the guy?

Everyone talking about the Packers/Bears are mentioning Rodgers vs. Trubisky. But I think this game may be decided by the defenses.

I don’t think the Bears are expecting Trubisky to go toe to toe with Rodgers, but more so for their defense to limit him and force a couple of turnovers. Gotta think this game will come down to the special teams, and maybe Eddie P getting his spot to prove that he’s the kicker the Bears needed.

mike pettine vs chuck pagano...
could be interesting - pettine with his 6 dbs and pagano with his fun chaotic blitz packages

will be hard to have the bears maintain the defensive level they had last year while its hard to imagine the packers not improving on defence with their influx of talent

will be really interesting to see matt lafleur's offence run by aaron rodgers though

Yeah I think the packers offense is the big unknown. The team in its entirety I guess, because of the potential progression with the defense. With Aaron Rodgers at the helm and a top 5 WR in adams, the offense will be good regardless, but yeah it’ll be interesting to see if the Bears can get after him.

Because like you said, Bears probably can’t duplicate last year, but they’ll still be a great defense.

Thinking this comes down to who has the ball last and if the Kicker is good enough to make the game winning Field Goal. Over/Under is 46.5 Points.... way too high. I say combined score goes a max of 20.

Packers on offense to start, first play a run but stopped by Roquan Smith. This has the early makings of a defensive slug fest.

The Packers offensive line is getting destroyed by the Bears front 7. This game will come down to Mason Crosby and whoever the Bears Kicker is at the end of the night.

38 Yard Field Goal........ IS GOOD! Bears lead 3-0 as the crowd in Chicago exhales lol.

GOT DAMN! Surgical drive by the BAD MAN himself.

It looks like our offense woke up!

I know the Bears are the flashy pick but at the end of the day you don't doubt Aaron Rodgers. That's why I picked the Packers to win because I trust Rodgers more so than I do Trubisky. Rodgers right now is getting into rhythm which is not what the Bears want, very nice adjustments made by their coaches early on. I doubt that happens with Mcarthy if he was still Head Coach.
