Miles Boykin - He Deserves His Own Thread

for all the talk of "you dont just forget how to catch balls" that may be true, but NOTHING gets into a WRs head more than drops. if a wr with great hands has a lot of drops early on, they start overthinking, actively trying not to mess up when catching and it just ends up making things worse, the overthinking creeps into the rest of their game. thats how sure handed guys end up flaming out due to drops. its literally what happened with jordan matthews, he was a surefire possession receiver in the nfl, and he had a moment where he was that, but the drops kept piling on and got worse and worse and more frequent, and now hes barely heard from.

Tbh in Matthew's case injuries have derailed his career.
I haven't watched every second of the 2nd game yet. Who was the Qb when those drops happened?

Matthews was great early on and in about 2 years became phillys most hated player due to drops and he was bound to be shipped off before any injuries.

And I believe it was mcsorley, hit Boykin on a quick slant and he was covered to the rear, and the ball was a little high and forward, but he reached and firmly got both hands on it, and just dropped it. Then last week Lamar hit him on a hitch right in the numbers and it bounced off his chest. Those are just things I don’t like seeing right away from a guy who is supposed to have sure vice grip hands, if it continues it can get into his head, and once that happens it might be all over.

Not saying that’s what’s gonna happen lol, just a cause for concern. Drops really seem to f— with all the non-diva receivers heads, those diva types seem to not care in the slightest when they drop it lol

Boykin with another catchable drop.

Although this one would’ve been exceptionally hard compared to the other drops, really tough adjustment given he was fresh out of his break and going near full speed and the ball was already there.

Seems like timing may be an issue here, he’s got a reputation for getting the hands up late which is usually considered a good thing, maybe on the less accurate passes from the likes of Lamar and mcsorley it’s gonna take a lot of chemistry.

One thing I’ve noticed about him also is he could stand to adjust his depth after his breaks, he’s not cheating back to the ball to buy space, he should’ve done that on the one he dropped and if he did he would’ve been in perfect position to catch it and wouldn’t have had to adjust at the last second

That 44 yard catch-and-run was nice from Boykin so we're just gonna have to deal with the good and the bad until he can clean up his drop issues.
Maybe Boykin can get some pointers from Hollywood because he was making catches look effortless last night in his debut.

I’m excited about our WRs more than I’ve ever been watching this team. We have some real legit potential here

Im seeing a lot more from our recieving corps that I expected, but its still preseason. Id love nothing more than for Lamar and the boys to subvert expectations and just shred the league through the air

They’ve faced some really special receivers in their day, the fact that they’re doing this for the first time that we know of speaks volumes of Boykin, they must see a real special receiver with him
He really can be if he can fix his dropsies. A number of his drops were easily catchable too and that's the most frustrating part of it all.

How has Boykin been looking? Seems like he’s only catching TDs. 1-2 targets a game. Is he just not getting separation?

Boykin had 3 targets and 3 receptions vs. the Browns. He also had 3 targets vs. the Cardinals, but only one catch.

Boykin hasn't done much so far, but he also hasn't played that many snaps. As an example, he played only 21 snaps against the Browns while Hollywood played 56. I really hope that number starts to go up because, outside of Hollywood and Snead, our other WRs haven't shown much of anything this year.

I agree. Boykin - even as a rookie - feels like he's the #3 WRs on the roster (though I've seen Roberts making some good blocks on the outside in the run game).
