General Draft Thoughts

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I'm not seeing Epenesa here. Just think he goes against the whole getting faster thing we've been committing to in the last couple of years. Round 2 if he happened to fall? Sure. Round 1? I just don't believe it until it actually happens.

I do like the player for what it's worth. Just not sure I see the Ravens being overly interested in round 1.

we've been getting faster on offence - i feel like in the front 7 we've been getting more physical vs fast

The draft needs to hurry up and get here because I'm so tired of seeing all of these Twitter mocks with the Ravens taking Thaddeus Moss in the 3rd. If he wasn't Randy's son, no one would even know who he is.
that's exactly what I've been saying to friends off the boards who have brought his name up.

i think you overestimate how much time i spend sleeping - at most im getting 24 hours sleep
there is not a chance in hell you get that much sleep in 4 nights. Oh hell now

BTW, don't miss the draft this year like you did two years ago. Then again it's probably harder to do that this year anyway.

ha 2 years ago i was in the middle of nowhere out of my mind on various substances - and i came back to find that we had got a laundry list of great players (had managed to just about catch the 1st round) but found that we had Orlando Brown, Mark Andrews (somehow - despite going up to get Lamar - my mind boggled at the time), jordan lasley and anthony averett were personal favourites of mine in that draft too - and 12 whole draft picks lol

maybe i should do that again - turned out well last time lol

but even last year i missed day 2 and 3 for some reason (cant remember why)

this year the only threat to me missing any of the draft is being too tired to stay away

I see the opposite. Replaced Pierce and Wormley with Campbell and Wolfe (and can even include Brockers) who are big guys but much more athletic and much more versatile.

Opted to let Bynes walk for minimal money. Still stands to be seen, but would think we're looking to get faster and more athletic here.

I guess my thing with Epenesa is that I don't see us throwing him at OLB in 3-4 and asking him to perform any of those responsibilities. If we were to draft him, I think you're looking at him as more of a 4-3 end that has only a responsibility of rushing the passer. I just can't see us taking an athletically limited guy and plugging him into a select role.

Again, I like the player. I'm just questioning the fit here with how I see us approaching the D.

I think it's time to start hitting on 2nd rounders. I just have a feeling it starts this year. Of course I still count 2018s and 2019s 2nd rounder as LJ's pick and totally worth it.

i cant wait for draft.. i have no idea what position we are gonna draft.. this shit is wild.
this draft is totally unpredictable and imo it makes it even more exciting. We have several different positions that we could draft. imo, our biggest needs are ilb, wr, edge and interior OL and in no particular order.

I can feel a haul coming @rossihunter2

joe hortiz said that they have lots of 'needs' in their eyes which makes drafting for 1 or 2 specific needs completely pointless - it's why they go BPA almost religiously

in the lounge podcast he said drafting explicitly for need amounts to 'devaluing' the pick'

but it means that we're really free to be able to move up and down the board and accrue positive value at will and just acquire good players

i dont think we'll be looking to end up with 12 rookies like in 2018 but i could definitely see us finishing up with 10 prospects

@rossihunter2 do you think CEH will be there for us when we’re on the clock in the second?

I think they move him all around (Epenesa). he can play 5t, 3T and rush OLB. I mean, we had Ferguson playing rush backer and Suggs, though he was as smart as they come, was never what I would call athletic or particularly apt dropping. Epenesa can play that role along with moving a bit.
The other thing is that we play so many 2 down looks and he can certainly rotate that way on passing downs particularly.

other notes from the hortiz appearance (and there arent many because he was even more frugal than usual with information)

- i think there was a little syntactical slip early on when he said he'd be able to tell you a lot more about who we're picking once 27 has been handed in... the way he flippantly said it made me think that trading up really isnt something he's expecting us to do in the first round - only a little thing - but if trading up was a real possibility (or expected possibility) i think he would have answered differently and more guardedly - and it wasnt really big enough to be a smokescreen that other teams could cotton onto (not that it would help them anyway)

- Hortiz reckons there's 15 players that in no scenario would we expect to be available when we pick at 28 but beyond that, because we're picking so late, he hasnt been able to narrow down who might be there when we pick yet

- ultimately the first trait we look for in a wide receiver is still their hands and not a trait like speed - still think the shadow of breshad perriman looms large here - would suggest quick guys like KJ Hamler might not be as high on the ravens board as he could be elsewhere

- he reiterated that speed is a tool - a really useful one to have at WR and certainly something we see as an attractive trait but not being fast isnt a dealbreaker for us - if you have a way to win then that's what we're evaluating (not just pure athleticism)

- OL (might seem obvious) but we're looking for big, smart and tough players up-front - with the way we want to play offence it makes sense for us to be big and aggressive and powerful (was in response to a question about robert hunt - that he skipped by talking generically about what we like in O Linemen)

i'd be surprised if he's there - it's not out of the question but i'd be surprised for sure

feel like the threats to take him ahead of us in the 2nd would be: Bucs, Jags, Dolphins, Steelers, Rams

and if teams thought we'd be a threat to take him i could see the titans, packers and chiefs all think about jumping ahead of our pick(s)

so not out of the realm of possibility but i expect him to go - and honestly im fully expecting the bucs to take him (steelers i think could also be a threat but he'd be their first pick of the draft and im not sure theyd want to do that)

The way he answered the Linebacker/Murray/Queen question made me feel reassured we won't pick a guy like Brooks (said something like: coverage ability) and that pretty much takes Murray out of the equation (caveat)
I like how he basically didn't answer their question about Robert Hunt.
I really don't know why, but why on earth did Mink compare Murray to Ray?
