I feel like Gase is going to be gone after this season, though I do wonder if the number of coaching changes will be much lower than usual and everyone gets a pass due to the pandemic?

Obviously if you need a QB of the future, having a first round pick is very valuable as if you hit on the QB you get him pretty cheap for 5 years. Outside of that though, why are teams willing to give up first round picks like they have in recent years? I know the stars available have been quite surprising and more stars available than usual but giving up a potential good player on the cheap for 5 years to pay mega contracts down the line is a bit odd.

1st round picks are overvalued. Almost 50% of all picks are busts or don't play up to the level they were expected. 2nd, you have a chance to see the player play in your scheme before you sign him to a longterm deal. This allows you to reduce uncertainty you would have if you sign him via FA. You also have the privilege to negotiate a deal, otherwise you have to wait until he hits FA.
The Jets also got a proven S in the deal.
But lets have a look at who the Raiders drafted with their 3 1st round picks they got from the Cooper and Mack trades:
Josh Jacobs, Abram, Arnette and 38m savings this year.
Cowboys definitely won the trade and the bears to lesser extent as well.

Lol I bet it’s something like this for the Seahawks fourms:

Seahawk fanbase on the Ramsey to division rivals, Rams trade: Ha! Rams got robbed! Too much for a CB! Les Snead just ruined their future!

Seahawk fanbase on Adams trade: Let’s go! 2 1st rounders for a All-Pro is worth it! We never draft well in the 1st round anyways. We’re in Win-Now mode!

because 1st round picks are not statistically sure things across the NFL - now some teams have better records than others but especially late 1st rounders dont have crazy high value vs a known quantity

the whole point of the top of the draft is to find stars and high-level contributors so if you can trade a 1st for a star (even if you have to pay them) then the rationale is that it's worth it

tbf all this means is that the seahawks cant go batshit insane in the 1st round and pick someone who has no right being taken that high

It also means two chances the Jets have at screwing up their first round pick. They had a rough decade of first round picks.

That's exactly what I said. 4 out of 9 picks were successful (without 2018 and 2019).

Elgton Jenkins at LG for the Packers is really good lol - could be one of the next future perennial pro bowlers on the IOL in the league - looks like a potential future star
if he wasnt my top player available when we were on the lock, he was top 3 without question.

well to be fair you cant expect every FO to draft like the raiders.

but we ARE talking about the seahawks so they wouldve drafted some abstract 3rd round talent with those firsts anyway.

Hightower has also opted out.

If Bill uses this to Tank for Trevor.......

Also former Raven Michael Pierce who signed a big contract with the Vikings has decided to opt out of the season. Hige hole upfront on that defense.

Another HUGE MEGA CONTRACT for a defensive player. Joey Bosa is tied to the Chargers for the next 6 years.

Giants OT Nate Solder has opted out of the season. This cements first round pick Andrew Thomas as the starter at Left Tackle in week one.
