ferguson still doesnt look very natural rushing off the edge - still looks stiff despite the better shape he's in this year - seems to be trying to get into half the man rather than the whole man but it doesnt look comfortable

maybe im overreacting based on a couple of reps in camp vs Orlando Brown but that was a massive problem for him as a rookie and it would be frustrating if he doesnt shown any improvement

i just noticed that too - fluker's back at practice too - and even more interestingly it included Skura back in at C in stead of Mekari

something to watch
it would be super exciting if tyre phillips could win that role

It would really help too if they can get Fluker some more reps at RT and he can take the "swing T" role with Brown sliding over to LT. Phillips playing well enough to win the RG job would help in a lot of ways.

the idea of Fluker as the 6th OL in jumbo packages is very enticing
but i'm getting slightly ahead of myself - yes Phillips is practicing with the 1s during the scrimmage but it could be that maybe fluker's being eased back into team drills after his back injury

trying not to get too hopeful just in case im disappointed

but id be very excited if tyre won the RG job

Absolutely. I still think it's likely Fluker out there week 1 but that's a lot more questionable than it was even 5 days ago with how many "kind of a report but not really" tweets we've seen in that time.

literally dj fluker missing time due to the back injury has completely opened up the possibility in my head that he wont win

the fact that he didnt instantly get put back in with the 1s on his return really is eye-opening

to me it was already interesting that so many beat guys kind of let it slip in an ambiguous way (to get past embargo) that tyre phillips had been replacing fluker with the 1s - i already found that exciting - but the fact that he's still practicing with the 1s with Fluker's return is really exciting

i have a load of clips still on my laptop for a video i intended to do on Tyre back in May (before my job kicked into full-on mode) and there's so much to work with in his game - i can understand why Harbs was so pumped about the Phillips pick and why he was one of the guys that Harbs really wanted EDC to pick (hortiz or EDC can't remember which one basically said that Phillips pick was basically giving Harbs the guy he wanted at the end of the round after they felt they'd nailed the previous 3 3rd rounders)

and importantly as a candidate for RG for the Ravens - he's 100% someone you can try and anchor a running game behind

this is exciting, because if you had to take a raw ball of clay to mold into a RG for this offense, phillips is kinda what the ball of clay would look like. ive been quietly excited about what he could be for us since we drafted him

has anyone given any reason as to why we can watch actual games in the preseason every year, but we cant watch an intra-squad scrimmage?

Just teams seemingly being extra cautious this year with what info about certain players gets out there. Almost an assumed risk with preseason but if you have complete control, might as well lock it down and give other teams as little info as possible.

I would also assume that they're trying some actual things you might see in season in a scrimmage as opposed to the vanilla nature we often see in preseason.

i saw that rep, he absolutely looked stiff as a board, extremely unnatural.

This is what happens when team have complete control. I've heard across the league that many media members have gotten slaps on the wrist for reporting that a player is on the 1st or 2nd ST unit and if they've taken snaps at a different position or something like that. If it's all in house, you can prevent things from getting out that you don't want to get out. Fans are definitely going into the season as blind as can possibly be.

preseason is all about vanilla schemes and the 1s (and even many of the 2s) dont even play so all you really get is the tape of the individuals but you dont really learn who's playing with which unit, who's in with a shot at what position (OL especially) and what the offence is going to look like

in the practices because they embargo the media on certain things they can fully practice their whole scheme on both sides of the ball without fear of giving over tape to the league because media arent even allowed to report certain things let alone actually video it

think of it more like the joint practices but slightly stricter - the media members got permission to tape 5 plays on offence and 5 plays on defence during team drills vs the jags (i think it was the jags) and that was it
