Surprising double-dip for the 4th year in a row at WR. But Wallace clearly great value at this point in the draft.

Played almost exclusively outside, might play in the slot more in the pros.

Great hands, dominant at the catch-point. Makes some crazy grabs on tape.

Gets re-routed a ton vs physical press coverage and will have to work hard on his releases to stop himself from getting jammed. Shows some nice route-running chops - the sluggo is probably his most exciting and refined route. Sharp on underneath stuff and breaking back to the ball. Finds space in the zone well.

He's physical after the catch and gets YAC and breaks tackles.

Willing blocker but technique might not be great.

Seems to me like a guy who might earn some snaps this year. But also might be someone we hope to groom behind Sammy Watkins to take over some of that Willie Snead role in the offence.

He's going to have to work on his releases but there's some upside in his route-running.

And it should be mentioned with his athleticism that he was coming back from surgery last year so there may be more explosion to come back into his game.

Watching some of his highlights, and Wallace actually really reminds me of Mason. He's just so incredibly sure handed, and will fight for every ball thrown his way even if it's off target.

I wasnt a fan of where he was said to go (2nd-3rd) but late 4th i cant complain with the pick. Added competition and another deep threat out of the slot. I dig it

i dont really have comps normally - only ever give comps when it makes a ton of sense

no one really obviously came to mind for me with tylan
Yeah he’s an odd prospect. I try to think of comps and I see a little of this guy or that guy or whatever, but he’s more of a leverage and sharp break guy than a “release” route runner, and he separates best on horizontal and back breaking routes, doesn’t separate very well on verticals, but catches the hell out of the ball on verticals with some of the best tracking and attacking in the class.

very strange combination of skill sets, they don’t necessarily complement eachother well, but what they do is make him well rounded, because while he isn’t dyami brown on verticals and catching burn downfield, he is still making explosive catches on vertical routes because he just high points it so well. he IS separating very well in most other concepts, so basically he isn’t complete, but he has enough to work with to be a threat for a full route tree.

I could see this being the wr corps that finally Rounds out the ravens. Bateman, Hollywood, and I love Wallace in the slot for this team, keep him away from press as much as possible because he does well with leverage as long as he’s given a step to establish it, and if he’s able to break in any direction then he can separate, then he’s also a big play threat.

here’s to hoping the OL holds up and the play calling isn’t trash, because this group looks different.

throw in sammy watkins with the veteran experience and physicality in his route running (+ the depth of higher quality options might decrease the workload for sammy too which might help him stay healthier with some load management) - and add in duvernay as that gadget home-run type - maybe throw in an end-around or 2 with duvernay in motion and get him working downfield in space with a lead blocker

have we ever drafted a polished route-runner (even without good hands)

i cant think of one from the last decade+
Mark Clayton was actually pretty monstrous with his vertical release game since his Oklahoma days, like he was a pretty polished route runner and was able to separate deep and also make some pretty great plays on the ball despite being short and having only moderate speed, that’s why he was drafted and it showed early in the nfl.

his problem, first of all was health, his career was destroyed by injuries, and secondly he was prone to drops and wasn’t the toughest making catches in traffic, he was tough with the ball in his hands but he shrunk when he was in that “defenseless receiver” state. He was a pretty polished route runner though.

nice knowledge

coz we've drafted plenty of the other half of bloodraven's equation the last 2/3 drafts - guys who have great hands (but mostly aren't great route runners - and certainly not polished - the best route-runner of those guys was probably hollywood but it was more about athleticism to separate than nuance)
