The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Raiders Week 1 Edition

I’ve been on the Westry bandwagon since camp lol. You can’t teach 6’4” for a Corner. He couldn’t have defended that ball to Edwards any better. I’m extremely confident in our DB group.

It's the only reason I don't feel like complete garbage over Peters being out still.

I do think Peters would’ve caught that Pick that went through Westry’s hands, though :(

I have to list all of my pros outside of all this,

Hollywood and Sammy looked amazing. Sammy did exactly what we needed him to do.
If Tyson gets his exchanges down I am really not too worried about this run game, if we commit it looked good.
Bozeman looked good and had no trouble snapping the ball. Huge.
Special teams still has it. Tuckers 47 yarder should have been a game winner and we robbed him of that.
Defense did a good job against the run and looked stout. Cambell finally showed up for a big play with that 4th down stop.

Right now, I would be calling Mitchell Schwatrz and Rick Wagner begging them and hoping they are healthy.
If not, call every team in the league who's trash offering to overpay for a decent tackle. there is quite literally no point of playing this season if we have Al starting at tackle and thats not an over reaction. We will have to play perfect to beat anyone with him there. Its like were only playing 4 linemen.

Probably. Peters knows Carr and I think he may have made a bigger impact than just that pick though.
Most definitely

I agree with this. We’re probably overreacting but this offense is extremely reliant on its line for the formations we run, and if we lose in the trenches, you see what happens like last night

Yeah its an overreaction. We've won playoff games with a statue at QB and James Hurst at LT.

What baffles me a ton is how and why we didnt help al out. I know he was ass but so many other teams have fielded way worse lines than we did last night (the steelers every game...).
The d ends would go straight upfield with no need to contain. Run a fucking draw play, run a screen, put people to chip for Al, get quick slants going. the hell was that about.
Roman thought yea we should just leave al 1 on 1 on 3rd and 7 in an obvious passing down? what the actual fuck is that about.

we did help villanueva out - the first TD drive we gave him help with chips and also even mekari as a 6th OL a few times on that drive

When it comes to V what is he? 280lbs? Where's the beef? Put Mekari in. Zeitler also had a bad game. Our right side was shit and this should be your strong running side and we get a pass protecting lightweight even tho he was garbage on that too Our best linemen were Bozeman and Powers for gawdssakes. V needs to be the swingman but Harbs has gotta be knocked in the head a few times to figger things out. Can we get some correction from Roman? Maybe start chipping with a TE or RB. And thats not the end of it. Can we get any pressure with a 4 man passrush? Where the hell was Madabuike? i don't even know if he even had a pressure. Bowser didn't do shit either. We have to dial up 7 man rushes just to get pressure but yet a double move was puled on Tavon and we had at least 7 men coming and you got time for doubl moves? That's tragic man.

Some of the "goods" I got out of it. Tucker is still Tucker. Hollywood Brown is fucking legit. That was the best 4 yd catch I ever seen. Our corners played well. I mean what you gonna do if the QB is able to sit on a lawnchair with a fucking umbrella drink, get up and stretch and then throw deep cuz you're not expecting double moves with a 7 man passrush. Queen looked good and I think he's only gonna get better. I would send him and Clark on more 5 man blitzes since they do have a QB radar.

Anyways on to KC. No zero blitzes please unless it's 3rd and 35 and we have an 18 pt lead.

My biggest concern with Villanueva's trajectory is parallel to struggles Penei Sewell displayed when switching sides to RT. After being vocal about the difficulty of flipping over, Sewell followed up those remarks with struggle-filled OTAs and an abysmal pre-season. A Taylor Decker injury later, he's reinserted at LT and has a near-banner performance against Nick Bosa and Co. And those two spectrums were mere weeks apart. We can point to the general inexperience, and it certainly plays a part. But Sewell is also arguably one of the more physically gifted tackles in the league. That situation gives me pause when attempting to pinpoint Villanueva's future median on the right side considering he's played 4 snaps at RT in 6 years before this season.

The Offensive tackle play last night was some of the worst iv'e ever seen from a Ravens team . Ill give Ronnie the benefit of the doubt though coming back from injury.
Imagine if we had an immobile QB last night. We would have lost in a blowout.

Yanda’s stellar play masked a lot of issues at both C and RT. Not sure getting a band aid at RT fixes things. That said, Crosby and Ngakoue were a terror last night, we’re not going to face that every week.

Wait till the Steelers and Brown come to town. Watt alone will eat Villaneuva alive.

I agree.. wanted this done during offseason.

Unfortunately, the best replacement for Villanueva just got put on IR, but it's unlikely that Harbaugh/Roman would pull the plug on Villanueva this early. Hopefully we can see a turnaround, but I do not have high expectations. There are things that can be done to help him out (which they did at times last night- having Ricard help him was big and I don't understand why they stopped).

Its not an overreaction if we fail to adjust which Roman year after year proves he is incompetent at doing so. Hurst wasn't good but we helped him with chips and he never allowed 10 pressures in a game. thats an absurd number I dont think many people can grasp.

we helped first half of the game yesterday then decided to abandon in the second half and a 3rd and 7 that mattered most.

Fuck it, DJ fluker sucked but not this bad.

id say it's partly related to the fact that the raiders did not respect the mesh-point

and people need to get over james hurst - he really wasnt as bad as people say he was

Steelers fans warned about this very thing. I heard them, but still, I didn't think it was going to be THIS bad.

Given that all of our Division won their opening games while we didn't, I'm prepared to begin worrying. We got jumpy Lamar when the game needed to be put away. That's the same guy that makes mental errors in big games. This was a big game. Let's not fool ourselves about that. We are not going to beat KC next week and while maybe things balance out down the schedule a bit for all of the AFC North teams, I don't like playing from behind with an injury riddled team who's strong suit is supposed to be its DEF giving up 435 yrds to a mediocre QB.

I hate being negative early, but we have a lot of fixing to do - mainly with adjusting to major injuries - and the season is under way. That is worrisome to me.
