When's the last time we actually had tackle depth that didn't involve moving a guard over? James Hurst? It's crazy.

In the “good” department, it sounds like Hollywood’s injury isn’t serious and there’s optimism he’ll be suiting up Sunday.

I’m not really understanding what the fuck is going on. Are all the injuries just the cause of bad luck?

unfortunately, yes
I know this is probably stupid before I ask, but did Harbaugh and company ride them too hard in training camp maybe?

I’m not chalking up ALL these injuries to bad luck. There’s absolutely no way.

no, not like anything has changed from the past and we have had some of the fewest injuries over the last several years.

That being said, go back to the 70s 80s and 90s when they had ALL two a days. We tend to be one of the most prepared teams in the league for the season. This year we have been so injured that they haven't had an opportunity to practice with one another much.

As @rossihunter2 said, it's. very possible we are too injured to overcome, even with our depth.

why not - its not like these are muscle strains and stuff like that...

You don’t just lose half your team to injuries by week 2. No way. Especially when these injuries are largely coming from the same position groups

it's just getting ridiculous at this point - and in a year where we literally dont have the cap space to deal with many more injuries

id be pissed off if we're forced to add void years to a contract not because we're trying to trade for someone/sign someone to make a difference but simply because all our injuries are pushing us over the cap...

happened to the 49ers last year - and it's not just 1 position group it's across all different positions in all different kinds of ways

most of them are coming from being rolled-up-on (which is poor luck) or non-contact tears (which are also poor luck)

the WR corps has been the only one where you could argue the management has been poor... with niggly injuries and stuff like that

you could also argue that they potentially rushed ronnie stanley back to quickly

but not sure what you can put on the coaching staff or conditioning for any of the other injuries...

You're going to start seeing injured guys chill on the 53 for a little while going forward. If they're in the 3-4 week range, might as well just keep them around unless you absolutely need the roster spot. Obviously the long-term guys will still go there but not like we really need the roster spots with the PS flexibility.

If all the injuries are consistently happening to the same joints then at some point it's fair to question whether the conditioning program is properly developing the muscles required to support those joints.

I don't think that's what's happening here though; we've been one of the least injury-affected teams for a while now, and Saunders didn't suddenly forget how to manage the players. I'm putting it down to normal injuries with an extra helping of bad luck.

and not many players we'll be protecting on the 53 because we're already running out of quality players at some positions...

it's week 2 and we're already nearly at a point where we're going to be having PS level players active on gamedays

Kinda why I like the veteran idea as of now. Cycle these guys on and off the roster. They know how to get ready for gameday at the very least.
