I'd be stoked if we pulled that off, would help this year and be an embarrassment of riches next year at RB. I don't think they'd go for it though, there's nothing really pushing them in that direction so they're probably happy to sit tight and see what they've got in Swift.

Maaayyyybe if we sweetened the pot to a 3rd and Ty'Son and they love Ty'Son and hate Swift for some reason but at that point it feels like we're overinvesting at RB.
not a chance would I offer a 3rd round pick, let alone add Ty'Son to the mix.

I feel you. I don't think many if us would be super thrilled with a 3rd round running back in next year's draft. We just have so many 4ths though. It would be fleecing them, but EDC has done crazy things.
he probably does have dreams about different trade scenarios.

I believe if Averett continues to play at a high level, as much as I like Peters, I could see us cutting him to sign Averett long term. If we cut Peters we could save 10m against the cap. Of course we really do have to start saving cap on defense and redirect that more towards the offense. Wouldn't be surprised if neither Averett gets extended or Peters following 2022 and we just draft a bunch of CB's to start getting younger.

Thoughts?

Filmstudy thinks it could have cost the Ravens about 10m in cap space just with all the injuries we have had. He also believes the elevation is Bynes from a team that is as cash strapped as we are should put Queen on notice. Believes his days could be numbered.

It is also very interesting that we are keeping 51 players on the active roster and elevating two from the practice squad due to it costing less.

i dont see us going that small in terms of contracts on defence - if we go that route then we'll literally only have humphrey, clark and bowser on 2nd contracts on defence which feels like too much - there's only really 3 more guys that we're likely to try and pay significant money to on offence - Lamar, Bozeman and Hollywood (but hollywood might not need to be paid for 2 more offseasons)

on defence we've got no one slated to get paid new money soon outside of averett and elliott

and i doubt we'll want to go into the draft having to fully commit to a complete defensive rebuild front to back - we've got young/prime talent on the backend and ageing talent in the trenches - would make sense to keep those sub-30 yr old defensive back group together and rebuild the defensive line than keep patching the defensive line and have to rebuild the secondary especially with how we're continuously ravaged in the secondary every year

i think that's been convenient for now but i imagine it ends soon with boykin likely activated in the next 90 mins or so and bateman probably coming off i/r next week - suddenly the 53's full again

Yeah the crunch is coming. Technically at 49 right now but Boykin, Bateman, Phillips, and probably Ferguson when the Covid stuff clears (hopefully soon for his sake) will put us at that 53 in the next 2-3 weeks.

Still have some flexibility with Stanley potentially going to IR at some point although that's no sure thing.

Seymour (gunner and CB depth) could see the 53 at some point. Bell is really the only other PS guy but would imagine that's a swap at RB should that happen. A T from the PS was looking likely but maybe Phillips occupies the swing T role and they continue the PS activation game until he's ready.

And still have Boyle, Hayes, Westry, and Wolfe all likely to return at some point although none of them are in the next 3 weeks.

Heavy right now at WR, ILB, and S from a numbers perspective.

it's nice to nearly have a full 53 of players we actually want on the 53 - id imagine that when we need those spots we might cut anthony levine again - maybe josh bynes also (depending on wth is going on at ILB)

Yeah it's been an interesting first few weeks not filling it up. We've been able to keep the 48 active guys we want through what's left of the 53 and the PS, so didn't need to burn cap on guys to sit on the sidelines in street clothes. We've done well maneuvering but it's coming soon where some guys are going to be cut pending we stay healthy.

I was looking around the league for trade partners for inexpensive but decent linebackers and I came across a possibility. The Houston Texans have Christian Kirksey on an inexpensive one year deal. His base salary is 1.5 million and if he was interested we could extend him as well as long as the Texans would be interested in a draft pick.

Thoughts?

We need these siie guys to work on getting LJ(Fort) off of IR. ;-)
I think the impact of losing him has been way understated.
