Offensive Coordinators

Earlier in the year I was happy with the improvement in the passing game, but Roman's ability to adjust is just pathetic. Sure we have had our injuries this year, but over and over again the same issues arise. Are we going to give Roman a pass every season. Last year it was Covid and no offseason and this season it's the 50 players on IR, especially the offensive line issues and the loss of our RB's in preseason.

I think we are ready for a change and I'm like to Urban a chance to take over. It wouldn't be a complete offensive change, he was the WR's coach in Cincinnati and it may be time to give him an opportunity at OC. Who are the available coordinators from outside of the organization?

We have every excuse this year not to let Roman go, but I agree it’s time for some change. I can’t help but feel this offense is holding Lamar back from his full potential. A change will allow us to become flexible and adaptable.

i just feel like this would be changing for changing's sake...
i dont even think he's the coordinator right now who we should be asking the most questions of either...

Stop defending Roman. His failure to adjust to beat the Cover 0 for a whole month has been killing us. How many more slow starts do we have to go through? Yes it comes down to player execution, yes Lamar makes dumb throws. Yes, receievers forget to catch.

Yet at the end of the day we are still not adjusting to what the defense is giving us and that's on Roman. Just like Wink is not adjusting on defense.

Yes, Wink isn't adjusting well but I believe the correct move would be to keep Wink and fire the defense backs coach. There have been too many communication issues in the secondary. Maybe it's due to too many injuries on the backend, but our previous DB coach (Minton) took a defensive coordinator position in college. Our current one should be replaced, imo.

Looks to me like Roman is doing just fine to beat Cover 0. I see an open receiver on just about every one of those plays. He can only lead the horse to water... he can't make them throw it to the right read.

I've never been big on the "fire positional coaches and that'll solve your problems" mindset. It's like blaming Juan Castillo for bad Oline play.
Miscommunications in the secondary pretty much can't be a product of coaching, unless you show me a coach who coaches players to have miscommunications. That's literally something that is done on the field by the players.
If I were going to be targeting leadership for secondary miscommunications, that would begin and end with the Safeties, namely Chuck Clark, who wears the green dot on defense and is responsible for getting the calls from Wink and communicating those to his teammates.

I don't think firing Roman is worth discussing because it simply won't happen. It took Harbaugh forever to fire Cameron and even Marty should have never remained as the Ravens OC.

I mean let's be honest, how can you fire Greg? 2019 was the most productive offense in Ravens history with a severe lack of skill players, 2020 was a let down but the team delt with a lot of adversity and towards the end of the season, the offense made massive improvements. This year he's been delt a bad hand. I mean he's limited by poor OL play, and Lamar losing trust in his protection.

The RB loss is massive. Greg Romans schemes rely on outside zone reads with pulling guards and leaving DEs in conflict You need an RB with burst who will beat a LB to the corner and no one on this roster can do that effectively. Freeman, Tyson and Murray struggle with reading their blocks on outside handoffs. Look at Dobbins run vs the Texans or Bengals, dude has insane burst that the run game is so badly missing.

I think Roman does have some vanilla passing concepts, that cannot be ignored, but their injuries have completely ravished this offense.

I’m not sure if Roman is the OC we need but I don’t see any better options. Does Urban have a better scheme? No idea honestly, maybe he does but maybe he doesn’t. I feel like maybe it’s more than just Roman. If Lamar doesn’t trust Roman then Roman has to go though.

Until Lamar starts taking the easy stuff himself I don't want to hear anything about changing Roman.

I haven't paid attention to the Panthers much under Joe Brady, but I did watch him back at LSU. Thoughts of Brady as a Ravens OC?

I definitely want to keep Wink. I honestly think we should leave the staff intact on defense. None of us came into week one thinking “ yea this Defense is going to be legit”. Between the injuries and lack of pass rush we knew it was going to be a rough year. I mean we put our pass rushing hopes in Bowers, Houston , and a rookie. That’s asking a lot

Roman can move on [emoji1308]

I want a change in Roman but not because I think he's doing an awful job. Won't say yesterday, but too much of the run games success seems to rely too heavily on the qb.

Agree on keeping Wink, but I wouldn't mind moving on from D'Anton Lynn, but I wouldn't be surprised if the entire Defense is kept intact outside of some moving on to other coaching positions.

This hurts because it’s so true. I just think the pressure of carrying the team has caught up to him . I still support the change in OC, the offense has gone stagnant and sometimes a shake up will jump start the O.

I agree. The only way to beat 0 coverage is to find the open guy and get the ball to him. Lamar is making bad decisions, and bad throws when he does find the open receiver. It’s in his head right now and I’m sure the coaches are working with him on it. Changing the OC would be an overreaction IMO.

If there’s a change it should come early off season. I don’t think firing Roman now makes much of a difference. As much as I want him gone who would replace him.

that's exactly the point - if we're getting rid of Roman then who are we replacing him with because it's likely not someone already on staff or these supposed issues with the designs wouldn't be here - the playbooks and gameplans are a collaboration albeit Roman's obviously in charge of it all

Not a clue. Honestly I just want to get away from this offense and the “heavy“ packages. I’d love to see Lamar operate in a no huddle, up tempo, heavy pass spread type offense. Closer to what he did in college. We’ve got the speed at TE/WR to really stress the defense.

and if we are looking for some sort of philosophical change then the panthers just let go of a very in demand guy in Joe Brady who I'm sure would love to coordinate for a dynamic talent rather than for the also-ran QBs he's had in carolina his first year and a half
