He has a first round WR and an All-Pro TE. And last year he had two first round WRs. People can complain about lack of depth at the position, which is a fair criticism. But a lot of you all don't want depth. You want studs.
If we brought in an "alpha" WR, we're not going to throw the ball more. We're just going to spread the targets around to more people. That means a hell of a lot less of Duvernay, and a lot less of Bateman for sure.
I don't see any version of this offense as presently constructed that yields solid production from three pass catchers. Hell if you go back like 15 years, you'll rarely find a time where this team had quality output from a third pass catcher.
I think people are being somewhat unrealistic about this. Coming into the offseason, we were good. We traded Hollywood on draft night, which means you don't really have options to backfill. FA is basically over at that point, the first round of the draft is basically over. Sure, we could have used a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a WR, and maybe we should have. But that's not what a lot of people want. They want the AJ Brown.
I'll join the "Ravens ignore WRs" game when we do the same this coming offseason. My bet... we'll add a veteran in FA and probably draft somebody in the first three rounds. At that point, the whining needs to end. The people still whining are more interested in fantasy stats than winning games. Which its pretty close to that already.
And news flash... QB1 is about to have a $45M+ cap hit next year, with no end in sight. The days of thinking the Ravens are going to pay top tier money to WRs, while he's making that money, are about over. They'll pay ONE guy, maybe, and it'll likely be a homegrown guy. It's drafts for here on out at that position.
