How Did You Become a Baltimore Ravens Fan?

I guess I'm a late bloomer compared to most of you guys.

The 2010 playoff game against the Steelers was, unfortunately, the first Ravens I game I got to see. Before that, I wasn't a huge fan of watching sports in general. At that time, I was really into Monster Jam and cartoons (lol, I know). However after the playoff game, I grew a helluva lot more interested in the NFL. I became a Ravens fan because that was literally the only team that nobody I personally knew was a fan of. So yeah...

Better late than never my friend! Good to see you hear Dom!

When I was younger I picked most of my teams based on if I could beat my older brother or cousins in Tecmo Super Bowl, NES Football or Madden Football so I'm talking original Nintendo and/or original Sega lol.

Anyway i could only win with the Bears and the Steelers so they became my default teams in early 90s.

Greg Lloyd was one of my favorite players. Anyway after the Steelers lost to the Cowboys they pretty much started cutting or losing the players in FA, so I became meh with them at that young age lol

Meanwhile I'm playing Madden and this "new team" had a nice logo and a linebacker that got me 200 tackles in Franchise mode. Rookie Ray Lewis.

Looking back 95-97 is pretty much when I chose the teams I stick with still. The Heat and the Ravens, The Hurricanes (football), Tar Heels (basketball)

Absolutely man! I'm really digging the dark background on this forum compared to BoardHost. Nothing against them, but until they get their things running smooth, I'll make this my home. But once they do, I'll be forum hopping between these two out of respect to BoldnPurpnBlk and the people on that forum.

I'll still be bouncing back and forth there as well.

jdynamite- Lloyd and his persona was always one of my favorites until he punked up early in that sb.

Anyways.
Ravens fan because grandparents lived in laurel and I graduated high school in 96.

Didn't have a favorite team before that so that was just the perfect storm.

I grew up in Baltimore as a Colts fan. I had season tickets from 1975 until they left for Indianapolis and it hurt when they left. I continued being a football fan after the Colts left but is was not the same. I became a Ravens fan the day I heard they were coming to Baltimore. I am indebted to the football gods for bringing a team back to Baltimore.

I am from Canada and just loved watching NFL, the physical abilities of the athletes are second to none. Then one day my friend said I should commit to a team because it makes you that much more passionate about the game. So this was back in 2011 and I loved watching Ray Rice. I'm not getting into anything about what went down, I just loved watching that wrecking ball play on the field. And I loved watching Flacco throw the long ball! Anyway I quickly became a die hard Ravens fan! I have done multiple trips to Balty to catch games over the years and even got Steve Smith SR to sign my jersey which is currently framed and hanging in my basement hahahahaha. Go Ravens!

I come from a family that predominantly loves basketball. My grandfather loved basketball and he would sometimes invite me to go out and play with his friends, but I just watched from the sidelines because I didn't know much about it. Both sides of my family loved it, but I didn't even catch on to their interest. I never really paid any attention to sports at all until just this year. My interest in the NFL started after my local TV station aired the Super Bowl game that happened just this year, and it was also the first time that my family got together on the dinner table and watched an NFL game. My dad rooted for the Patriots, and I rooted for the Falcons, just because I wanted to promote some friendly family rivalry. <_< After the Falcons lost, I didn't really know what team to root for - I followed the Falcons around for a bit, but something about that loss seemed to put me off about them. I decided to follow the Ravens on a whim, and as I started satiating my curiosity about the game through YouTube videos and learning more about the history of the Ravens, I just fell into the swing of things. It also helped a mighty bit to cement my love for the team when the Ravens beat the Patriots 28-13 in the 2012 AFC Championships. The aggressive defence resonated with me, and it reminded me of how I used to play my position as a linebacker in high school football in gym class.

To this day, I am still the only Ravens fan that I know of that lives in Calgary.

Basically I've been a Baltimore football fan since 1985 when I saw the 7 games of the Stars in College Park, thanks to some people dumping tickets cheap. Rooted for the Broncos because I though I was moving there with my mother which never happened. Went to the Baltimore Stallions games at Memorial Stadium when the news broke about the original Browns moving here and didn't like the name Baltimore Browns, rooted for the CFL team until after they won the Grey Cup. Decided to stay on the bandwagon with the Ravens after I heard due to an out of court settlement with Cleveland, Modell was forced to leave the name colors and history behind. Liked being a hybrid expansion team, where we had the old teams players and new name and records. Went to the first game, later joined a now defect Ravens Roost/Nest in Bowie, although I drove all the way from Rockville, MD to the meetings.

I'm probably the only person in Montgomery County that has Ravens affinity plates on my car. Its a Silver Toyota Corolla. If you want my space when I leave a crowded parking lot, just sing the Ravens fight song. So far nobody has accepted the challenge.

Nightman is wrong. Balt fans never wanted the Browns name. How the hell could we do that. The court settlement was just a formality.

I remember the press conference, Governor Glendenning said "in a few years fans will be rooting here for Maryland's Newest Team, the Baltimore Browns!" at the stadium site. Modell originally wanted to call them that. I saw in stores Browns clothing without the name Baltimore on it.

That was right when we first got the team but fans right away said they didn't want the name or colors.

This has little to do with the topic but, I absolutely enjoy visiting my son where he lives downtown. He resides one block east from the Eutaw Street entrance to the stadiums and it's awesome to ride south on 95 and then MLK Blvd seeing The Bank all lit up in purple at night.

It's an embarrassing confession but ... I used to like the Steelers and Ravens equally. Even worse, I still have some (a little) residual affection for the Steelers.

I liked the sport first and used to watch the ch4 games in Scotland. It was about 04 or 05 when Brady and Manning seemed to be on every week, destroying some poor team. Boring. I discovered that when teams had a great defence and poor offence the games were closer and more exciting and the opposition always had a punchers chance despite the defensive dominance, cause the offences only scored 14 or so. So I liked the Ravens and Steelers -at that time and for several more years. When they played each other I was genuinely neutral.

As I learned more about the sport and discovered they were rivals I got more uncomfortable about it. I told myself I'd have to pick one but I couldn't choose between my teams.

Then I saw The Wire, loved it and read David Simon's books and that was it. Baltimore had to be my team. As soon as I made the decision, that was it. Wanting them to beat the Steelers, worrying about the roster in the offseason all fed in to caring about the team more and more until they displaced my favourite football (played with feet) team and became my team.

Grew up in Westminster where the Colts held preseason practice...they would frequent a local bar called "the pit" and were no strangers around that side of town...my father was active in the community and we hosted a few of the colts for dinner back in the 60's...different times my friends...

I've never really watched or been into any sports until I decided to try watching football around 2011, just watching a few games and looking around. Then I watched the Ravens vs Jets game, I think it was on a thursday? and I instantly was like, This is my team now. Didn't even know our standing that year, or how good we were or what, but I loved the colors, the name, and everything else that came along.

Edit: Looks like it was a sunday night game. couldn't remember what it was but I just remember having to work the next day hahaha

This is really interesting, my first regular NFL game that I'll see in a stadium is also against the Jets ... and in my case it will be a TNF game.
For me it was mainly a book that made me becoming a Ravens fan. But I also like the colors and I admire the intelligence of the ravens.

Hi I am new, I am a fan from Australia.
Became a Ravens fan halfway through last season after loosely following NFL without a team for around 4 years. I decided on the Ravens because I have an irrational hatred of the Browns and I know the Ravens share my view on this. Also I fell in love with the way they grinded out wins last season.

Other teams I hate include the Steelers, Patriots and Eagles!

I was in Hawaii when they won the super bowl in 2013. I remember watching it at a pool bar thing. I was going for the Ravens (because i liked the colours more than the other team) but with no emotional attachment that I would have now, didn't even know any rules back then.
