Coaching Carousel 2026

Darnold sucks, it will show in the end. If there was a way to bet against Seattle going I’d bet my life savings on it
The 49ers made it there with Jimmy Garoppolo, and the Eagles won with Nick Folk. Going further back the Bears did it with Rex Grossman. Crazy stuff happens sometimes.

Do we have interest in some of the other coaches who are rumors to be on the hostess? Tomlin, the Bills HC?

edit - - - hotseat, lol. The above question might belong on the crimebeat thread. haha

With Black Monday around the corner only a couple of weeks away, it’s time to start this thread for 2026.

Vacancies already for:
Giants
Titans

Situations to monitor (some more likely than others):
Ravens
Bengals
Browns
Jets (again)
Dolphins
Raiders (again, again)
Cardinals
Falcons

Other situations to keep an eye on:
Bills (if they unexpectedly crash out)
Steelers

After all the big names in last year's cycle, this year's group of potential candidates is a lot less immediately inspiring.
Here's some of the names to keep an eye on:

Offensive Guys:
Kliff Kingsbury
Joe Brady
Klint Kubiak
Brian Daboll
Klayton Adams (probably a bit early for him)
Mike LaFleur

Defensive Guys:
Robert Saleh
Jesse Minter
Brian Flores
Jeff Hafley
Marcus Freeman (HC Notre Dame)
Chris Shula

EDITED LIST OF CURRENT VACANCIES (AND CONFIRMED HIRES):

Tennessee Titans -
New York Giants -
I'd add Cowboys to the middle list, and Buccaneers to the bottom list. I have no idea why the Bucs think Bowles is a good HC. He's played in by far the weakest division in football for his entire tenure, and if he loses on Sunday, he'll have exactly a .500 record with one playoff win in four years in Tampa.

NFC West got Shanahan, McVay, and MacDonald.

Crazy division.

the oldest coach of the 3 is only 46 too...

macdonald will have to entrench himself but the early signs are good
shanahan and mcvay will be head coaches for their teams for as long as they want to keep coaching

I actually think that is McVay.
At first i thought so but maaaaan. Purdy been out 8 games, brandon aiuyk hasnt played, kittle been out like 8 games.. warner and bosa only played a few games and they are still 12-4.. thats mind blowing.. if stafford is out rams will lose every game

Kyle gets so much out of his teams man....just maximizes everything on offense

New report says Browns have done preliminary research on new Head Coaches, and so have the Raiders.

Who’s gonna be the next young offensive guru for me to SIIE?

Klint Kubiak?

Grant Udinski is high risk, high reward offensive mind that could get some HC looks. Last year he was part of the Vikings' offensive staff that had Sam Darnold looking like an MVP, and HC O'Connell said he has an unbelievable understanding of football. Now as the Jaguars' OC he helped Lawrence to finally look like a first overall type of QB. Still young and inexperienced, but could be a go to guy for developing QBs and making a QB friendly offense.

Also, seems like klint is pretty good with half time adjustments but im not sure lol. Been betting with them alot this year and 2nd half is usually when they start putting up points and im not calling them ass anymore lol. Run game ass though.. read up on a coach from cardinals and now dallas named klay adams whose really good with oline and blocking schemes.. him and klint seem like a perfect combo

adams isn't going to go anywhere just to not call plays
that would just be doing what he's doing in dallas

regardless of whoever you bring in or even if harbs isn't let go, looking at the OC and OL position coach are a must

I wonder if Stefanski and Schwartz's lack of W-L success is just the Brownies' curse? I would've loved to have Schwartz over Orr any day. It sounds like Schwartz would be in the run for HC w/ the Browns. Stefanski probably gets a OC job if he gets fired.

But on Schwartz, there's an article in the Plain Dealer that had this to say about him:
“He (Schwartz) talked about how he had gotten to a point with the Lions where he took over after an 0-16 season and they had turned things around so much that when they went 7-9 in 2013, 7-9 was fireable,” Bastock shared on the podcast.

The Bill Belichick parallel looms large here — another defensive-minded coach who found greater success in his second opportunity. Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot, who covered Belichick in Cleveland, sees potential for a similar trajectory with Schwartz.

“I’ve been on record for quite a while is saying that I think he would make an excellent head coach,” Cabot said. “I think a lot of times you’re better off in your second stint than you were in your first because you’ve learned so many things the first time around, just about everything.”

I'd imagine with how long he's been around, he has an idea for an OC too, and I'd be a lot happier with him as a DC guy overseeing that aspect as a HC than maybe some of the younger coaches being mentioned for our HC in the event JH actually does get shown the door.

He deserves a lot of credit. There are a couple things I'd say though:
1. I think people are realizing there's not that much of a talent gap between Purdy and Jones. Part of the reason you bring in Jones is for this reason. And we've pretty much always known that Shanahan's offense is largely QB-friendly.
2. Something people have been saying since the preseason, but they have an extremely friendly schedule this year. NFC South, AFC South (played the Colts with Rivers, not Jones) and Giants/Browns. You can lose all four to LAR and SEA and still win 9-10 games with that schedule easily.

They're a good football team and a contender. But keep in mind that, today, they're 9-1 against teams .500 or worse (only loss to Tampa), and 3-3 against teams +.500

Gruden had one great run with the Buccs over twenty years ago, and never again found that type of success. He utterly failed when he went back to the Raiders.

And he'll probably want a lot of control just like he had with the Raiders

I believe he was making the draft decision and ruined Mayocks name as a GM. No way he shouldn't have gotten another opportunity and doubt with the scouting I've seen from him he was making those personnel decisions.

Besides that no to Gruden anyway.

I'd probably prefer an offensive mind, but no qualms going defense as long as the person brings a scheme or something with them.
