2026 Offseason Thread

Mostly because they ball against a bunch of other guys you'll never see or hear from again. It's the practice reps that matter the most because that's when the guys that are making it are getting reps against stars and not a bunch of other guys that are going to be out of the league soon. It's not fool proof of course, and there are certainly things you can take away from PS games, but they definitely matter much less than they used to.

Most of the time, if you get a rotational guy at the back end of the roster out of a UDFA class, you're doing well. If you get a low level starter, you're doing great. If you get anything more than that, count yourself lucky.

if you're making a roster on the back of PS games it's got to be a ridiculous set of performances... e.g. michael pierce, keyon martin (last year)

I'm almost sure it'll change again because well, it's an open competition...

But Pinter seems to have taken the lead at C and they want to keep running him out there with the other presumed starters as of now. Seems like Bullock has fallen back and they may be giving him more G looks for now. We'll see how it shakes out but seems they've made the shift to Ledford's guys getting the run instead of the holdover.

was just coming here to say that based on the stuff i can see:

Initial Depth Chart at OTAs seems to be:
1s: Stanley - Simpson - Pinter - Jones - RR
2s: Vinson - Vorhees - Gwyn - Vega - Lichtenhan

obviously Vega is going to be RG1
not even clear that bullock's even playing C in practice (hard to work out if he's repping at C or G)
Pounds looks like he's LT3 right now after 2 days

Did Ledford coach Pinter?

Are they already in pads?

No. Just figuring out the guy that fits the best based on athletic ability and communication (the whole OTA having a large impact thing is overblown) and feel he's their best option right now, so want to keep him working with the guys he's most likely going to be working with as of now.

Because it’s voluntary.

You go to your job for voluntary shit?

….dont you lie.
1. I don’t get paid tens of millions a year to play sports

2. I’m self employed so technically everything I do besides pay taxes is voluntary and When I have new things to learn or relationships to build up, yes I go, because even though work sucks I want success and the extra work matters in finding that end result.

Other years I wouldn’t care but we have an all new coaching staff for fucks sake. We gotta stop excusing this, if he is really trying to set the standard, be a team leader, and compete for championships, then he needs to be there, voluntary or not. He’s got 2 rookie WRs and 2 rookie TEs and a rookie RB, who probably would’ve really liked to see their franchise qb in there setting the tone for everyone, creating chemistry early, with the team as a whole.

I too would obviously rather have him there vs. not having him there, but the attendance at these things is so overblown for veterans. He literally might throw 10-15 meaningful balls all practice. This is where the young guys get the reps. It's about them right now.

Fine with that concept.
I'm not an optics person. If I were, I'd ask the question... are my peers, who both individually and definitely as a team, perform better than me, doing things that I'm not doing?
Mahomes shows up to voluntary OTAs. So does Josh Allen. They both have super high attendance in all phases of the voluntary OTA program. Lamar routinely misses most of the voluntary offseason program. Not sure it's really an issue this year, because he's expected back very soon. Just suggesting that, historically, it hasn't helped up well to the optics side of things.

Something isn't everything, and something isn't nothing.

Young qbs don’t need starter reps, Diego pavia can fuck off fr.

The young guys getting reps with their starting qb however, is a different story. And just for cultural purposes, the franchise qb being there matters.

Tom Brady didn’t start skipping OTAs until he was 18 years and 6 super bowls deep. Peyton manning basically never skipped them his whole career. Pat Mahomes doesn’t skip them.

The dudes with real championship DNA do not skip voluntary OTAs, they don’t even consider it voluntary, they consider it necessary to set the standard for the team that they lead. It’s not even about optics, it’s about being with your team as many times as the league allows, being a master instead of a journeyman, making it all second nature.

It’s a few days out of the entire year.

Posted my response before reading this, and made the same point. It’s not even optics, it’s the fact that qbs who have that championship mentality show up, and it’s damning to Lamar’s character that he isn’t even showing up the year that we have an all new coaching staff and 5 newly drafted weapons he’s gonna be working with.
