Around the NFL: News and Rumors

The NFL has DEFENDED the Clay Matthews penalty and has said that play and the similar hit by Vikings LB Eric Kendricks will be USED in a teaching tape that reiterates the "scoop and pull" technique is a foul. The Official in the game, Tony Corrente came out and said that the rule of no body weight on a player wasn't the issue. It was the fact that Clay and I quote, "picked the quarterback up and drove him into the ground". Um...... Matthews did no such thing.

Matthews has come out and said penalties are out of control, Mike McCarthy said Matthews was doing what he was coached to do and didn't know why the flag was thrown. Zimmer came out and said the reason scoring is so high is because of the things they are calling. "It's an offensive league".

Former Ref Terry McAulay tweeted this...

I’ll just say this now: if the two hits on the QB in #MINvsGB are indeed fouls for roughing the passer, I am glad that I am no longer on the field and have to make those calls.

Slow but steady, they are making the game unwatchable.

The NFL said they wanted more scoring and offense and part of that was penalties. The NFL apparently told refs to call more.

I don’t get it. If the NFL answers to the owners, and the teams are confused why these rules are like this, then who is deciding these rules? Seems like this could be a reason to can Goodell to me because too many inconsistencies in people’s stories.

AB's agent, the Super Agent Drew Rosenhaus has attempted to clarify everything that has happened with AB and that it is of no concern... ok however you want to spin it for PR Drew.

"The tweet yesterday was not in reference to anything other than Antonio responding to a person he knows. It was not directed towards a trade, or wanting to be trading. It was a personal response to a former Steelers employee who insulted him. Any idea he was asking for a trade is not accurate. Secondly, yesterday he had a personal matter. I talked to the team about it. His issue was unrelated to the tweet or his relationship with the team. Third, anything you see between AB and the coaches, AB has an incredible drive to win. He just wants to win. That's all that that is. That's not anything more than him encouraging his coaches and teammates to win. And that's what his entire focus is on. Any notion, any speculation otherwise, can be put to bed. This is a non-story that has been blown out of proportion. We can end this right here and now."

Hell, if QBs aren’t gonna be getting hit anymore I think I’ll try out for the NFL. I’m a more accurate thrower than some of these guys in the league.

They're slowly falling apart and I LOVE IT
Guaranteed that they'll get it together against us on some bullshit. This is bringing more credence to the Tomlin critics who say that this team lacks discipline under him. I understand Harbaugh has it flaws and I've been critical of him (and still am), but at least we don't have to deal with this level of drama on a regular basis (yes I'm fully aware of the Pollard stuff). However, I'm of the mindset that Big Ben, Bell, and AB love drama.

Wait a minute, I thought it was the four Bs. Ben, Bell, Brown, and Boswell. Has Boswell fallen off the pedestal?

It's always been about the 3 Bs. Contradictory to Steelers fans, Boswell was never part of that pedestal.
Yep, I totally agree and besides the point, the killer Dolphins Killer Bs were the real Bs and they never had the kind of drama that Brown, Ben and Bell have.

Jon Gruden is just making this too easy. After doing everything to defend the Mack trade he now comes out with this quote of beauty...

“It’s hard to find a great one. It’s hard to find a good one. It’s hard to find one,” Gruden said.

If only the Raiders had smarts and brains to draft a pass rusher in the first round back in 2014 then you may not have this problem Gruden.

Bruce Arians said Patrick Mahomes is one of the four smartest players he’s ever seen on the board, up there with Peyton and Luck. “Who’s the fourth guy?” I asked. “Don’t want to say,” he said. “That way, every other guy I have coached will think that I’m talking about him.”
