this makes tonnes of sense - i imagine there's not much guaranteed money involved but some decent incentives - he'll be on the bubble through camp but there's a clear pathway for him to win a spot and have significant snaps in the defence

i dont think this takes snaps away from the young guys either because pernell likely is more of a replacement for ZDS (who himself was a replacement for mcphee) rushing from over the nose

Last time we saw McPhee was on a defense led by Pees so it should be interesting to see how Wink uses him. ZDS wishes he had a season as good as McPhee's last season here.

McPhee was ALWAYS better than Z.smith. It's just the injury concern and it's always been his issue.

If McPhee is healthy our defense just got a fuckton better, pass rush was a weak point even if one of tim or tyus broke out, if one of those 2 plus ferguson played well then our pass rush would be slightly above average and would likely still need blitz support.

ill admit to not having seen any of pernell mcphee's games over the last 2 years - would be interested to see the tape to see if he's still got the explosiveness and violence that made him so effective for us or whether the injuries have sapped that from his body...

will also be interested in the money when it gets reported

@JoeyFlex5 fills Smith's role as a the rusher we move around, too. Happy he's back. We love to keep this AD type player and usually has a good return.

Pernell had ( I think) six snaps vs Cardinals week one. Every one was productive along these lines. He gets pressure folks...and not just against the cardinals ( both here are against LT)

it's worth pointing out that za'darius was a bit of a laughing stock in the ravens community until last year where he still was hardly great. he was the number 27 rusher via PFF. Mcphee has graded in the top 10 3 times in his career.
