So am I. What is it 97 days till opening day. Long time sheesh.

Just to let you know tho I feel I'm well rounded too. Got Yahoo news when I first open up the computer which is littered with articles mainly from the left and I just skim thru and read whats interesting to me at the time sometimes with a chuckle. When I'm in the truck tho I do like the Patriot channel on Sirius but I don't listen to Breitbart lol. That guys voice grates on me. Where I really feel like I'm well rounded tho is really not thru the news but the people I deal with on a daily basis. I hear all sides of it believe me.

Basically I'm a constitutional conservative that flat out wants the power in the people not the government. Individualism/pulling your own weight is what the USA should be to me. Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness.
To me a large part of the 'pursuit of happiness' is following my Ravens with a passion unknown to mankind!

I love how this thread constantly devolves into criticizing each other for simply having a different opinion. I’m not calling out a particular side here either... Everyone here is fucking guilty of it. Shit like this is why I vote split ticket. The moment people start calling each other extreme liberal or conservative, or the moment people start deeming the other party as evil, you get a polarized climate. This thread continues to prove my point every time I visit, and as a guy who works for the government, I can assure you it’s not nearly as bad as you all think it is.

Word to the wise as someone who’s actually worked in the shitshow and will be working there again real soon: get the fuck over it. The system is already designed for gridlock to prevent the government from getting too powerful. When unhealthy debate, which has been what’s occurring both here and in the real world, is occurring then nothing gets done.

And again, as someone who has worked in the shitshow(cause that’s what it is), I can respectfully say that none of you know what you’re talking about. The media? Most of them are morons. There’s only about four news sources nowadays that are actually worth reading from because they have no semblance of bias(AP, Reuters, the Print copy of Politico). The rest have agendas and that’s what’s really dividing people. Most of these guys down here don’t hate each other(barring some exceptions) but here y’all are arguing over something that won’t even come close to making it to the House or Senate floors.

It’s a pointless debate btw. The electoral college is never going to go away. So yeah. Get the fuck over it. Criticize it all you want, it’s flawed, but nothing is going to change. That would require a constitutional amendment and states like Wyoming, North Dakota, etc, would never go for it.

Get over Trump. The country has much bigger problems at hand right now(that the media, who’s only after ratings and a narrative, isn’t fucking paying attention to that I refuse to go over with any of you) and he’ll be gone in a year anyway and the next president can undo fucking everything he’s done.

Just because I disagree with practically all of you on something doesn’t mean I hate you(besides @52520Andrew, I hope you rot in hell). I think society needs to relearn that lesson.
Just to even things out I love you @52520Andrew! laugh out loud

I don't think issues are half as complicated as either party makes something seem. The obsession we have with the 2 party system still baffles a very young version of myself.

Maybe when I am much older I will understand and get accustomed to just 2 ideologies that use every trick in the book to demonize each other.

Whether you want gun control or not, it does sadden me a little to see no one mention another mass shooting in VA Beach, about an hour from me.

I can only speak for myself, but to me, I start to get a little numb seeing mass shootings happen so frequently. I shouldn't be saying, "Well unfortunately, another will happen soon." I hope your family, friends, and loved ones were safe. Although I didn't know anyone personally, I can relate to shootings being an hour away with the Pulse night club shooting.

I think a lot of it is politics. I certainly don't think Republicans would be against it if they benefited from it. But then the Democrats would. I can see both sides in regards to the electoral college debate. In regards to DC, something needs to be done. They can vote for the presidency yes but they have absolutely no representation in congress. Something needs to be done to address that and if people can't agree on that, I really have to question whether or not they value democracy. I think statehood would be a big deal for Puerto Rico as well although that is their decision, don't remember if that is something they wanted there or not.

I ain't even trying to take a side here, this was my first post. My whole point is that both parties are going to do what is best for them. That and DC needs something to be done to give them representation in congress. As long as that isn't up for debate then I am good, not trying to argue that the Dems are playing fair either.

Agree though that the media in the U.S. is trash. When someone like Shapiro can flourish here and gets demolished by a conservative abroad, it is telling.

Virginia Beach is sad but I am not touching that subject with a 10 foot pole. If you think that last argument was bad, you should look for some of the gun control ones.

Trump is pretty much a lock to win it given the morons the democrats are rolling out as candidates. The only thing that can stop him is a recession. And even then, I think it will be close. And I don't say that gleefully, I say it with remorse. It is not healthy for our country when the president runs practically unopposed. Kind of like Romney. We wouldn't have had to suffer through another four years of Obama if the Grand Old Poobahs ran a real candidate.

Didn’t say anything because it’s futile posting about it on this forum anymore - I’ll never understand the tolerance for it in the US

While I disagree with many things that are happening in the USA right now I understand them intellectually and see similar things in the UK and around the world but understanding and empathising with the anti gun control thing is and always will be alien to me and many outside the US

We've made it 173 pages, I'm pretty sure if we got into a gun control debate this thread would be closed and deleted with no more political discussion allowed. I've always found gun control talk odd just because of the fact that potential shootings were prevented from people who were armed, IE the resource officer who stopped a teen at a high school in MD. It sucks that armed citizens who prevented potential mass shootings doesn't get talked about more often but that does go against the agenda of taking away guns.

I didn't think the issue was "taking guns away".

I agree and disagree with varying parts here to varying extents. The electoral college is almost certain to stick around (which is probably bad news for the rural voters in the long run but I digress) but that doesn't mean discussions aren't worth having. An off-hand reference to it that I made sparked two pages of discussion, which does show people have an interest in it in one way or another.

Out of interest though, why do you think Trump will be gone come next year? I'm with @52520Andrew in thinking it'll be close and could go either way. And judging by the actions of the Congressional Republicans they seem to think he's got another four years in him too.

Saying that though, free trade is one of the areas where I'll say both sides are as bad as each other (it was an area where I really liked the Republicans and then they had to go all protectionist). If the trade war's still going by the time of a new president I can still see that being a major headwind for world growth that won't be undone by Trump's successor. I can also talk about a few pretty questionable things this administration's doing at an administrative/diplomatic level on the international stage that aren't getting covered by the media (for a whole lot of reasons, none of which include cover-ups or anything) that may have a lasting impact on people's lives and the way the US is viewed by allied governments. For the most part though, I agree. A lot of the hand-wringing about Trump is about as overhyped as the hand-wringing about Obama was. And I will give Trump credit for telling the Iran hawks in his administration to cool their jets. An Iraq 2: Electric Boogaloo would go well beyond the usual "change in furniture layout at the White House" thing given how much impact the last one is still having on the world even after all this time.

Negotiator Trump has won again. Trump has agreed to suspend the Tariffs on Mexico, that were scheduled to be implemented on Monday after the US & Mexico reach agreement that would stop Trump from imposing said Tariffs.

"I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico," Trump tweeted Friday night, saying the "Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended."

He said Mexico has agreed to work to "stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border" and said those steps would "greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States."

Mexico has also agreed to take "unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration," including the deployment of the Mexican National Guard throughout the country, especially on its southern border with Guatemala. And the U.S. said Mexico is also taking "decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks."
