He reminds me of Boldin. Just a tough, compact dude with a good story. So if the top three are gone as well as Mims, who would you take at 28 WR wise?

but shenault on tape isnt really a refined receiver at all - he doesnt separate, doesnt show elite explosion, doesnt have elite receiving traits - what he does have is a great overall athletic profile and proven success with the ball in his hands but so much of his production in college came from manufactured touches and that would be his role in the NFL early which is why he's still draftable day 2 but as a receiver and potential prolific weapon he's too raw for me to think about early in the draft - i hardly even think about him as a WR at this point right now - he's in that group of maybe 3/4 players in this class who i would define as offensive weapons (or ATH) and i like all 3 of the top guys at that position in the 3rd round: Laviska Shenault Jr, Lynn Bowden Jr and Antonio Gibson - to me right now all those guys are weapons rather than position specific players which adds some value but also changes the way you think about their role on the team

not someone i'd like in the 2nd round - but id be very happy with any of the 3 of them in the 3rd

at 28, excluding the top 4, I've got Jefferson as the 22nd best player in the draft and Jalen Reagor as the 25th best player in the draft - there's no guarantee either of those guys are there either - i could definitely see the vikings falling in love with reagor for sure and the saints would be a great place for a guy like jefferson albeit with sanders being signed that maybe limits that opportunity but they could always grab another weapon (might be the most complete roster top to bottom in the NFC right now along with the 49ers)

so to answer that question id have to say reagor or jefferson but not sure either would be top of the board when we're picking at 28 even if all 4 other receivers have gone before that pick

suh is the kind of potential signing that doesnt really make sense to me - likely would have been a 1 year deal with the entire burden of the salary on this year's cap which makes it harder to finesse the cap space to make him fit under the cap

that and we've just acquired loads of DL talent at a high cost - would be a ridiculous amount of money to put onto 1 DL - we'd be paying 4 separate vets on the DL at basically market price plus a franchise tag on the edge - that's crazy investment lol

i wonder maybe if we signed suh whether the brockers deal (which still hasnt been officially announced) would be pulled out of or something idk - just spit-balling

well i called this lol

my guess is he's just recovering but it probably makes you nervous if your team doctors arent the ones doing the medical - we shall see if this deal gets finalised at any point - it is still just in principle and i guess its still pending a medical or something...

zrebiec still thinks it will be confirmed at some point so this wont likely be a ryan grant type situation

You’re always extremely insightful. Thank you!!

Little late on the Jimmy re-signing but I expected him to come back. I just didn’t think he would have the market he expected he would and it’s because of his injuries. It’s possible this whole Coronavirus thing helped a bit too because teams couldn’t evaluate him themselves and didn’t want to give him money even if not guaranteed but—more importantly—didn’t want to sign him and count on him and find out later he doesn’t check out and miss out on others as a result. His age and injuries combined to hurt him here and I’m glad to have him back as a #4 because I expect he will see a lot of action. 4WR sets are more and more common and Humphrey can cover TE. It’s a good move.

Has anyone noticed that we’re targeting defense in FA and mostly avoiding offense? I think this may be our “blueprint” if not already mentioned—sign defense and draft offense.

I’d love to get Griffen here if we could swing that. If Brockers doesn’t come here then I would definitely like to sign Griffen with that money. If Brockers still comes here I would like Griffen. He’s not what he was but he’d be an upgrade here for sure and give us legit chances. He could also spare a comp as well? Anyone know if he would count towards comps? Can’t recall if he was a true FA, an option free agent, or a released?

No sense in even worrying about comps at this point. They raised the minimum threshold to around $2.5M and none of Bynes, Onwuasor, or Roberts are getting that much. If they do, good for them and good for us, but I think we realize that's not happening.

Yea that was a mistake on my part. I see some mocks with him in the 1st, but after what @rossihunter2 wrote up, I can see why he isn’t 1st round talent

oh tbf i absolutely understand why a team might like him as a 1st round talent - i just dont agree with them - he definitely fits as a prospect on a team that already has a great corps of weapons as a playmaking cherry on top who has a super high ceiling as a WR but whose early impact will be more as a gadget type player who is schemed into space or manufactured touches to get YAC - Shenault's best trait is what he does after the catch and especially through contact

i also worry about his injury history

he'd also be a great fit with a team like the 49ers as a more dynamic kind of gadget back than taysom hill (he's even taken wildcat snaps although i dont think he threw a pass at colorado - if you want a fun time with a WR prospect who played almost all his 2019 snaps at qb then watch lynn bowden tape - it's like watching Navy but with an insane athlete at QB who's also probably the best WR on that roster)

early on in the process i was absolutely all the way down on shenault but have come around a little - i think the initial backlash i had was because i just didnt see him as high as the media had him but ive come around on understanding why they like him and i absolutely wouldnt mind him on the ravens as a 3rd round pick or later but it would be with the understanding that he's not going to be an outright receiver in this offence in the way that any of the other oft-regarded top guys are

i saw earlier that peanut might be on the cusp but even then it'd be a 7th and 7th rounders are basically pointless (especially 1. if you're drafting at the end of the round and 2. if you're good in UDFA)

Yeah he is just a flashy prospect because he’s got an exciting highlight reel. I firmly believe he would be better off just converting to rb, he would be light years better than ty Montgomery as a wr-rb convert. Hes a deadly runner with the ball in his hands but honestly shows no upside as a receiver, doesn’t have the suddenness or the twitch in the feet that you look for to become a route runner, he’s very far away from refinement in his route tree and is basically just out there running full steam at all times, has made some tough catches but nothing special there either, the most impressive catches were mostly breadbasket catches over the shoulder in which he failed to separate but tracked and brought in anyway

Murray reminds me of kenny young.

Clueless

I hated the kenny young pick. ( thankfully you can see that as the forum was up and running in 2017 draft)
Kenny Young was drafted in 2018 draft and the biggest person against that pick was Lost in Translation. Although he did say he played much better than expected in 2018, but was awful in 2019. I'm glad he is gone and used with a 5th for Marcus Peters.

I challenge that Lost was more against that pick than me.
