I would bring in Jabaal Sheard or Olivier Vernon (both if we trade Judon), they are both rock solid edge setters and Vernon is a top pass rusher when healthy.
Historically our best defenses have relied on elite edge setting, space eating in the middle and elite linebackers who could read and maintain gap control. Before the Brockers situation we had the space eaters and even some versatility for sub packages, our edge setting is still trash and we are yet to find our stud linebacker.

Since the FA market is pretty barren at this point I wouldn't mind trading down in the draft, stockpiling players for depth, eyeing any cap casualties later in FA and rolling over this cap space into FA next year. It would allow us to front load Stanley and Humphreys contracts, which will probably be top 5 money for their respective positions.

I know a lot of you don't like the pessimism from Sami, because he's extremely hard to please, but don't you think he's right on this one? I'm talking losing Brockers. To me that seems like a huge blunder. And that's why I posted a page ago, my default reaction is EDC has something in store in FA, because if he doesn't, I really think this was a big big mistake. Look at the tune of everyone now. They're being pretty pragmatic and saying maybe we should move back on the draft when yesterday we were talking about moving up. I know it's one piece, but now we have a huge hole at a position we didn't have last year on top of the ones we already had.

Oh without a doubt. EDC isn’t incompetent though. He has a plan, like almost landing Suh. I’d LIKE to imagine we’re focusing on Everson or Clowney right now. Time will tell.

He is def right. We have way too many holes to be trying to fill in just by the draft alone.

This would be absolutely massive and a move I THINK we would make with a very real chance to win a Super Bowl in a year or two. No doubt EDC is operating wisely with a QB on a rookie contract and I don’t think he’s one to be frugal. Thought Clowney would be too flashy for us, but EDC is aggressive. Man, this would be insane.

Now that we have some cash to spend due to the Brockers no deal, do you think we ought to go after Clowney and address D-line in the draft? I think adding Clowney to the line to replace Brockers will be something I can get excited about. Or even Griffin would be fine along with say Derek Wolfe (depending on how much he has left)....

The only concern I'd have for such a signing is the ability for team doctors to examine him. Wasn't that part of the problem with the Brockers deal?

I don’t think Clowney has any injuries we’d be worried about like Brockers’s ankle. I could be wrong though
