The Random Thought Thread

This is random but if you guys would also like to share it could be lighthearted and fun. I've been following the draft since the first draft following our superbowl win. Since then I have only guessed the first round selection correctly once. Interesting, the one I got right wasn't CJ Mosley who if we have a look back retrospectively was probably pretty obvious and I would wager the majority of people who respond will say they got CJ right. I oddly enough got Marlon Humphrey right. I'm hoping that this year's draft isn't like that one where the selection is someone who's really just not on any of our minds for the most part. I'm really pulling for EDC to make safe picks that we now are gonna be contributors in some way or another year one.

i started in 2014... i had CJ in 2014, no idea in 2015, 2016 i thought it would be laremy tunsil, 2017 i wanted Tim Williams or derek barnett lol, 2018 i had lamar or calvin ridley, 2019 i had marquise brown from the beginning (that's the one i was most confident about the whole way through)

it's obviously a lot harder the later you go but you can normally get a feel for the options who will be available

I really wanted Hollywood last year and was so excited when we got him. Never in a million years did I think he'd fall to us!

i mean it would be up to 9.5m - unless we backload it massively - i would expect it to free up in the realm of 5m or so

that being said there's no indication that this is happening...
I don't think it's happening. There is a risk for both entities here - Stanley and the Ravens by not extending him now. Stanley can potentially make a few million more a year if he waits but will sacrifice more than a few million if he has a serious injury this year. I guess Stanley is banking on staying healthy and that may be the advice of his agent who stands to lose a lot of money too because he takes the same risk as Stanley.

even if he has a major injury his play and consistency mean he's getting paid whatever happens so he might as well wait only difference is maybe some of his base salary gets turned into roster bonuses or something like that

the overall number will be basically the same injury or no injury

That's true but I like to add that we don't know how much the salary cap is going to increase. I'm sure contracts are going to inflate once the numbers are officially out, so it does make sense to wait. I fear that something similar is about happen like it did in the nba a couple of years ago. Everybody got (over)paid no matter how bad these players were e.g. Movgov.
