So, as far as fit goes, I think I read Dobbins had 1600 yards and most of his touchdowns from shotgun formation in 2019, so there is a very obvious fit for the Ravens here.

Watching Dobbins against Michigan State and a few things stood out to me...

1) has real comfort at the mesh point on read-option plays and not being the read - now lamar leaves the ball in there a long time so that might take some getting used to but he's got a lot of experience with it
2) further to that, he's a physical runner when he meets contact although i would say he doesnt break as many tackles as you'd hope inside
3) he's very comfortable being a lead blocker for his QB
4) and even moreso, while he doesnt have an amazing feel for pass pro - he has a real willingness to stick his body in there and move and hold up against much bigger guys - uses his shoulders really well - but sometimes seems a tick too late working out which guy he needs to block - but that will come with more reps - but he has absolutely no problem stepping up and meeting an a-gap blitzer head on and physically matching them
5) absolutely lethal on stretch plays and winning the edge
6) efficient downhill runner

those are just some quick notes

Hes really a perfect fit as a RB for our offense and what we need from our RBs. Can do it all and I think hes better after contact than given credit for. His Wisconsin game is outstanding

watching the wisconsin game and he's showing off some beautiful patience paired with dynamic but smooth cuts to get him through the hole - he's electric in the hole but gets downhill fast - doesn't overly elaborate behind the LoS - reads the blocks and gets downhill

the other thing in the wisconsin game is watching him be dynamic as an option when the play breaks down in the passing game - stays calm, releases into space and then makes a play

not an amazing route runner that id consistently want to split out wide yet but good out of the backfield (and will get better)

His patience really stood out to me in that game. He read his blocks extremely well and almost sets them up and manipulates the line to find a crease. Hes especially good at this in the goal line.

His stiff arm on Chris Orr is just filthy in that game.

He did a really nice job making himself available to the QB, better than some receivers do actually. Hes a better reciever out of the back field than given credit for. Ohio st didnt give him many opportunities to show it outside of a few texas routes and some plays in the flat

he adjusts really well to the ball in the air - so far ive seen him run 1 texas route, lots of routes to the flat and some leaking out of the backfield into the middle of the field

not much variety but something to work with for sure

but in terms of his upside on 3rd down, the thing that stands out to me is his willingness and physicality in pass pro - when you're smaller you have to be more physical - think he will learn a lot from mark ingram about pass pro and 3rd down in general

if im honest, i think this spells the end of gus edwards getting meaningful snaps - JK's style is not dissimilar to Gus's but he's faster and a more patient runner with all those skills on passing downs etc. too

Gus is a crazy physical runner and did himself a lot of favours last offseason by trimming down and getting faster but I think Dobbins might leave Edwards with very few snaps

if justice hill makes the roster, it will be on the back of his special teams play and his ability to get downfield in a hurry

The Waldman breakdown was really good. I'd suggest everyone take a look at it. Some really quality stuff.

Realised when studying him theres a lot of little things that go unnoticed. Kinda like Bell in Pittsburgh and what made him so good. He just has some amazing footwork and vision.

Idk I think Gus still gets his touches. Hes just so damn big and physical and can wear down a defense. They both kinda bring something different. I actually think Hill is in big trouble. Either way, in our offense you cant have too many talented ball carriers. We saw that when Ingram went down

(i should probably clarify that i dont think gus is in danger of missing the roster - just that i could see a loss of carries for sure)

i would think that justice hill would be in trouble but he outlasted some guys as a gunner on special teams last year (although the unit as a whole was bad) and that's where the back end of the roster gets sorted - so while hill is competing as a RB, he's probably more in competition with guys like whoever's potentially WR5, 6 or 7 or CB 5 or 6 or 7 etc.
