At least Clowney wouldn’t square up Henry man on man and whiff on a tackle like Judon. Clowney is a true game wrecker. Judon is just a product of our system.
Same thing was said about ZDS.

I wouldn't view it as a stalemate. I view it as normal activity for a franchise tagged player. More than half of the players who were tagged haven't signed their tender yet, and there's really no reason for them to do so at this point. So this Judon Situation
clearly a stalemate.
what now?
I think his issue to go along with Willie Henry issue is that they lost too much weight. Im not sure if they both figured that being slimmer would keep them healthier but these guys obviously were either ignoring their condition coach advice or got the wrong advice during the offseason. I think Williams and Henry is agood example on why training camp should be longer because some of these guys coming out of college dont really know what they doing when left alone to handle taking care of their body or to stay in shape.
Every DL can play every technique and all of our Edges can drop into coverage (not sure about Ferguson though).
Even if the 2021 draft is deep in Edge players it will be hard to get an impact player at that position given we’ll be selecting at the #32 spot ...i would have said that about this year too tbh come this time last year probably - but you cant tell for sure what the class is actually going to look like next year and whether it'll be worth it
exactly why you need to take bpa regarless of position, except QB of course. No reason to pick an edge player when there are better players available. Doing that would just devalue the pick and undermine what the team is trying to accomplish.Even if the 2021 draft is deep in Edge players it will be hard to get an impact player at that position given we’ll be selecting at the #32 spot ...
I don't know if the reports are true but here's my take on Judon.
I'm all in on keeping him if the Ravens are really intent on doing so. I think he had a really good year that could have been a great year had we been more invested in the DL. McPhee was our best OLB opposite of Judon and there's no way he should have played as many snaps as he did. We had virtually nothing as far as interior pass rushers go even though B.W did make improvements. That was nullified IMO by Michael Pierce massive let down of a season. He had virtually no one who he can run stunts with which was a big missing piece of our defense. Now he has both Campbell and Wolf who both excel at that. It's a job that goes unnoticed but is very valuable in obvious passing situations which is partly why Von gives who credit to Wolfe for his sacks. It makes sense, he's given Wolfe credit for doing the "dirty work" which is the job of the DE in running stunts and in all honesty nearly all obvious passing situations. This also helped Aldon Smith become a huge success in his first two seasons with the 49ers when he had Justin Smith who was doing stunts alongside of him. If this DL can live up to expectations, then I think we can see a 15+ sack season from him. I don't think it's going to be the best DL in the league, but there's surely much more talent there then in recent years.
While Judon wasn't a sack artist, he was among the best in the league in QB hits and hurries. It's very tough to find a SAM LB in general. He's not the best edge rusher but I don't think he's as bad as some make him out to be. Some people dismiss Judon sack production based on the fact that we blitz a lot, but this is just ignoring Judon's body of work since he's been productive as far as sacks and QB hits are concerned since he's joined the team as a rookie. Also, we've asked Judon to drop back and doing so has allowed Wink to be more creative in his blitzes.
I'm not sure if it will happen because the Ravens have four core players(Jackson, Stanley, Humphrey, Andrews) who they will not let walk, but they are loaded with cash in the future and have ton of flexibility with contracts going into the future. They've done an excellent job of managing the cap and we're aligned with a rising cap. There's also no rush to extend Lamar who still has the 5th year option. Rushing to extend a QB is counter productive to the advantage teams like the Ravens have with QBs on a rookie contract in the sense that they can spend on every other position without having to give up 20-30% of their cap towards 1 position like most teams are forced to. Rather then rushing to extend Lamar, let's take advantage of the cap flexibility he provides us in year 3,4, and 5. Due to this, I just don't see the rush in extending him. You cannot get out of paying Lamar his market value by extending him early. The Ravens tried this with Joe Flacco and Flacco turned down every single offer that was significantly lower then what he ended up getting later in 2013. So of these four, only 3 are core players the Ravens have to keep. I think this is partly why you keep a guy like Judon.
super bowlWe officially inked LB Jake Ryan on 1y contract.
You might be onto something here...super bowl
As long as we stop the run and our secondary covers, our defense will be elite. You just can’t compare our defense to anyone else.I really want Mcphee back.
I don’t see any way a defense can ever be truly elite without a game changing pass rusher. I was thinking, I would right now give up our next two first round picks for Khalil Mack. and I value picks like the ravens do. And he isn’t as dominate, but to me it just seems crazy to not sign clowney. you only lose money. ship judon away and sign a one year for the same as the franchise tag.
If we can beat Mahomes that is all I care about. As long as we stop the run and our secondary covers, our defense will be elite. You just can’t compare our defense to anyone else.
we win by manning up across the board and using the entire front as a big fear tactic pre snap and then sending most, or all, or not that much, as a weapon. The ravens are changing the way defense is played as much, if not more, than they are the offense. They’re basically proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the secondary is more important than the pass rush because in the pass rush all you gotta do is win the numbers game.
We lacked good players in a major way last year and had the leagues 2nd, maybe 3rd best defense. We added talent out the ass this year but still don’t have that edge rusher you referred to, however we should be a pretty solid lock for the best defense in the league right now despite that.If we can beat Mahomes that is all I care about.
And I totally see your point but I don't think we are so much changing defenses.. we just have some of the best players at every single position. This will really only work for us. Other teams still need pass rushers cuz they dont have 3 all stars in the secondary. But I see your point in us just winning the numbers game. Totally fair.
I get this wild feeling that Lamar Jackson is the type of player that may actually take a team friendly deal as long as it is fair. He is a Brady fan and understands that Brady took less to keep great teammates (sure Kraft fucked him over) but I believe the Ravens will treat Lamar right but Lamar in turn will treat the Ravens right. He will never pull a Dak Prescott type deal with the Ravens. Again, if he does expect the moon, we must pay him and he won't be wrong but just a feeling.I don't know if the reports are true but here's my take on Judon.

Would be nice to see them shell out big sums in singing bonuses to him, Marlon, Ronnie ... we can be one of the best money making teams when so dominate offensively, its worth it to keep these guys together from a business prospective.I get this wild feeling that Lamar Jackson is the type of player that may actually take a team friendly deal as long as it is fair. I don't see it. He's owed like $8.5M this year, which is roughly what we would absorb. I don't see us absorbing that.Saw a post saying we should trade for Larry Warford. Wow. What do you think it would be a third? Second? that'd be insane...
