The Random Thought Thread

I don't think he's on this board, but in the previous board, he revealed to me that he TOO was a Blazers fan. I'm like, "OMG! OMG! OMG!" Next thing you know, he shows me this Blazers board (http://www.sportstwo.com/forums/portland-trail-blazers.123/).

So every now and then, I post on there but yeah. AMAZING to know that I'm not the only Ravens and Blazers fan on this board!

Was kinda glad when they stopped playing this year tbh lol

I am too. The current NBA is actually getting frustrating to watch for me. Once I saw that obvious goaltend non-call against the Jazz on Lillard, I knew this season wasn't for us.

I'll save you some heartache by telling you no season is for the Dame-led Blazers, and that hes not good enough to win a title. Better to rip that bandaid off now.

Been a Lakers fan since Kobe entered the league but I can’t stand LeBron. I was so conflicted during this season.

I just don't like LeBrons player mindset, I kind of expect players in the GOAT rankings to have a killer mentality like Jordan and Kobe and to me LeBron is a mental midget like Kevin Durant. It always made me cringe that he would name himself King and chosen one and the GOAT then admit that hes scared of losing and take winning shots, or that he would rather join All Stars rather than beat them.

Devin duvernay is a guy I’ve said is a poor route runner, and as of now I stand by that, at least facing man, but he is such a zone killer, he’s in the mold of a Wes Welker, he knows the soft spots and he knows the exact depth he needs to be, he sits down and also works back to the ball very consistently, and as an X factor he turns these outlet passes into big plays with his YAC ability.

we should be facing a lot of zone, defenses still don’t like turning their backs to Lamar, and if we get in another slugfest where the middle of the field is covered like we had against Tennessee and SF, duvernay should be a game changer, you can’t execute the only defensive gameplan that’s been proven to work against us when you have a 4.39 sure handed YAC machine sitting in the flats uncovered just waiting for the dump off so he can turn it into a big gain. To really cause headaches, make use of dobbins and Ingram in the flat too

He is a guy that the more I learn about him the more surprised I get that he was still on the board. I think he may be the steal of the draft for us.

Agree with this 100%. Who do you have in your top 5??

yeah ive always known that was his skill set, screens, sit downs, flys and posts, but ive never quite appreciated the extent of how good he is on those sit downs, im noticing the nuance more and more.

im also noticing that he tries to compensate for the stiffness with good old fakes and patience, hes very heads up in paying attention to the DBs hips and he knows they fear his speed, he uses his speed to drag defenders laterally, threatens a deep route, sees the hips flip, and then breaks opposite. like hes not a very good route runner because he lacks some of the quicks and flexibility that the ideal route runner has, but hes extremely crafty, way more than i originally gave him credit for. you see him often getting wide open because hes scared the shit out of a db just by threatening deep and he just goes.

while ive said from the start that i think proche is bound to become an elite route runner, i think duvernay may actually be more advanced. if you put duvernays IQ and understanding of what dbs are seeing from him into proche, you would have an incredible route runner, because proche has blindingly quick feet and great leverage gain, but he also doesnt understand what hes doing at the break point and he wastes so much motion and gives the db a huge upper hand in catching up. but if you put proches quick feet and flexible hips on duvernay, you would have steve smith.

1 MJ
2 Kareem
3 Kobe
4 LeBron
5 Magic

1 and 2 are set. 3-5 is fluid but I rank Kobes mental dominance of the modern game very highly. LeBron is a physical specimen and unrivalled stat machine. Magic and Bird are very close for me, Bird gets a knock for lack of athleticism on the defensive end.

That’s a good list. I’d put Magic in front of LeBron though. Kareem is an interesting one but I’m not mad at it

You can't even say the Titans executed a game plan that was proven to work against us, when we had 530 yards of offense and should have had more, but agree with the jist of what you are saying.

Titans were fine with giving up a whole lot of those yards, they knew what they were doing. They knew if they stopped andrews and Hollywood then it didn’t matter what happened outside of the 25, because we were gonna struggle to get in the endzone

they definitely didn't stop Hollywood, but Andrews was injured and we had too many dropped passes and missed opportunities on 4th down, but yes we were terrible inside the 25.
