obviously that's a worry but we really dont use a strict FS in the same way that earl's historically been used - not in this scheme

and id be interested to find out how often that cover 1 safety was brandon carr last year with how much we rolled ET down to the LoS vs his time in seattle

the worry for elliott for me is not the skill or the vision or the smarts - it's purely just the snaps and i think we may see some growing pains early as the workload gets bigger but i think he has the skillset from what ive seen and the thing that's been surprising based off his college film is the range he's shown in the NFL - since he's been here he's shown off really surprising athleticism given he only ran a 4.58 at the 40
I unfortunately don't have any snaps for who was single high how often. The stat just mentioned that Earl was the single high more often than not.

On a side note, Michael Silver on NFLNetwork said Earl Thomas showed up late to a meeting two days before the fight because... he had to wash his car.

The dude just.... seemed to be in his own world.

Michael Silver also confirmed that Clark was the one who threw his helmet in the video and said the altercation was because Earl said that the blown coverage was fine. Clark fired back that it wasn't fine and it wouldn't have happened if Earl showed up to meetings and walkthroughs.

1. Keep in mind that, for 2020, you have 4 PS players that are "protected" on a weekly basis from waivers, i.e. they can't be poached. Its effective a 57 man roster instead of a 53 man roster. While they'd be subject to waivers upon initially getting cut in camp, they're not subject every week (at least the four you protect). Moreover, keep in mind that poaching teams have to sign to their active roster, not just the full roster with PS squad.

you've got to be really careful with this because there's a real possibility someone useful gets poached when they hit waivers
the ravens have to be selective with which 4 guys they want to target as the 4 protected guys - got to be unattractive enough to other teams that they will make it to the practice squad

absolutely fair enough - chuck is a very even tempered guy so it had to have been building up for him to throw his helmet off like that - and he's seen as one of the leaders on the team (has been for about a year so some of the guys said today) so it really was a massive deal that he blew up at earl like that - and then for earl to punch chuck after the valid criticism is outrageous

earl clearly thought that he didnt have to put the work in and he'd just worry about himself but that's just not how this defence works

only difference ive got right now is that ive got ellis missing out but i dont really believe that he will miss out
i had us at 3 ILB for a while but that just seems unrealistic
and i kind of expect us to find another DB to add to the roster to get us up to 11 DBs too

it's tricky - the last 2/3 cuts are potentially going to be really surprising

It's weird because I feel like Washington is the obvious choice to be cut on the DL but he has the draft pick status in his favor. Now, I know DeCosta isn't as serious about draft status as some and cutting a 5th rounder isn't completely out of the ordinary. Mack and Lasley only lasted 1 year and Robert Myers never caught on if you want to go back that far.

I just can't bring myself to believe they'll get rid of Ellis either knowing that he's the only true NT backup and going from 4 huge NT types last year to only 1 just doesn't seem right.

DL is the most obvious place to drop someone for me with Ward, McPhee, and Ricard all having ability to play there in situational roles. I just don't know if I believe 1 of those 2 would actually be cut.

ellis as the only true NT makes sense to make the 53 but he's probably the most likely to make it to that protected spot on the practice squad if we wanted - would be a risk

washington is probably still the most likely candidate to get waived but it would be odd to cut a 5th round pick in his first offseason with talent unless they've been shown enough that they wont make it yet... that would be a tough cut - i mean robert myers is really the only recent example - the only thing with washington is if they dont feel he's ready he might be one of those phantom i/r candidates

I know DL is a hard spot to shine in TC but I do find it curious that I haven't heard Washington's name once.

clifton brown made the good point today that harbs has said that ideally he wants the starting OL in place and decided by the end of this week which would mean this is the last week for anyone to really shine and make a push for that spot - the fact that only fluker has played with the starters at RG suggests to me that it would take something spectacular for someone to unseat him by the end of this week

that being said it was around this time last year when it looked like jermaine eluemunor might be in the drivers seat for the starting job at LG - a week later we'd traded him to the patriots

You aren't kidding. I think virtually everyone but Bozeman has played there in camp/preseason and then boom, Bozeman is the starter out of nowhere. I know there were talks about him even making the roster.

tbh the only DL we've really heard about have been calais campbell and justin madubuike - even derek wolfe has hardly come up at all beyond being mentioned speculatively about what he adds

Definitely fair. He just might be the most forgotten rookie that’s ever existed. No one asks about him and it seems he just kind of barely exists.

when you've got 7 picks in the first 2 days of the draft and the guys picked after you play flashier camp positions it's going to be very easy to be forgotten especially at that position

ben bredeson's been in a very similar position but he was a better known player before he was drafted which probably helps him escape complete anonymity

Any word on how Lamar looked in practice today?

potentially planning on doing a video on deshon elliott in week 6

but some general notes from what ive noticed so far:
- very confident (both as a communicator and just in terms of his decision making)
- rangy and athletic (makes at least 2 great plays in a free safety type role)
- very natural moving around the defence pre and post-snap - really smooth back-pedal gets him lots of ground very quickly
- frequently the deepest player on the back-end - very comfortable in single-high type looks

We also have Ward who's multidimensional enough to play basically everywhere along the DL. Ellis is ideal for GL & short yardage packages.

apparently he looked comfortable and unhindered - only sign that there might be lingering issues is that he didnt have his most impressive day passing and didnt take off a huge amount

but at least 3 different beat writers noticed nothing that would suggest he was ailing in anyway
Thank you. Saw a slight limp when he was walking out to practice and got worried. Glad to know he looked comfortable
