Also, it’s pretty telling how we haven’t heard a peep of interest surrounding Roman as a HC when there are so many vacancies
Three playoff stinkers will do that . He has been completely out coached in each of these three playoff losses and takes too long to make offensive adjustments . It took him an entire half against the Bills to make adjustments which began to show promise in the 3rd quarter.

Roman's offense has run its course here. Just listen to Steve Smith's analysis of Roman's schemes. He says a 6 year old can figure it out.

Roman clearly needs more than just a hand as far as the passing game goes, but his run game is indefensible if you can just get them to respect the passing game.

you can find someone to help Roman get teams to respect the pass and not run 8/9 in the box and playing shallow zones, you can not find someone to replicate Romans run game

I agree with you but we need more sophistication and complexity in the passing game . We need someone to take us to that next level in the passing game. Bring in somebody to help !

Great thread about duvernay’s snap counts and usage:

I guess my question regarding Duvernay is - what was the plan? His limitations and talents are exactly what they were projected to be based on college - if that wasn’t what we wanted then why did we draft him in the first place?

did the plan change when he started losing snaps? But we knew we’d have to manufacture touches for him to have an impact so...

obviously the return skills are great but idk about everyone else but I’m not drafting a return specialist with a day 2 pick most of the time

will be interesting to see what they say about him in the offseason when we get into OTAs (assuming they happen)

I think the obvious overall question is... is that "somebody" a new coach, or will it be a new coach AND a new QB?

The one question that nobody seems to have the answer to (including me) is this... is our passing game so simplistic because that's how Roman wants to run his offense, OR, is the passing game so simplistic because Roman, and other coaches, don't believe Lamar can handle a more complex one?

One thing to note is that we do have a passing game coordinator, and he's actually getting some small interest as an NFL head coach. I can't tell you how involved he is in game planning, play calling, route designs or schemes, but I would think that alone would say something. This is a 65 year old guy who's pretty much mostly coached WRs in the Pro's, and has never had play-calling responsibilities as far as I can tell. And he's getting at least an interview or two from NFL teams.

I mean... is it really?

Like Roman isn't a plug-and-play OC who can come in and take any QB or run any scheme. Like why would Atlanta think he's a good fit for Matt Ryan, or Detroit with Stafford, etc. For him, the right "fit" is extremely important. Arguably more for him than any other possible candidate.

There's only a very small # of openings that were available with a team that basically didn't have an existing QB on the roster and that could adapt to Roman's scheme if they get the right players. And that was basically Jacksonville (who is essentially locked into Lawrence, who's not a Roman guy) and the Jets. Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Philly, or LA really aren't fits at all for what Roman tries to do on offense.

So like yeah there's a lot of openings, but that doesn't mean he's the kind of coach every team would want. Not just because of his pedigree as an OC, but because of the style of offense he runs and the kind of personnel he needs to do it.

Roman is a terrible real time play calling adjuster.
That will likely never change . After our first offensive series where we ran all over the Bills , the Bills adjusted but it took Roman till the 3rd quarter to respond .

That to me is why he needs to go . Put in QB coach as OC if he’s that good .

3 playoff years on a row Roman has been out coached.

this just doesnt seem to bear fruit to me as an argument
we're constantly asking lamar to go through progressions and read the field - and sometimes he's a bit late on some reads but not in a way that would suggest that including a more complex and diverse passing game would be a problem

i kind of wonder if it's partly down to the offseason being completely stilted and much shorter - that with the depth and complexity of this running game it took over most of the install days and left us with a lot less time to install passing concepts

My thoughts exactly. It appears to me that we just won't do things with Lamar for some odd reason. I can tell you that alot of fans felt this way about Roman when he coached Colin. The passing was just so basic.

How do you explain Lamar doing mostly well when we go no huddle or those quick snaps? I think Lamar can make the decisions he just needs work but Roman needs to scheme better pass routes like you said. I think Jim Harbaigh helped Roman when he was in SF in the passing game

here are the clips he posted...

basically looks to me like he's pissed off we signed him and then didn't use him despite practicing these plays

important to note though that posting clips is incredibly frowned upon - and contributed at the end to earl thomas getting cut (was getting cut anyway but didnt help)

To me it looks like Andrews is angry in the same way as Dez. They're tired of hearing Lamar can't throw and so on.

I think andrews may agree with him.. i usually use that emoji as a sign as like “ tough” or “ strong”... like if you do something good we say “ thats tough”

Just like how I couldn't understand for the life of me why there were ONLY two defenders before Allen's TD pass, I can not understand how we don't even attempt to throw fades to either X or Boykin. Like wtf?

there are a couple of signings i just dont understand this year

but especially with dez - what's the plan?
what's the point in signing him if we're not going to use him how he's best suited i.e. endzone fades, back the of the endzone jump balls up the seam - stuff where his height and physicality make him super valuable

like if we're not going to run those sorts of plays then what did we sign him for?
