I think this makes a lot of sense, but the one part I kind of disagree with is Lamar doesn't throw into contested window. I feel like he throws extremely tight window balls to Andrews literally all the time. I think it's just he doesn't have any faith in any of the receivers being able to male those plays and that's why he doesn't. If true, an Allen Robinson type could be big for the passing game

i honestly think when i see a load of ravens fans (especially on social media) clamouring for allen robinson - that they're excited about him for the wrong reasons...

yes he's got a big frame and frequently makes great catches outside of his frame and in contested situations but that's the icing on top of the rest of his game

Maybe not price wise, but that's definitely what separates him from Golladay. Robinson does it all. Golladay is very good, but definitely relies on size to win a lot. Robinson uses size but also uses his ability to separate.

1. I'm not really sure that's like a super special pass rush group. I mean Judon isn't like a double digit sack guy, Bowser is a rotational player, and Wolfe and Campbell really aren't premier pass rushers anymore (Wolfe specifically). Like I think that group is much better in run defense than in pass defense, and it showed.
2. There is a general thought process, which Eric alluded to this offseason, that pass rush is becoming, to a certain extent, less relevant. Offenses are getting the ball out quicker.
Lamar Jackson is one of the "slowest" in the league in terms of average delivery time, and that's right around 3 seconds. 3 seconds from snap to delivery. Not exactly a lot of time for pass rush.

Also, we played a decent number of games against the quickest to release passers in the league. People figured out by mid-season that there was no point in pressuring more than 4 against Pittsburgh. Ben had an average 2.3 seconds per release. You can assemble an All-Star cast of rushers, and they'll get limited pressure on a guy who pretty consistently gets rid of the ball in under 2.5 seconds.
Andy Dalton, Brandon Allen, Philip Rivers, Dwayne Haskins all at 2.55 seconds or less per release. That's 6 games right there against guys who don't get sacked a lot because they deliver the ball so quickly.
I mean even so, when you watch the games... you dnt see our rushers beating anyone off the ball quickly. Pass rushing will always relevant. If we had a good pass rush, not even great, just good... we be the best defense in nfl by far.

I agree with you. I feel pretty strongly that if we were going to spend bog money on receiver it should be Robinson over Golladay. However, I just want Lamar to get his guy whoever it is, who can be his security blanket at WR.

I’m ok with over paying to get “the guy”. Flacco certainly had faults but we really wronged him but never having a true number one in his prime.

We can rectify that mistake for Lamar. If it doesn’t work so be it but id just love for us to take a chance. I think a true number one will exponentially increase Lamar’s growth.

i mean flacco didnt have amazing weapons during his time but he played with multiple great receivers during his ravens career - he started his career with derrick mason, won a superbowl with anquan boldin and had steve smith still tearing up the league

the idea of getting a number 1 receiver is over-blown - it's about the corps as a whole - obviously the better everyone in that corps is the better your offence will be - and it's probably no surprise that the best corps he ever had was when he won a superbowl: boldin, torrey, pitta, rice, jacoby, dixon

obviously it's not an amazing corps but it was diverse and deep

That is so key. Diverse and deep.

Some new coaches

Martin has developed some interesting names in college, but Williams is an exciting hire. He's been the personal coach for many guys as mentioned above. He's very well known as a route running and footwork specialist.

this sounds like a step in the right direction.

culley was... idek how the fuck hes in this position now lol, like im crossing my fingers that culley was a problem as well as roman

dont know anything about keith williams so that'll be interesting to research lol

but Tee Martin i'm aware of because his son is Amari Rodgers who just so happens to be a WR in the 2021 draft class lol - touted by many as a day 2 pick - although right now he's a very YAC gadgety type of slot (a bit like duvernay but slower but with some better route-running - maybe a bit more like a less exciting deebo samuel than duvernay maybe)

not sure that means anything but it's interesting nonetheless

i have to say that idk much about keith williams but from what @Simba said ill probably like it
and no idea who jay peterson is beyond what zrebiec said

but i love all of these hires - it's rare we hire externally but we've been gutted so this mix of exciting young guys and a couple of high quality veteran coaches is nice - and the injection of fresh idea is always nice especially in such a key offseason

interesting that both those passing game guys have come from college and not from the league - new ideas hopefully from not just outside the building but outside the league

New is always better.
Lol exactly there's been no one left to be promoted. Time to reload i guess.
We're at a point where it's rational to bring in guys who have different mindsets.

I think this is the big thing here. We were clamoring for them to inject some new blood and fresh ideas, and we did just that. Especially in the passing game where we added some more "technicians" for lack of a better term. Maybe it works and maybe it doesn't, but at least we're trying something different which is what we all wanted.
