Because of this it’s hard to determine how well he would do at LT with a pass first NFL team .

I can't confirm this because I don't have an account, but the odd thing is that he apparently graded a lot higher as a pass blocker vs. a run blocker via PFF. Now, that could be because (1) we don't pass as much so he doesn't have to win as a much and (2) Lamar's escapability helps, but interesting nonetheless. I struggle seeing that carrying over to an offense built a lot more on the pass than run.

I wouldn’t imagine pff would credit a LT if he gives up a pressure that forces an escape.

I’d say it’s more like he faces softer pass rush reps due to the nature of our offense, that and he’s actually a genuinely solid pass protector. Like I wouldn’t advise certain teams give up the farm for him, but like a mcvay, Payton, arians, lafleur type of offense I think he could do very well, the key would be to maintain balance, let him grind guys down, levels the playing field for a big power guy like him, if he’s in KC or Buffalo or AZ he’s probably gonna look like a mistake, he’d look average at best. But there are a lot of teams who pass the ball where I think brown still looks like a pro bowl LT

After watching vita vea play on edge and literally push kc LT back like it was nothing, im surprised more teams dont start experimenting with that

Yeah. Guys like him and Ngata that could do that are like once every ten years type of player.

Love that. Winks defense was sparked when we drafted Humphrey, we decided to build around him, and he’s responded like an elite player should, and on top of that added a whole other factor with the punch and spread that to the whole team(for better or worse lol). He’s the defensive cornerstone right now, there really isn’t anyone else in the conversation with him there.

and while we paid a lot for him, we didn’t have to reset the market

it’s amazing that we were able to sign both Ronnie and marlon to deals that didn’t make them number 1 paid at their position when they signed...

Peters not at the same level but I love the way they complement each other and have somewhat developed each other’s games

but also it has to be said Chris Hewitt (and Jesse minter too) deserves a ton of credit for how he’s developed all these guys in the secondary - there’s a reason he’s thought of as one of the rising young stars in coaching

Hewiit maybe great but tbh... peters, tavon and hump been the same. In college, hump played great cvg, his ball skills just sucked and its still the same in nfl... tavon young has played the same way he has in college.. peters is just peters.

Hump and peters punching out the ball is new. It maybe some small things with their game that im sure he is responsible for but just looking, it doesnt seem like much.. now if averett turns into a stud or our safties start playing great cvg, then it would be much more noticeable

i mean do you not think the fact that both our safeties are home-grown 6th round picks and the fact that averett played like a starting CB as a 4th round pick is already a pretty good coaching job?

also the fact that Marlon Humphrey has made the transition to being able to play in the slot which is something he never had to do in college - and while marlon doesn't get picks he does have great ball skills to get the ball out at the catch-point (you don't always have to get your head turned back to the QB to locate the ball)

converting Jimmy to a hybrid safety role despite him basically only playing one side as an outside corner (let alone not playing slot)

and then having x random corner who's only just joined the team play confidently within the scheme after like 2 days of practice (or practice squad guys with no reputation or calibre) - obviously a lot of that's on the players for being quick and smart too but he's clearly a good teacher

Peters is the most like himself
and it's hard to say with tavon because he's hardly played and his rookie year was with leslie frazier as the secondary coach (think hewitt was DB coach at that point) - but he had his best season in 2018 with Hewitt as the secondary coach...

Understood, but i still dont think our safties are good and even though theyre home grown, neither does anything spectacular. Imo we still need atleast one more S. averett would not start for another team right now at all literally, however he does look a little better since we first saw him..jimmy has always been good vs run and even before he moved to that role, almost everyone here knew it would happen because he showed the ability to do so with his style of play..

Im taking anything at all from hewitt and i always believed we have the best coaches in all of land but for me to give him the credit that youre giving him, im gonna have to see someone like averett or elliot turn into potential starters for other teams.

You’re not giving enough credit lol, we’ve made almost zero investment Into safety and yet we have 2 quality home grown starters

The thing is that they are good lol you just dislike them because it’s not your preference of skill set. The single high ball hawk is a dying breed and safeties who can wear multiple hats is the trend and they both do that pretty well, Clark especially
