Whoever put this out here is going to be fired. Nothing leaks out of the Castle, feel like EDC wanted to see who he could trust to keep things a secret. That person failed.

smokescreen. Aka, we’re not getting a 1st round WR. Landon Dickerson and Joe Tryon it is!

Just like all this smoke 49ers are blowing up in order to get Fields lol

I think if either Lawrence or Fields fell, we would draft them. I don't think it would happen with any other QBs.

for sure none of the other QBs would ever be a consideration - i just think that with Lawrence there's some flaws on his college tape that mirror some of the issues that lamar has had at times (needing to see receivers come open, not throwing with a ton of anticipation consistently) - lawrence does have a stronger arm but i think lamar's got better pocket presence and is obviously an elite athlete

i think fields does things that lamar didn't/doesn't

the thing is - the 49ers dont need to blow any smoke - if they want fields, they'll get fields - no one else is gonna take him (unless they think fields is going 2 and the jets have just not anything like that leak out of the building - and if that's the case i'd have mad respect for the Jets for keeping that under wraps)

where could that report possibly have come from though?
nothing escapes that draft room that they don't want to leave...

so either someone's lying, or this has been deliberately put out there for a purpose

if it's true then i love it - and it seems obvious but my guess is they're targeting 1 of these 4 guys: Bateman, Marshall, Moore and Toney... I'd be surprised if it was Rondale Moore but they clearly value athleticism highly - 4 of those 5 ran sub-4.4 and the slowest was bateman who ran a 4.43

of those my guess is it's marshall or bateman because of the interest in higgins in 2020

Possibly. Hopefully EDC's goons aren't sloppy.

To rossi's point, I'm going with the "deliberately put out there for a purpose" option. This screams strategic smokescreen, but you know how I roll. I'mma try to speak this shit into existence lol.

i can see it. 49ers don’t want to show their hand and sway Joe Douglas into rethinking the hype on Wilson.

what if Joe D is still weighing out the 2 prospects.. 49ers love for fields might make Joe D look harder at fields

(but I have Fields as my QB2. So I’m biased)

tbh i think it's far more likely that someone at ESPN is just making shit up lol
this was either leaked intentionally or it's made up - and im not sure what benefit the ravens get from leaking this - because this isnt likely to get teams to leapfrog them - the only way this does anything is if they're looking for a WR needy team to come up and trade with us but they could just as easily trade up with the browns who probably have more reason to trade down (for cheaper) than we do

the only other option is that this was someone chatting to kiper as a solid (albeit kiper's had us taking marshall in basically every mock he's done)

I’m rooting for Joe D to get this right and take Fields. Make us Flock proud!

don’t give into the media pressure and the hype they’ve built up for Wilson.

This report came from McShay, for whatever that's worth

But if I'm Joe D, it doesn't matter what the 49ers like or want. Who cares if Lynch/Shanahan like Fields better? They've got #2, and they have their pick of anybody in this class not named Trevor Lawrence.

I doubt because one team may like a player it makes another team pick that player. These guys are ego maniacs, and its pretty clear through a history of drafts that GM's very infrequently listen to fans or "analysts" when it comes to evaluating players.

WE WANT PITZZ

WE WANT PITZZ

WE IS I AND I IS WE

The last time I wanted us to draft someone this much, it was Lamar. I'd be ecstatic if we gave up whatever was needed to get Atlanta's pick to take Pitts.
Mandrews, Pitts, Brown, Watkins. That'll do. Dobbins and Gus to run, Boyle and Ricard for added blocking and Lamar to do whatever the fuck he wants to do with all of those weapons.
Please.

(And yes, I know it won't happen. But I've got a few more days in which to dream.)

I personally would never trade like 4 first round picks or whatever it would cost to move up to #4 for a TE. I wouldn't give up four first rounders for a prime Travis Kelce or Tony Gonzalez, let alone a guy who hasn't played in the league yet.
Also some serious questions I've seen from analysts about his ability (or desire) to block in the NFL, which a TE pretty much has to do.

Either Atlanta takes him, Cincy takes him over Chase or he's a Dolphin at 6. No way he is anywhere within trade range.
If Atlanta pivots and either takes a QB or trades down to a team coming up to get a QB, Cincinnati has both a dream and nightmare spot.

They could justify Pitts, they could justify Chase (who Burrow is supposedly lobbying for), or they could do the "wise" thing and take the best Tackle in the draft, since Cincinnati's Oline is total shit and it likely doesn't matter who he's throwing to at the moment.

Plus its not like Cincinnati is void of pass catchers. They have some pretty good offensive skill position talent on that roster.

In that spot specifically, I'd go Pitts, with Oline as the backup. I'm not taking Chase if I'm Cincinnati.

I know a lot of people in the media have been saying Dallas loves Pitts. I want to see how far he falls before they try to come up to get him.

Say Atlanta trades back with, like, Denver, to #9. Denver takes a QB at #4, and Cincinnati takes an Olineman at #5. If Miami takes Chase (or even a Bama WR) at #6 instead of Pitts, I would love to see what happens after that. If Pitts were on the board at #7, I think Dallas would love to trade up to get him, and I think Detroit could very easily want to trade back, since they need a lot of help in a lot of places.

Long shot obviously, but I'm more intrigued by what happens if Pitts doesn't go in the top 5.

those analysts are fools then
he's fine as a blocker

im not giving up 4 first rounders for a TE either

but Kyle Pitts is what a generational talent at TE looks like - his athleticism is reminiscent of vernon davis who's the only other TE with the kind of athleticism that Pitts has that I can think of ever... he's a nuanced route-runner, is good enough as a blocker, great hands, versatile

this guy is long, athletic, powerful, nuanced route runner (albeit with room to grow and get even better), dominant vs press, massive wingspan which he uses well at the catch-point, good after the catch, a legitimate deep threat, can play both in-line and split out, is a matchup nightmare for any DB, S or LB (there isn't really an ideal player to cover him with) because he was beating elite corners every week in the SEC

he's one of the cleanest and best prospects you can find at any position in most drafts - he's the 1 true generational prospect in this class (people have tossed that word around willy nilly at lawrence or sewell but that would be inaccurate in their cases)
