And the thing with Proche is he’s not special in any single area. At all. He lost his job to Duvernay as the PR because Proche is way too slow and not explosive. At least Boykin can block and is good for a TD every now and then

I think Proche is the odd man out. The day Duv took over the punt returner role, it was over for Proche. He just don’t offer anything else really to justify being that 6th WR.

At least Boykin can come in and block his ass off lol.

When Lamar was with his receivers and Dobbins, in AZ, I'm not sure Boykin was one of the receivers.

Let’s hope Bateman becomes a honorary Floridian like MAndrews and Dobbins. We need to see the Lamar-to-Bateman connection for years to come!

The thing with Proche vs. Boykin is that you know what you have in Boykin and it's not much. Whereas Proche came into the NFL in a shortened offseason so you didn't get as much opportunity with him.

and if they're gonna ride the inactives, boykin's abilities on special teams are less important vs proche's because they won't be the deciding factor necessarily - but proche's cheaper and we have an extra year of control over him

I get it. It’s going to be Hollywood, Watkins and Bateman first 3 in.

I just think we can get some type of trade compensation for him rather than flat out cut the guy. A 2019 3rd rounder who’s 6’4 and ran a 4.42. The shock would be if nobody bites and we flat out cut him. Talk about a whiff from EDC and the scouts lol.

why would anyone give us anything for him?
he hasn't remotely shown anything of value that another team might covet...

his value is at its highest here and he's at best looking at riding the gameday inactives here unless he makes a considerable leap

i dont mind the whiff so much - although that 3rd round in 2019 looks pretty horrifying for us - what's frustrating is that we gave up picks to go and get him

He's a significantly better route runner based on the 3 routes I saw last year. I just don't see what value Boykin has if the only time he goes on the field is to block. That doesn't make us better.

We just drafted a guy in Wallace who is a lot better version of Proche. We have no other players who could provide a size/red zone dimension that Boykin provides

which would be a good point if boykin ever actually used his size...
id much rather see us use wallace - who's giving up 5 inches on boykin - in the redzone because he's way more physical and strong at the catch-point

there is nothing boykin offers that we havent got a younger/better/more versatile option for

proche and wallace aren't dissimilar but it's hard to anoint wallace as his successor straight away

WR is a notoriously hard position to hit on (esp for us lol), I don't mind that they took a swing and a miss on a guy who had the size speed potential to be a no.1 but didn't pan out.

Now that we've spent some time with the guy and know for sure that he's not it, I strongly doubt any team would willingly trade anything for him. Why would they?

Out of the two I guess Boykin could be worked into a few more running plays because of his blocking, but Proche's got more potential left at this point Tbh I'd be tempted to stick with 5 WRs, ditch them both and use the extra roster spot elsewhere. If anyone can get by with less receivers it's our team.

He can block but I have serious doubts that he can actually play wide receiver as well as I would expect James Proche to play in year 2

going with 5 seems like a likely outcome - with the possibility of hopefully retaining proche on the practice squad

Do you guys think we had amari rodgers on our radar?

I’m sure he was, but only on an “if he falls” basis after the Bateman pick. I still think Tylan fits our offense better though, because he’s a tough SOB who can play slot too

I don’t think there’s a team out there that Wallace fits better than Rodgers, Rodgers is an elite route runner, with explosive change of direction, and runs like a rb at times and is also no slouch at going up after the ball, despite his size

Lol ok, we’ll go with that

Because i was just watching his 1vs1 senior bowl drills thinking why didnt we draft him

Because he’s overrated and we had just drafted Bateman, and we weren’t going to trade up for a receiver right after we just drafted one in the first
