I think our rosters pretty solid, feeling quietly confident going into this season as is. Having said that, if we can scrabble together the money for a decent vet pass rusher, I'm all aboard that train.

Yeah I feel like unless Oweh is much farther along than anyone should reasonably expect, and Ferguson becomes a viable option, then we will need a pass rusher to be a real contender. Doesn’t have to be a great one either, just someone serviceable.

I'd be ecstatic if we could land either Houston or Ingram. Even if Oweh is the real deal, it's hard to trust a rookie to immediately dominate so I would feel so much better with a vet on the team.

Morgan Moses was released by Washington, I wonder if we could get him on a cheap one or two year deal with extra void years to spread the cap.

he's a very good RT and has played 5 straight years without missing a game. He has played with injuries and is tough as nails. I hope he doesn't land with the Bengals or Steelers. I know he recently asked for a trade, but other than that, I don't understand why they are getting rid of him. I'd be really happy if we were able to land him, but doubt that would happen.

I'd love to have Moses on the team, but we haven't done the voidable years contracts yet. They just don't want to leave the dead cap and they are trying to structure contracts that are team friendly.

Sometimes patience does help. I don't know if the Ravens would've chosen Moses over Villanueva if they had a choice given the price difference and position fit, but we signed Villanueva already. So, there is that. Having said that, if we can accommodate a veteran edge like Houston and Moses with some cap maneuvering, I am all for it. However, I don't see it happening.

Jeff Z still not shooting down Julio landing with us, especially with what Peter King is saying (could take just a 3rd). Obviously things have to be moved around money wise, but we’re wizards at that. Jeff believes we are indeed still interested.

Wouldn't doubt it. Fits how we do things with WR's. Bring a vet in who is past their prime and clog up the WR depth chart to not allow any of the young guys to get a chance at developing in live action.

Julio comes in and who do we cut for him out of the WR room?

1) Julio
2) Hollywood
3) Bateman
4) Watkins
5) Wallace
6) Duvernay
7) Proche
8) Boykin

I don't see us keeping 6 receivers, let alone 8. That would mean that Boykin/Proche/Duv would possibly be cut, or at least two of the three would be. I just see pass rush as the position we would spend that amount of capital/money on as it is dry bones there.

we would be keeping the first 6 in this scenario and going into the year with a loaded receiver room...
we probably keep 6 even without julio

Jeff himself came up with a scenario in which we include Boykin in the trade. I don’t think Jeff would be entertaining a trade idea if he truly thought we weren’t interested

i mean i just dont see how we work it financially, but if we can it would be wild...
It absolutely would be. Why can’t Lamar be spoiled like Kyler, Josh, Baker, Burrow, Tua, Danny, etc?

Hearing reports that Julio didn't know he was on live TV today with Shannon Sharpe when he was talking about not wanting to be in Atlanta, and wanting to be with a winner (mentioned not wanting to go to the Cowboys). If this is the case, damn. Shannon just lost a LOT of respect and trust if so

Neither do I.

That being said... I could, potentially, see it as an option mid-season, similar to the Yannick trade. If we get into October/November, and we either face injuries or feel like another WR is going to put us over the top to a Lombardi, a mid-season trade makes more sense, because then we pay less of his salary. If you end up waiting until closer to the trade deadline, which would put you like late-October, early-November timeframe, you'll only end up paying in the 50% neighbor of his salary, or around like $7-8M. Becomes much more affordable at that point.

I think a lot of the media reports from guys like King and pretty much everyone else basically don't even take the salary cap into consideration at all. Even if you assume we have ~$10M in cap space right now, with a lot of it already been spent on players that we drafted, signed or are already on the roster currently but don't count against the cap.

Our official cap space right now is $9.3M, which includes most of the significant spend on the rookie class. You'll need about $3.5M more in space to add two additional players to the 53 man (rule of 51 currently) and to fill out a practice squad. That'll put you down below $6M in cap space, and you've added no players we already aren't counting on.

Most teams carry $3-5M in cap space into the season to account for injury replacements (injured players count towards the cap, as do their replacements), mid-season signings, etc.

So essentially, practically any player we "add" beyond this point who makes the 53 man is likely going to require a contract restructure to sign them. Based on what I see, there's about $7-8M in available contracts that could be restructured to create space, and most of that comes from Stanley.

So for me, the absolute ceiling of cap space you could create would be in the range of $10M, which won't get you Julio now. And that means going into the season with limited or no cushion at all.

The $ just doesn't add up for me.

Believe me as long as EDC is our GM we will always be in the mix if a notable players is available via trade.
