The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Raiders Week 1 Edition

Far Far Far worse? How old are you?

This is no forum for discussing Football Intelligence. Its incredulous to even suggest trying to build a bridge from here to there. For most this is a forum for devoted allegiance. You want that? Sure you do! Don't ask for that here however. Homey don't roll that way. One has to have athletic intelligence to recognize the problems. And more than that to provide the solution. Lamar scrambles to prevent throwing Interceptions. Do you know why he's so afraid of the Pick? Lamar is going to continue to fumble while trying to be an NFL running back rather than an NFL Quarterback. When he is sufficiently reprimanded for continually running and fumbling and is forced to change his reactionary game, his interceptions are going to climb skyward.

If Lamar were nearly the player you have framed him to be, the Ravens will have a great year and not last in the League in Passing.
Well none of the paragraph you wrote made any sense whatsoever, but you already knew that.
As for passing yardage, it's irrelevant. They're last in passing because they throw the ball less than anybody. It's not rocket science. One correlates with another. If you want high passing yardage instead of wins/losses, just put the Lions tape on a loop for the last decade. Will get you off all day long.

I'm a "show me guy". You gotta show me the higher interceptions. You're a theoretical guy. I'm a practical guy. That's where the football intelligence concept comes in.

And yes, I understand that you don't understand that. That's on you.

It's a cruel fate to be acutely aware that there's a higher level of intellect without being able to actually reach it. Shrouding that lack of aptitude by committing to a gimmick is one way of circumventing the issue. Besides, it's not the worst coping mechanism. Adding condiments to a shit sandwich is a lot easier than learning how to cook.

All of the fallacies of relying too heavily on PFF apply, but according to them all three of our interior OL were above league average in the raiders game.

Does that mean they played well or is the league really that bad at OL?

Okay but real talk, I think the wildest thing in this is that Villanueva still somehow was not graded as the worst. What 3 guys were worse than him?!

Well, realistically, its both, but I think that's sort of semantics at this point. If all Olineman sucked, then there's just degrees of suck.

I think most of us that watched and reviewed film were generally at least "content" with the interior OLine play. I can't say they were great, but they certainly didn't seem to do much to cost us the game either. Probably what you would expect from an Oline, which is "if they're not noticeable, they're probably doing their job well".

PFF is "interesting" when it comes to Oline grades. They're not bad at it and are generally a decent barometer, but guys like Ken and others who have done film study would tell you they think they tend to overvalue run blocking and undervalue pass blocking, which would typically favor a run-heavy team like Baltimore. For those that have ready Film Study's articles from prior years, he would tell you that pass blocking should be weighted higher, because most of your "money downs" or "high leverage" plays during a game will almost exclusively be pass plays, meaning pass protection is more important.

V gave up 10 pressures and Ronnie 9. Pretty much the reason the name Max Crosby became a household name. Our best runs were on the inside and most scrambles by Lamar he darted up the middle first. They really didn't play bad on the interior.

I'm personally excited to see what Mekari can do at RT and V should play better on the left which is his natural position. Main reason I wanted to bring in Dennis Kelly over him. Switching from LT to RT is a massive change and he's just too damn lean for that position imo. Never liked that move. Hell I'd have rather kept Mason and started Ricard if it came down to it.

If it helps, he was the worst graded pass blocking tackle of the week regardless of side. But their consistency can be wonky, especially among the initial grades. I watched Samuel Cosmi struggle last night and he came away with a clean sheet in pass protection with one of the highest grades on either offense.

not all pressures are the same tbf - ronnie gave up some hurries in those 9 pressures but AV gave up like 4 QB hits and 2 sacks in his 10 pressures (vaguely remembering the exact numbers off the top of my head so may be slightly wrong on the specific stats but the point remains)
