I think 16 is a bit excessive, but 8 is the perfect number for me. As far as I'm concerned, you can still make the first and second rounds of the playoffs bowl games as well. I mean......why not?

I’m sure there’s some people currently involved in the bowl system that would not make the same amount of money if they expanded the playoffs. Just my speculation on the hold up. If it made sense fiscally , i think it already would have been done it

i mean i assume its mostly about money and im not the most up to date on matters of college football generally but why would he switch OU for USC?

I’m curious if the SEC change has anything to do with it. Id much rather get big time money living in sunny Cali, and playing Oregon/ Utah vs big time money, living in Oklahoma, and playing Bama/UGA

insane contract details lol

Oh and it comes with way more job security than the NFL. As long as you are winning, you basically have a job for life even if you don't beat your main rival for 8 years like Jim Harbaugh. I 'd bet Oklahoma would offer something similar for Kliff Kingsbury if the rumors are true he is their number one target. Then again if I'm Kliff.... why would I want to leave this for Oklahoma and get beat by Alabama every year? Oklahoma is going to regret going to the SEC.

Trying their best to avoid Georgia & Alabama at 1 & 4, get rid of the SEC bias.

I so badly want Bama and Michigan to lose their conference championships opening the door for the Notre Dame players. Brian Kelly leaving a week before the regular season ends is the ultimate douche move. The players deserve better

Harbs (John) was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Notre Dame job.
1. Not happening
2. It’s pretty amazing how much college coach’s are getting paid now. Many of the big name schools are paying their coach more than most NFL coaches. So if John was interested from a fiscal standpoint I’m sure he could leverage himself into an enormous contract with ND.

bisciotti wouldnt let it happen - every time guys we like get interest elsewhere they seem to get nice little raises that keep them happy lol - happens with coordinators we like, front office personnel, coaches - and because there's no salary cap for coaches and front office personnel steve can pay however much he wants lol

Right but Kelly would become the highest-paid coach in not just college football, but also in the NFL. There’s no cap in college either so it’s fair to say a university could compete with some owners

it's also college football lol... it's not the NFL

Totally agree , just playing devils advocate if we’re talking my original post which is purely from a fiscal stand point.

College football is bigtime. They sell out stadiums that sit over 100,000 people. It's a different animal where it's more about recruiting than dealing with salaried players. Jim Harbaugh left the NFL to go back to his alma matter. It's just what environment you want to be in and the control you can have.

not many successful HCs opting out of the NFL to go back to college...
a lot of the nfl guys who go back often couldnt or didnt hack it in the NFL or they were lower down coaches who got a significant promotion in the college game

because the quality of the players and the games mostly sucks - 2020 was one of the most interesting college seasons for me mostly because the SEC played itself every week and suddenly there was some decent competition at times...

yes the fanbases in some of these places are huge and the stadiums but my god is the football often boring - like i watch it mostly on my saturday afternoon/evening when there's nothing else to watch but mostly i dont start watching until bowl season and even then it'd better be good teams playing and even then it's mostly because im watching draft prospects
