Yeah for sure. It's hard to identify a top need here because injuries depleted us. Tackling and ball skills are a requirement on defense right now so it may be nice to get someone who can do those. That is CB or S; however, we do have Young, Humphrey, Peters all under contract and Clark and Stephens, so I could see focusing on Edge where we got nothing but a bag of chips and someone with potential in Oweh. DL is also very bad with nobody signed but Wolfe, Washington, and Justin. We will hope some of those guys rebound but I feel CB, S, Edge, DL have to be picks at some point. As for offense, only real major need IMHO is LT if Stanley is a no-go and C pending Bozeman. Other than that, I feel we could get better there at every position but feel we have decent talent there as well (assuming everyone is healthy, you have Stanley | Cleveland* | Bozeman* | Zeitler | Mekari or James) but none of those guys precludes us from taking an OL early either. In that area we're kind of predictable because I don't think we will take WR, RB, TE early.

Agree. The pick is either DL, Edge, DB or OL. Take the best one at any of those positions and keep it moving. Possibly trade down depending on what's available, but shouldn't be too tough.

"power struggle" aka the FO is deflecting from wasted picks on the OL and Tuas inconsistencies...
I mean... it looks like a pretty talented roster to me. I see defensive playmakers at every level, and I see a WR/pass catching core that is just as good as what many of the better teams in the league have.

I see a bad Oline and a QB who isn't very good in my opinion, but I also have no clue what Brian Flores would do to improve either of those things.

I'm not a Flores guy. I think he's a fine coach, but I don't think he's anything more than a really good DC who got a HC gig and hasn't been able to translate that into winning football or into improved offensive play. And if the offense is regressing and you're not an offensive guy, what do I need you for?

The only way that team is going to improve dramatically is by trading for Watson, which will require tons of draft picks and many years of talent capital to pull off. And if they pull that off, again, I don't know what Flores is doing to elevate them.

My problem is the coach wasn't the one that picked these bad OL and Qb which we both agree are subpar. Why isn't the GM gone too? This is my biggest gripe. They made awful decisions with great draft stock, Tua being the biggest.

It seems like there was a power struggle between Grier and Flores. Not sure that keeping Grier was the right move (his drafting has been pretty uneven imo, but he's had some solid hits - Waddle and Phillips look good going forward). Interested to see where Flores ends up, he'd be best going somewhere with an established QB and offense, but I'm not sure which of the current openings that would be (Minnesota if they keep Cousins?).

You shouldn't be blowing 1st round picks. Waddle was basically can't miss and a top 10 pick. GMs get no credit from me for not whiffing on top 10 selections especially when they did the year prior with Tua over Herbert. Their early O line picks haven't looked good. Flores should get another job soon, but who knows.

Yeah, no doubt we could use another Edge rusher even if Oweh is a beast because you can't have enough of those guys and we've never had two elite bookend rushers. The closest we ever came was maybe Suggs & Dumervil. Stephens has been surprisingly good but I also just am not sure there because yeah he and Clark are serviceable back there but so many question marks with them both too. It's really true that we could literally hit any position on defense. We're either too old or not good enough or injuries showed we're not good enough at various spots.

and note that the year we had sizzle and doom at either end of the LoS (we also had McPhee too) we led the league in sacks and caused carnage up front

utterly ridiculous that they fired him
sure they missed the playoffs but they also just won 7 in a row and won 8 in 9 games with a Qb they're not sure about

it is unconscionable that flores lost his job before rhule did

he should be at the top of everyone else's HC list right now
I mean the biggest running joke in the league is that the Dolphins 7 game winning streak involved beating zero playoff teams, and they arguably beat one competent QB the entire time, which was Lamar, on a home short week. They beat a "who's who" of bad teams with bad QBs, including the Texans, Jets (twice), Giants, Panthers, and Saints.

They got beat by:
Josh Allen (twice... by a combined 50 points)
Derek Carr
Tom Brady
Ryan Tannehill
Matt Ryan
They also lost a neutral site game to the Jags

They beat the Patriots twice, of which one was week 1 against a rookie QB. That was the only real achievement of their season.

I don't think he should have gotten fired, but I'm extremely confident that if the Dolphins didn't massively upgrade their QB this offseason, he would be fired after next season, because they're not better than the Bills or Patriots and don't have an obvious path to make that leap either.

The worst thing is that we would
Probably have flores for one year then he off to get a hc job.
True, but that might be a SB winning move for that one year… I’m not sure even with a healthy roster that we can win a ring with winks defense, I feel the same about Roman’s offense, I just don’t know if he’s adaptable enough, Flores I think has a similar philosophy but he’s just intellectually on another level with the flexibility in his game plans

So basically dolphins win vs us dont count cause we were on a “ short week” and their first win vs pats dont count cause it was a “ rookie qb” first game.. ok gotcha

The most intriguing offseason choices are what we do with the CBs. Humphrey is obviously back, but who else?
- Peters. I see most of you think so. I hope he is, but I don't think he will be. With the Ravens history of constantly restructuring/extending contracts and when they did not do that this year with the cap crunch they went through, I think he's gone. If they were going to keep him, I think he would have been extended even while on IR.
- Averett. Might price himself out of here. I like what he's done while matched up with a receiver, but based on my eye test (not a film watcher so I might be wrong), I get the feeling he's been over-represented in the busts where someone has been left uncovered and two guys have gone for the same receiver. Maybe communications/scheme issues for hom? I'd like to keep him but if the price goes to 10-15M, then no. But if Peters is gone, then we might have to offer carte blanche here.
- Tavon. Surprised us by being healthy. Extend by one year to get the cap hit down would be perfect. I'm a big fan
- Jimmy. That ship seems to have sailed. Can probably not afford a roster spot when he is even more often injured than before. Bring to camp, release and resign at vet min when we get injuries?
- Westry. Low-round tender, but seems to be at least as fragile as Jimmy, so not worth a 2nd round tender. Interesting player, but I'm not sure he's more than yet another camp wonder. We'll see.

Who else is there of any significance? Seymour, Dorsey, Marshall don't really matter what they do with
There are so many different ways the Ravens could decide on each of these, and I really don't know what I would do if I was GM. But we probably need to draft one in the 4th at the latest. Strange considering how loaded they looked at CB going into 2021. FAs are probably going to be really expensive and I don't expect the Ravens to get one there.

Yeah, but every GM blows first round picks from time to time. Sometimes the coaches get blamed for not developing players. Grier's been with Miami, in some capacity, since 2000 so he obviously has a lot of good will in the building.

Edit- since 2000 actually, was just a senior executive since 2007

How much success have they had during his tenure? I didn't even know he had been with the organization that long but it explains a lot now.

We should resign Peters

CB is a need regardless but why do you think Peters is gone? He just suffered an injury, doesn’t mean he’s finished. We were awful with turnovers without him. I think the lack of restructures was more about wanting to see how Peters recovers than extend someone who could be hurt and hurt our cap long term. We didn’t need the money and didn’t restructure anyone else. I just don’t see your point as being valid here, feels like a reach to me TBH.

I feel like Lamar wouldn't want to go into a contract year with a new OC.
Good point. I'm not sure Lamar cares either way, and even if he did want Roman fired, he wouldn't openly say it lol. He answered that in the best way he possibly could
