So basically dolphins win vs us dont count cause we were on a “ short week” and their first win vs pats dont count cause it was a “ rookie qb” first game.. ok gotcha
Oh no they count. They're just not super impressive wins. What are particularly impressive about them?
Their most impressive win, easily, was yesterday.
The Dolphins check every single possible box imaginable for the textbook definition of a mediocre football team.
They played 9 games against teams with winning records, and they went 3-6 in those games. One was against a rookie QB playing his first game, the other was against the Saints, who have no QB on the roster. And in 5 of those 6 losses, they lost by double digits.

They went 6-2 against sub-.500 teams.

That's why they're out of the playoffs.

CB is a need regardless but why do you think Peters is gone? He just suffered an injury, doesn’t mean he’s finished. We were awful with turnovers without him. I think the lack of restructures was more about wanting to see how Peters recovers than extend someone who could be hurt and hurt our cap long term. We didn’t need the money and didn’t restructure anyone else. I just don’t see your point as being valid here, feels like a reach to me TBH.

Again, *I* want to keep him, I just get the feeling the Raven's won't.
It might be as you say that they're waiting on the injury, but it seems rare that a high-priced Raven gets to the end of their second-to-last contract year without being extended unless that are about to be cut. Also, the rumored attempted move for Howard before the trade deadline seems a bit fishy in this context. That might of course be media rumors and since it didn't succeed, it might have changed the picture. I just get the (completely unsubstantiated) feeling that the front office isn't as high on Peters as we fans are. Hoping I'm wrong and they extend him tomorrow.

Any news on Roman?
Not yet. We probably won't hear anything unless someone straight up asks Harbs. Surprised no one didn't after the game yesterday

I've been thinking all year that he's either getting extended or cut. The CB market isn't great (and I'm sure MP knows it), so he probably isn't going to take an extension that has a pay cut.

No worries. I can understand you taking the stance of what you think vs. what you want. I'm just trying to see your POV. I'm not seeing it, personally. Nothing personal here, I just like to understand different POVs so trying to understand your view because it's a narrative I've heard quite a bit and never asked on until now. I feel like we have definitely let guys go into their final year though? My guess is still the "wait and see" on the injury recovery. We've been burned a lot with second contract extensions and guys getting injured.

Agree. The pick is either DL, Edge, DB or OL. Take the best one at any of those positions and keep it moving. Possibly trade down depending on what's available, but shouldn't be too tough.
really need to do best player available based on need and certain positions have a higher grade. That being said we can go anyone of the positions you mention and get a pretty darn good pick at our spot in the draft.

MP won't have a pay cut. Definitely going to get an extension that will be good for both MP and the team. Guarantees are most important for the player.

Yep, we'll see what happens. I just got a bit of a strange vibe off the attempted Howard trade. There you have Peters, one of the best CBs in the league and you try to get another one where you have to take on his massive contract + trade away significant draft capital with the end result of having to cut Peters. So if that was true, the Ravens were basically saying "Howard is better than Peters + some high draft picks" (then assuming there is absolutely no way to keep three CBs at 15M+). I don't agree with that, but it is what you can draw from that attempt.

The prospect of having Howard and Peters together and Marlo floating around on defense excites me.

be right back, going to the bathroom

No one thinks dolphins are a great team. Just saying they did well enough for flores not to get fired. You trying to discredit their wins vs two playoff teams doesnt make the firing a good decision

What specifically did he do to keep his job? Like I've not yet see anybody list me the things he did that warrants him being a HC of an NFL team.

He's 24-25 in three years. He's 19-17 the last two years. He has zero playoff appearances in three years. He had inarguably a better roster of players this year than he had in the previous year, and his record as a coach got worse. He butted heads with the GM, he butted heads with the franchise QB who the team traded up to acquire. You won't be able to find me many, if any, examples of HC's coming out victorious in that power struggle.

In a league full of excellence, he's anything but that. Smart Owners and GM's realize that the longer you tolerate mediocrity, the longer you'll be mediocre.

Matt Nagy got four years, with a FAR less talented roster of players, and he achieved more than Flores did. And he is universally hated by everybody and nobody was pounding the table for him to retain his job.

I wouldn't have fired him, but if I did, I'd fire the GM too. I don't think that franchise is or was going anywhere either either the HC or the GM they have.

Notice how you don't hear a peep about Roman being linked to a HC job. Leslie Frazier is interviewing for the Bears HC position lol

I tend to agree with that you're saying but the fact of the matter is most of what you said albeit insightful doesn't matter. At the end of the day, they didn't like him. As you said, he wasn't getting along with some of his players or the GM. The HC is the bridge between the two and very important. If he wasn't right for the culture, it may not even matter if he was winning because a terrible culture will always crumble and it does not take long. He just isn't there guy. Doesn't mean in any way he's not the perfect guy for someone else. There are far worse.

i mean from the way they had him on the sidelines the last 2 games and the way they talk and think about him in the building i'd say that he's at least somewhat in their future plans

and i wouldnt read anything into a mid-season extension for a player who still had a year left on their deal - especially with how tight against the cap we've been since july - there's a reason we didnt do lamar's deal mid-season or after july (literally wouldnt be able to deal with the signing bonus affect on our cap because we had so little space)

if we'd acquired howard then maybe we're having a different discussion sure - but we also didn't manage to acquire howard so it's kind of a moot point
