omg lol im only just realising that derek stingley's in this draft class lol
I was watching that preseason game where Derek Stingley was paralyzed, back in 1978. It was a clean hit by Tatum, but for him never to visit him in the hospital or even call him was a darn shame.

To my cfb guys or film junkies, what’s your thoughts on Dax Hill? The cut ups I’ve seen of him look legit but seems to mostly play from the slot. Although, if he can play deep with the same instincts he would definitely fit Winks defense as his flexibility would be a huge plus.

Unlike most years I’ve already began to shift to off-season mode a bit early as I just don’t see us making the playoffs with our depleted roster.
he can play inside and out, doesn't seem to have top end speed but is a very good player. I doubt he's best player available where we are picking unless we trade down but I love his traits.

What names are out there that can be a possible target for FS? All I know are Hamilton and Dax Hill. Need to know more names so I can look them up.

maybe jordan battle???
i dont know much about this safety class yet

but general trend in college (and the NFL) is that pure free safeties dont really play that way as much anymore so if you're looking for that specific skillset it's really hard to find - there were maybe only 4 guys in the entire safety class with the range and skill to play that stereotypical single-high FS role and 1 of them didnt really get used that way in college (jevon holland), 1 of them sucked (andre cisco) and the other 2 played a lot of nickel and split safety (richie grant and trevon moehrig)

college and nfl defences play so much split safety and cover 2, cover 3 and cover 4 that you rarely get to see that single high skillset (especially in college)

Kolby harvell-peel, Isaiah pola-mao and markquese bell are intriguing late draft prospects that I’ve seen

Jordan Battle from Alabama. Really versatile S capable of hanging back and making plays on the ball in the air, as well as being an enforcer that steps up and stops a runner in his tracks. I really love his size and range, plus he's one of the best tacklers you'll see among DBs in this draft.

Well I guess Jordan Battle is out, that was a bit of a surprise!

I've been thinking how I'd react if a CB is the BPA at #14 and I might be in team trade back. It's not as strong of a feeling as it would be if that player was say a WR, but (at least for the moment) we've got Marlon, Peters and Tavon under contract next year. Feel that room is more in need of mid-round quality depth.

Peters might just be around for one more year, and Young honestly wasn't that good last year. An upgrade over Young, and eventual replacement to Peters would be worth a first if the guy is good enough. Also our secondary is awful at creating interceptions aside from Peters. Someone like Ahmad Gardner would really give us a chance at more turnovers.

Peters coming back will make all the DBs better. And I think due to all of the injuries Tavon was asked to do more than his skillset allows, so not so much "wasn't that good". Can't see him not being here next year.

My view may be skewed here because I think the team's #1 draft priority should be O line, and only O line. Also, Tavon grew up a couple of streets over from where I live so he's a personal favorite. :-)

it looks to me like there's only 3 CBs who even have a chance at being BPA at 14 and im not even sure all 3 will be in the top 14 on the board anyway and 1 of them (and maybe 2) are definitely gone before we pick otherwise it's a no brainer

this hypothetical basically comes down to how much we (and the ravens) like Sauce Gardner

I have a hard time believing they won't extend Peters, but Tavon Young is the tough one. He played much better in the slot and I'm discounting the first few games when he just needed to get his feet wet again. It's not like we have another SCB on the roster outside of Humphrey and tbh, I'd rather keep Humphrey on the boundary. We would need to sign someone as a slot cb if we cut Tavon and I feel it's much better if we can get him to restructure his contract to benefit the team. Not saying he would do it, but it's possible. Could also cut him and let him see what's available and then resign him for a reduced contract.

so i like a lot about roger mccreary but im not convinced by his long-speed or his burst

he's got great technique in press, aligns inside and outside, was great against the best receivers in the SEC, smooth pedal, fluid hips, good eye-discipline, sometimes gives up leverage too easily

but it feels like sometimes his feet just get stuck in the ground and while he often recovers with his ability to read and play the hands of the receivers, there's quite a few times where it feels like he's having to recover

he's clearly agile, got great feet and loose hips and plays pretty physically - but that will be my big question for him and it probably wont get answered definitively until the combine

i like him a lot but not sure i could spend a 1st round pick on him with those athletic question marks

I'd like to see Daxton Hill drafted if we are in position to draft him in the second round, although I could see him moving up draft boards. His older brother is already on the team, Justice Hill, unless he is cut.

anyone found any tape of Jaquan Brisker where you can actually see him on the tape yet?

really struggling to find more than a few plays where i can see him in anything other than underneath zones and in the run game (where he's pretty good lol)

anyone seen enough of him to have any thoughts on him either? to me he looks crazy athletic but maybe a bit stiff when flipping his hips and changing direction

Seems like the general consensus around here lol

What are your observations? Agree with Joey’s from the first page of this thread?

i think he can play basically everywhere you want on the back-end - ive seen him lined up at WLB, nickel, split-safety, single-high, outside corner

he consistently shows high levels of intelligence and awareness with pre-snap recognition, in-play recognition and feel and awareness and you see him communicating both pre and post-snap generally leading that secondary - ive even seen him baiting QBs into throws to make plays on the ball - his hips and footwork and general athleticism is exceptional and he has amazing range - when he breaks on the ball it's lightning - physical coming downhill - saw him attack a puller with perfect technique and close the gap and seems to be a good tackler - will run the alley

very few negatives for me
- on a couple of occasions he opened his hips up too early when in man coverage - i think it's because he gets over-aggressive at the LoS and his pedal is a little choppy so his feet can get stuck in the ground for a moment and it means he can over-react to jabs and stuff like that at the break sometimes (not frequent) - mostly he was able to get back into the play with his recovery speed and closing ability (closes space so effectively)
- the only physical downside seems to be a bit of a lack of length

but to me he looks like an NFL safety - versatile and effective in multiple spots - i think if he came in we'd see a lot of 3 safety sets with Stephens continuing to play a lot of that high safety role with Hill as the other high safety when playing split and allowing chuck to be closer to the LoS

he's probably my favourite prospect (that i wasnt expecting to love like i was ekwonu and neal) - he's a great fit in the ravens defence too - looks like a future green dot kind of guy
