2022 General Draft Thoughts

Currently trying to watch Devonte Wyatt film but it's difficult because, through no fault of his own, I keep getting distracted by the incredible talents in that front 7 lol - jordan davis, travon walker, nakobe dean and non-draft-eligible guys like Jalen Carter too

just the athleticism of those 4 guys in particular pops off the screen and makes it impossible not to notice them

i havent done any study of many of the top top prospects yet because im focussing on the senior bowl guys but it's nice to remember what a top prospect looks like and how they force you to notice them on a down-to-down basis - like jordan davis is unstoppably powerful and fast, travon walker has no right to move the way he does and nakobe dean flies all over the field

Could stingley fall outside top 10? I know he was injured and had foot surgery…however, he did have the best rookie season ive ever seen as a cb and it was against top tier wrs..the mf really looked like revis

It he does fall to us I can’t pass him up at all despite needing OL and DL. CB is just as big of a need and having a ton of CBs and stoping Chase and co will be important for us. The deeper teams like KC and CIN get at WR the more important it becomes.

If you get someone like Stingley at CB you have an on paper elite CB corps. If you shore up the DL by adding a 2nd or 3rd round prospect there who drops then you have a little youth and if you bring back Campbell and have Wolfe recover and Justin in the rotation that should be solid enough. TBH edge is a little less valuable here compared to other teams not saying it’s not a need. If we keep Wink it should be a no brainer

i dont think he falls - he's that good
but if he did fall then obviously he's the guy you pick - based on the stuff ive seen so far from top prospects id say stingley's in with a chance of being 1st on the board (not 1st actually taken but might be the best player in the draft with the highest grade for me)

idk that i agree with that - EDGE is clearly super important to this defence... just because we dont get the same sack production out of those guys doesnt mean they are somehow less important here - i think part of what we saw this year (and since sizzle and ZDS left really) is just how important the personnel at EDGE really is to our ability to finish and get sacks - we all were critical of judon for only winning or getting sacks in optimal or easier circumstances - but the thing about judon was that he was great at working within the scheme to achieve our goals - he would take advantage of that 1v1 matchup he got vs a TE and it was even better when we had 3 legit NFL EDGE guys on the team at once in this wink defence in 2018 too (albeit we still got mad at ZDS for not finishing sacks)

think it's clear to me that EDGE is hugely valuable here even though it's less likely to put up gaudy sack numbers - unfortunately right now we have a defence that engineers favourable matchups in the pass rush but doesnt have players who consistently win those matchups - oweh showed a ton of promise and flashes but is by no means dominant or consistent yet, bowser's not that guy (and never will be - that's not his game), Hayes is a 5th round pick coming off a long season and is more of a fit as a bowser backup type player

and the other benefit is it means that against the better QBs who handle the blitz well (and there's now a few of those guys in the league and especially in the AFC) like Mahomes, Burrow, Rodgers, Brady etc. we can create pressure with 4 which is a QB's nightmare

During his freshman year i did a little research and remember seeing some where that a coach said he couldve went pro straight outta highschool.. it was funny at first but now i think about it, he only played like 12 games in college

there's some guys that really genuinely are ready straight out of high school
i know that a load of folks said AP could have and should have if he was allowed to but had to play college for the appropriate number of years first to become eligible

Yeah I’m not saying Edge isn’t important. I just said it’s a little less valuable not that it’s not important. I’ve been asking for Edge every year practically. I wanted Watt over Humphrey and have said that for years. It isn’t that Humphrey is bad but I just really had high grades on TJ. I say that to say that I personally agree that Edge is important but for sacks it’s not necessarily critical as it is pressure. For a defence that had major problems covering guys like Chase of whom we will see often I think there’s more value to CB and a stud interior DL than Edge but I’ll never pass on an elite talent there. Edge may be the biggest weakness on the team, even said as much recently since we have just a bag of chips there and Oweh.

But if you’re telling me you’ll give me Stingley and a very good interior DL vs an upside Edge I’d go the former vs the latter but wouldn’t be upset with the latter either. We need it all man

That is the rub with him; elite talent but his availability is a legit question mark. Massive gamble but could be massive if it pays off for you.

The Draft order is almost updated through the Wild Card Round. The Eagles will have three picks inside the Top 20 as they pick 15th and 16th thanks to the picks from Miami & Indianapolis. Their original pick is now the 19th overall pick with the Pittsburgh Steelers having the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The one good thing about Pittsburgh making the playoffs is they should be down enough in the order so no QB reaches them the way Mac Jones fell to the Patriots last year.

I dunno about that, it's a really weak QB class, could easily be a guy or two when they're picking if that's the way they want to go.

yeah and i think most of us are basically on the same page here - BPA is going to fill a need for us at basically any position it might come so no reason not to go BPA and just take a great player who hopefully falls to us be that at DL, EDGE, CB, S or OL
