and it wont - no matter what anyone thinks of our coaching staff, our front office has always been sensible, forward thinking and well organised and consistently has kept this team competitive in all circumstances (now obviously they could improve because we've been less competitive the last few years but we've still been in the mix despite numerous injuries and some significant players under performing)

there's no way that scheme holds this front office to ransom - and tbh im not sure that drafting jackson necessarily takes harbs out of the equation if we under perform - if anything it might buy him some time if come next offseason we commit to creating a system around him and adding tools

if im harbs and it looks like we might go jackson or that jackson might be the best player there i absolutely attach myself to that pick and turn jackson into my guy so that i can tie my future at the organisation to this guy and therefore even if we underperform you create the dynamic that means you are part of the change the organisation wants to go through

i think if the offence/team underperforms marty's gone but if jackson is the pick im not sure that harbs is gone - i have a sneaking suspicion that the jackson pick could buy harbs extra time as long as he's 100% supportive of the pick in the war room and behind the scenes
note that I was talking about the scheme, and I said harbs would be gone IF he stands by Marty.

I wonder what would SB do in case of another failure to make it to the playoffs - keep Flacco or keep Harbaugh?
Just don't see him getting rid of both.

i think that will depend on whether we have a qb successor in the building, and what flacco's general level of play was through the year - but you're right i dont see us getting rid of both albeit if we kept flacco it might only be for one extra year

NFL Mobile has a video up of Ian Rapoport talking places for Dez, definitely seems like he thinks the Ravens are a strong candidate for him

tbf im just not sure there are many alternative viable options...

ravens make sense, packers make some sense but not a huge amount of sense, redskins only make sense if he's dead set on staying in the NFC east

rapsheet mentioned 3 teams that were bandied about that he hadnt heard anything about but the clip starts after the mentioning of those teams so the only one we know by name is the bills

the saints could make sense but it would be weird to give guaranteed money to meredith, have michael thomas already and then also pick up dez unless they want dez to be their pseudo-tight-end

im scanning every team's wr depth:

here are some possibilities
  1. ravens
  2. bills (already ruled out by rapsheet)
  3. colts
  4. if im honest if he hadnt just come from the cowboys they look like the roster that needs him most but those bridges have been burnt
  5. packers (id suggest that they need to get younger not older at receiver otherwise they might as well have kept jordy and theyve already signed graham at tight end too)
  6. falcons (no cap space)
  7. panthers (no cap space)
  8. cardinals (maybe - not really though)

so only really 2 teams that make sense from a need standpoint with feasibility - ravens and colts, plus the saints but they just signed meredith..., plus the redskins (but only if bryant is committed to the nfc east)

so if dez really is open minded then its likely a fight between the ravens and colts for his services

Im getting too hype about this. This is like possibly getting Boldin back for Flacco....even if Dez isnt as good as he once was, hes as good once as he every was. Give him a 3 year deal like Crabtree if he'll take it. I wouldnt give him more than $8M per year though....

Don't think the Niners want Dez. Feel like they're trying to get younger, but who knows. And Sherman is different. I'd say he has more in the tank at a bigger position of need, with knowledge of the division.

To be honest if the Ravens landed Dez I think the Ravens have a very aggressive offense. Dez and Crabtree bring the physical presence and Brown brings speed. Collins with a burst in the middle and if the Ravens land one of the top 3-4 TE in the draft in the 2nd or 3rd rounds... That would be really dangerous. Unfortunately since Dez and Crabtree are over 30 it wouldn't be a long term fix but that is still something that would bring fans to M&T Bank Stadium.

We are going to need another speed option even with Brown due to injuries even if we land Dez. I do think Dez is likely to have a career turnaround wherever he goes but we need more speed on the offense with Dez and Crabtree. The only think I'm slightly worried about

Wouldn't we have enough speed with Perriman and Moore also on the roster as of now?

more like quickness/route running than pure speed - a receiver who can use good route running or short area burst to leverage their way open out of the slot or take the top off the defence while also being a consistent threat underneath

if we were to get dez and then in the draft got one of the top 5 tight ends and a christian kirk/anthony miller then our offence would be more stacked at receiver than i can remember

obviously that requires dez though

All this hype about dez, how can we make it work salary cap wise? I’m going to cry if we do another joe flacco restructure.

I did not mind that we replaced Mallet for RG3. He could possibly be used as a trick play option where Mallet was a stick figure behind the line.
