The Murphy's Law, The Ugly and The Uglier

That was ugly. But everyone has off days. Short week after an OT game. We're better than that, just not as good as we've become used to over the past 3 years. On to the next week.

Yeah it's because they're relying on explosive physical traits, flexibility and agility that puts strain on joints and ligaments in a way that doesn't happen so much with the raw brute strength that the OL use. They just need the parts of the body that fall to aging faster than any others. I...

    Lamar Jackson

And the Broncos showed us what happens when you just throw any old receiver back there last year. Forget the poor guy's name.

    Lamar Jackson

Yeah the NFL struggled to fill the league with 32 unathletic pocket passers so it seems like a stretch to suggest that we'll find plenty of Lamar Jacksons.

Kind of backing up this point, I was amazed to learn the other day that Freeman is only 29. I thought he was like 33.

Baseball is boring on TV but great at the stadium with friends. So it might just be that I like drinking outside for 5 hours :D

Difficult confession as an English man: cricket is boring as hell. Baseball is better.

    Lamar Jackson

I get it and I think you're right, but "games with 200 passing yards and 75 rushing yards" is arbitrary as hell. And it's not just these Lamar stats; so often in NFL analysis I see these weird, caveat-laden stats designed to either slate or pump up players based solely on what the author wants...

All sports - that's the point. You can include football, baseball and all those other sports that aren't really played outside of the USA too. The USA would dominate any sport they put their mind to with their blend of population size and finances. But the generational guys who are just genetic...

I agree (without checking the claim but whatever) that the USA produces more top athletes than any other nation. But the majority of top athletes of all time are still not American. That's all.

I don't think anyone is arguing that the USA isn't one of the most successful countries in athletics, given that it has the largest population of the wealthy nations. But the claim was "rest of the world", in which case the USA obviously lose out big time in the medals table.

I went back to check what a freak he really was... 6'5" 265 lbs. Ran a 10.7 second 100m, which gives an estimated 40 time of about 4.24 - 4.3 seconds according to Bleacher report. Unreal.

I would be all for an advanced metric that grades plays based on how many lbs were open lol

Just so I'm clear, your position is that the USA has produced such a large proportion of the best athletes in history that the rest of the world is barely worth mentioning..?

    Lamar Jackson

He's impressive for sure but the NFL really does have a cottage industry in useless or badly contrived statistics!

Got to mention guys like Tendulkar too. Then in other sports, have to have Messi and Ronaldo on the GOAT list (if you read the Ballon D'Or winners since 2006, you'll immediately understand). In rugby, guys like Jonah Lomu made opponents look like small children for a decade. I didn't realise he...

Hey remember before the season when PFF didn't include Lamar on their list of the 50 best players in the NFL? How's that holding up?

So did Freeman do enough to take the lead of the committee even with Murray back do we think?
