putting myself in erics shoes, staying put as i dont wanna predict trades, making the picks that i think seem like decosta picks.
ROUND 1:
Lots of smoke here and i think come draft night, there will be fire. as much as i like kelvin harmon and JJAW as guys who could dominate the boundary in consistent 1v1 situations with all the safety help being inside, i think even more important is addressing the gaping hole on the interior OL. this is, and with lamar at the helm always will be a run first team, and if we want this new offense to go ANYWHERE the line needs a massive upgrade in at least one spot. McCoy doesnt have the raw power of an elgton jenkins, he isnt the stellar athlete and mad scientist that garrett bradbury is, but what he does bring is safety, this is just a flat out safe pick, i personally like both of the aforementioned guys more, but this feels like a ravens pick and those guys just dont. McCoy is our day one starting center and our team gets a shitton better by not having an absolute meme starting at maybe the most crucial position on the OL, and frankly, having a pretty damn good and well rounded one bringing that upgrade. 3 year starter, consistently excellent throughout, field general material, stellar pass blocker, solid positional run blocker and pretty damn good on mobile blocks, lamar will love this pick and so will greg roman.
ROUND 3: with lots of edge rushers and DTs taken in the first and early second, the run on WRs, RBs, IOL, and DBs begins, causing talents at the 2 deepest positions to fall
Here is the big tumbler when the draft comes. Jachai Polite was already tough for teams to get a grasp on, he has ridiculous explosion, bend, and finishes as well as anyone, but is horrid as a run defender and really only has value as a pure designated edge rusher, but man is he gifted in that one area. Add all of that to the fact that he absolutely BOMBED the combine and you have a prospect primed to take a massive fall. This shouldnt even be considered a bold prediction, we see falls much crazier than this every year for seemingly no reason, but every time an incomplete prospect who was teetering on late R1 and early R2 such as polite absolutely tanks the combine, they take a huge fall, it never fails. So, in the season where we lose sizzle, Tim Williams will get his chance, and he will shine, Willie Henry will shine, Michael Pierce will continue to shine, and Jachai Polite will not get the dean pees treatment, he will be given rush snaps, and he will be a weapon, he is just dripping with legitimate NFL edge rush talent.
Trysten Hill, DT, UCF
still generating no buzz, still an absolute freak of an athlete, still a straight up beast of a DT. With Lamar Jackson at QB you gotta Git Gud in the trenches, but on BOTH sides. if this team isnt playing defense its not going anywhere, and we lost a lot of guys, still having the best secondary in the league it is imperative that we stock up on young and explosive talent up front, these are value picks at the strength of the class and the value is dogshit on offense here, so jachai polite and trysten hill in an absolutely stacked DL and edge class easily fall to the third, and the ravens defense is ready to HUNT.
ROUND 4: offensive value begins to become a reality here.
the caption says deep threat, but dont get it twisted... antoine wesley is a legitimate receiver, and not just a specialist in any way. He is one of the better big bodied route runners in the class, maybe even the best, hes got a lot of size and length but he is a sharp and sudden route runner with all the extra nuances you wanna see from an NFL prospect, he will be able to manipulate NFL DBs with the way he moves. His speed scares nobody, but im not concerned, if you wanna send him deep, double moves and deep posts, hes got the tools to work the shit outta those, he catches very well, hes no kelvin harmon or JJAW but hes far from a slouch there, he can go up and get it, he can adjust midair and make some acrobatic catches, he can fight for the ball, he can also secure a ball in traffic with ease and pluck one through contact. hes a well rounded receiver lacking speed and is criminally slept on.
Phil Haynes, G, Wake Forest
if you havent watched him, then go ahead and watch him. hes a spacemaker, an absolute bully, low pad level and forward lean, drives from the lower body upward, puts guys on skates consistently with pretty excellent power blocking form. sturdy anchor in pass pro and just average feet. this is one of a few names ive stumbled upon recently that ive ended up impressed with, more of those coming in the later picks lol
ROUND 5:
absurdly high grade from pff and his qb simply didnt look his way often enough, his production could have been even higher. from what ive seen, this guy has elite feet, elite burst, very quality routes with plenty of room to develop into elite, excellent deep threat who absolutely owns press coverage, tracks well over the shoulder and squeezes down the sideline well, good elusiveness after the catch, just a really slept on player. before the catch he reminds me a little bit of calvin ridley actually with the incredible agility and burst he runs his routes with. cant for the life of me understand why hes so slept on.
ROUND 6:
Reggie White Jr. WR, Monmouth
ravens had a private workout with this guy, so i checked the tape and liked what i saw, he was an excellent big bodied deep threat with steller ball tracking, ball attacking, and hands, along with just being a big powerful guy who just looks like a man among boys when hes playing these small school guys. if youre a small school prospect you need to be absolutely dominating everyone on the field, and thats exactly what he did. he was practically unstoppable any time the qb just wanted to hang it up there for him. the ravens had a private workout with him and it was a short list, they must see something they really like.
ill add the final pick later lol something just came up
