he did say that and I don't have his snap count from 2020, which was his freshmen year, but I do know in 2020 he only played in 5 games and there were no starts. Maybe those were at left tackle.

I don't know how big or low of a chance it is but honestly it might be wise to bring him back. He had a down year compared to his 2023 season but could possibly play free safety for the team and at a solid level. He also obviously he can pay free outside and nickel corner . That's alot of versatility for a player that may have a bounce back year on a cheap deal and may fair better with a guy like Chuck Pagano coaching him.

Think they might revisit if he sits on the market for a long time and you can just bring him back as minimum depth. But the end of season presser said what I think they wanted to say - thank you for your service, here's a quick blurb on why you're a good player, now go out and get a contract that factors into the comp pick formula.

That blockage is being switched from safety to corner and back and forth. Snip snap snip snap
He was always supposed to be a safety ITL. These issues were apparent on his college tape. He has always been a better player with the play infront of him.
Guaranteed there’s gonna be another year where he looks like a superstar and we’re all mad we let him go. And then he turns around the next year and plays like shit again.

They'd drop to zero. L'Jarius Snead went from a late round pick to a star CB in the Land of No Flags back to a late round corner on Tennessee under the normal rules. Stephens might make all-pro if he's allowed to crash into WRs at the catch point with impunity.
That would be a really smart move for both sides. I hope they don't think of it.

I still think there were issues outside of football that was affecting his play and feel we may never know what it was unless he comes out and says it.
I wonder if he was injured at all
