Better yet, trade him to us.
If I were running the Browns I would do that because I think it would be smart football. The Ravens time to win is now and the Browns time to win is in 3-4 years.

The teams are on different timetables. Therefore weakening a division rival 3-4 years from now (by taking a pick) at the cost of making them stronger when you are not contending is smart football.

I mean if they drafted Ward or Sanders, and they're even above average in their rookie year, then the Browns are, at a minimum, a playoff contender in 2025.

Not that the Raven would ever make such a trade, but I will never forgive Garret for the helmet assault and would be massively pissed of if he were ever to come near us. That incident really made me question if I should be following this sport.

Not even close especially if they trade away Garrett. Even if we pretend two of the weaker top QB prospects in recent memory (that will go in top 10) pan out, they don’t really have much on offense and they lack the cap space to build one.

Meanwhile, their defense is borderline top 10 but it’s losing a top 5 defender so they will also take a step back.

The funny thing is both Garrett and the Browns know this. It is why he wants out. Garrett doesn’t want to be in a rebuild, and clearly when the two sides met the Browns either admitted they were rebuilding or couldn’t explain why it isn’t a rebuild.

So this is why I think it could happen, albeit very unlikely.

I also think it is more than just "If in division then no"

Ravens have also traded within the division before & so has the division.

Lions could certainly make a play for Garrett, and he would be insane on that team. I could also see the Rams do it, who are notorious for trading for players over prospects.

Then the city of Cleveland stews in misery as we hoist a third Lombardi with what they see as their franchise, this time with their homegrown pass rusher

Plenty of talent on offense. Their passing stats were on par with several playoff teams this season alone, and that's with a rotation of shitty QBs.

My point was they're a contender with a QB upgrade if they keep Garrett. A lot of people make a lot of trade requests and not only don't get traded away, but end up signing lucrative, long-term extensions with the team they asked to be traded from. There's plenty of scenarios where this is just a pure leverage play to get a revised contract, given that he's due less than $20M this year and only $25M next year and none of it is gtd $.

Cap space isn't going to be a problem for another 2-3 years. They'll continue to do close-to max restructures on Watson until he takes the big hit in 2027 and they'll be done with it, and they have plenty of other restructures on large contracts they can do (Conklin and Ward, for sure) to clear a bunch of space. They can clear $40-50M or more just from those three guys if they want to.

In the end, it really doesn't matter that much, because if you hit the QB, it's all gravy. Denver was a playoff team this year with huge dead $ hits for a bunch of guys and a rookie QB. The AFC is top heavy but very light at the bottom and in the middle.

I don't think its a fear of trading in the division per-say, as much as it is trading high-end talent within the division. They wouldn't even take our phone call for ZaDarius Smith.
