Some players probably just dont care because they see the millions tbh but i can assure you that you will come out better with a 100 million dollar contract playing majority of your games in Fla/texas and tenn than playing in NY or Cali.
Sure, but its not driving career decisions. The guy who signs with the Cowboys is still going to end up paying income tax in NY, and CA, and a bunch of other states. On probably something like 50% of their earnings, depending on the frequency. It MAY be advantageous for bonuses, but a lot of states have baked into the "jock tax" a lot of strongholds to prevent people from dodging taxes in those states.

The REAL "loophole" in Pro Sports is MLB. They do a shit ton of deferred contracts, where players don't see the $ from their deals until many years, and sometimes decades, later. A guy like Ohtani, who signs a gigantic contract in LA, took a shit ton of deferred $. To the point that when he actually sees that $, its unlikely he'll even be in living in CA anymore, which means it won't be subject to CA income tax. He may not even be living in the U.S. at all at that point.

Texas, tenn and fla has no jock tax. All three of them play in same division. Thats atleast 10 games a year where their game checks look a lot better than everyone else when it comes to taxes..

Yea MLB is 5x better all around when it comes to being paid. However, wouldnt he still be taxed by cali since he is being paid by a business thats located in cali? Dont know how foreign laws work but if he moved to texas and is being paid by cali, he still gets taxed according to cali tax rates correct? I mean he may get a little deferred because he no longer reside there but i thought regardless of where you live in the US, you will get taxed at the rate of which the business is located

49ers are allowing Deebo to seek a trade... new team takes on $17.5M while 49ers are willing to eat $31M in dead cap.

Jets are moving on from Rodgers with a fresh start next season. So... Rodgers to the Vikings to complete his Brett Favre arc?

So discount? Maybe, but a small one. Like maybe a million a year less or something like that, and the gtd $ would have to be pretty close.
2024 was the paycut year. He took a pretty massive one less than 12 months ago. I don't think he'll be doing that again.

I honestly struggle to identify what type of contract I think he'll get, but I'll be surprised if its less than $20M a year, and likely at least 2-3 years. So from an AAV perspective, I think it'll be at least the amount he signed for in 2020.

Dawkins and Decker both signed 3/$60M in the last twelve months, with about 50% guaranteed. They're in similar age and I'd argue productivity range as Stanley, so I think that's the floor.
I think Stanley will be looking at something similar to Garrett Bolles. Maybe a couple million less annually, but I don't think the Ravens will give him longer than 3 years.

I agree. I just have some doubts that the Ravens are going to value him at $20M AAV like I think some teams on the market will. But like everybody else I have no idea what the Ravens "price" for Stanley is. I think 3/60 with something around 35-40M guaranteed makes perfect sense for all parties, but I have doubts the Ravens are willing to pay that.

And while I think there will be no shortage of suitors, there's a certain team that just played yesterday that I think would make a shit ton of sense as a team that would aggressively go after Stanley as a FA. Especially if they miss out on Trey Smith.

Yeah, I could see them go after Stanley as well.

Calculated move. If we let him go to KC and he gets injured like he’s been SO often, it would weaken them significantly. Or he stays healthy and fixes a big problem of theirs for 2-3 years and Lamar gets murked in the pocket

I think everyone knows his price is gonna be a little high. Only 30yrs old and coming off a great year. If he resigns here, its gonna most certainly be at a discount/pay cut. I really dont think we can afford to lose him.. i dnt believe its worth the risk of having a terrible oline that already needs guards.

Yeah.. we’re kind of in a tough spots with Ronnie. Tbh, if I was him… I know this is probably my last big pay day. I would test free agency and get as much as I can. Especially after going thru that injury and seeing how 1 play can take it all away. I don’t see Ronnie as a guy who’s gonna take a team discount to stay.

Agreed! Im not really for players being ask to take a discount but if he does decide to do it,
more power to him. How much do you think he would be worth in market?

If there was an OT available in free agency who PFF had as 20th pass grade andd 40th run grade out of 60-ish qualifying OTs, would you offer him 20M+ in AAV?

...what if that player is Ronnie Stanley in 2024?

If the league was uncapped, extending him is a sure thing. With the cap, you really have to consider if you are going to pay top dollars for someone who was absolutely league average this year. I would let him test the market and only sign him if the value is there in the end

According to Spotrac, it's not pretty (for the Ravens)

PFF was always shit grading O line.
Ronnie is in the top half of the top half of LTs.

Do you have any source or stats that back up that he would be upper quartile?

Pff says average
McKusick gave him a C for the season - average
The sportrac link you provided above had pretty bad stats for Stanley as well

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but then I want hard stats or some reputable sources backing your opinion
