NFL TV Ratings Discussion

Hall of Famer
The Chiefs-Chargers game was the final Thursday Night Football Game on Broadcast TV.... ever. No FOX, no CBS, not even NFL Network as Amazon Prime will be the only way to watch TNF starting in 2022. Chiefs-Chargers drew an average of 18M viewers across all platforms. I do understand Amazon wants to put NFL games on Prime to attract more subscribers but how many fans are going to pay for Amazon Prime just to really only watch it the last part of the year?

Then you are talking relying on people having good internet in order to make sure the stream works, and spending money on a smart TV if they don't have one already. Going to be interesting to see how this works out, think they needed at least to have the game shown on NFL Network for those without Prime.

Given it wasn't a blowout until later in the game, it's not a good start for the NFL ratings wise. Lowest viewership for Opening Night since Falcons/Eagles in 2018.

Thursday night’s season-opening blowout of the Rams by the Bills generated an average audience of just over 21 million viewers, according to Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal. That’s a drop of nearly 20 percent from last year’s viewership for the kickoff game between the Cowboys and Buccaneers, at 26 million.

Texans at Chiefs generated 21.6 million in 2020, and Packers at Bears drew 22.7 million in 2019.

Last night’s number is the lowest since 2018, when the Falcons and Eagles played before a TV audience of 19.6 million.
