Rossi's Big Board

With the draft a week away I've finished the board. I'll probably still tweak stuff from here on out but it's highly doubtful that there will be movements/changes that are significant.

Here is the link to the board:
BIG BOARD

Summary:
I have 198 draftable players on my big board excluding specialists - 96 defence and 102 offence.

The above document has all the players ranked on the board as well as each position ranked separately in a table. Note that all offensive linemen and all defensive linemen are grouped together partly due to the position versatility of a lot of the linemen. I was tempted to do the same for defensive backs as well but ultimately didn't feel the need to.

Everything is in the spreadsheet but I'll do a quick rundown of the top 5 at each separated position group below:

QB:
  1. Josh Rosen
  2. Lamar Jackson
  3. Baker Mayfield
  4. Sam Darnold
  5. Josh Allen
RB:
  1. Saquon Barkley
  2. Derrius Guice
  3. Sony Michel
  4. Ronald Jones
  5. Kerryon Johnson
H-Back/FB:
  1. Jaylen Samuels
  2. Dimitri Flowers
TE:
  1. Hayden Hurst
  2. Mike Gesicki
  3. Mark Andrews
  4. Dallas Goedert
  5. Ian Thomas
WR:
  1. Calvin Ridley
  2. DJ Moore
  3. Anthony Miller
  4. Christian Kirk
  5. Equanimeous St. Brown
OL:
  1. Quenton Nelson
  2. Mike Mcglinchey
  3. Isaiah Wynn
  4. Will Hernandez
  5. James Daniels
DL:
  1. Vita Vea
  2. Da'Ron Payne
  3. Maurice Hurst
  4. Taven Bryan
  5. Tim Settle
ILB:
  1. Tremaine Edmunds
  2. Roquan Smith
  3. Fred Warner
  4. Rashaan Evans
  5. Leighton Vander-Esch
EDGE:
  1. Bradley Chubb
  2. Marcus Davenport
  3. Harold Landry
  4. Arden Key
  5. Lorenzo Carter
S:
  1. Minkah Fitzpatrick
  2. Derwin James
  3. Justin Reid
  4. Ronnie Harrison
  5. Armani Watts
CB:
  1. Denzel Ward
  2. Jaire Alexander
  3. Josh Jackson
  4. Isaiah Oliver
  5. Mike Hughes

Obviously these are summaries and don't really show any bearing to the individual values or grades vs other players but just give a general overview of the specific position rankings (a TL;DR if you will).

Please do peruse the actual big board and let me know what you think.

Alright... thoughts/questions below:

  • QB: Lauletta... assuming the arm strength kept him down your board?
  • RB: Surprised to see Ballage so high. When I watched him, I thought he was just a guy. Just based on the names you have on your board, Ballage would probably be in my bottom 3 of that group.
  • WR: I suspect he's not on your board for character reasons, but where would you have Antonio Callaway ranked if you ignore the off-field?
  • WR2: Also surprised to see Lasley so high. Nice deep threat but those hands...
  • LB: I like seeing Malik Jefferson that low. Not really sure what people see in him to put him in that upper realm. Middle of the pack seems right.
  • S: Like Ballage, I thought Armani Watts was just a guy. Didn't see much impressive about his game.

I've never really done big boards because (1) I would never have enough time to get to that much tape and (2) so many guys have such little tape. I'd be really curious to see what other guys might make your list with just the general availability of tape to evaluate them, especially some of those small school guys.

Good work!

With Lauletta I've just never been convinced by what I'm seeing and yes arm strength comes into it but I never bought into him as a day 2 qb from the beginning and positionally he's only just below riley ferguson on my board (and i realise i'm a lot higher on ferguson than most) but yeah arm strength is a significant reason why he's so low - there's just no way (in my view) that lack of arm strength is going to be viable as an nfl starter (or even pinch starter) especially in the AFC North - he might be higher on my list if I could definitely know in advance he's going to a dome team... but again it would be marginal

ballage surprised me but he's a high ceiling guy and his skillset fits in well with what the ravens are missing at running back and fit did play into the board - and he's still a day 3 pick on the board (4th at best in terms of value) - i see him as a boom-bust guy who would be a fit in baltimore but he's in that nebulous region of the board where he tweaking might happen - for example im tempted to lift mark walton a few spots

calloway id heard about character concerns so left him until the end and looked into the character stuff before deciding whether to rank him and looked into it and saw he'd be off the board - so ive not watched any film beyond a couple of highlights - looks like a good player but ive not watched any of his film at all so im afraid i dont have a ranking

lasley, much like ballage, is in that nebulous region where ive flip-flopped over and over with the ordering - ive got 6 receivers ranked between spots 100 and 116 and they've all been in every conceivable order at many points - i guess at that point in the draft ive been disillusioned with something about all of those prospects: lasley, ateman, lazard, wilson, hamilton, tate - ive got worries about all of them and as of the publishing of this board i felt better about lasley as a supplementary receiver than the other 5 but its by no means a large margin

agree 100% on jefferson though - i kept seeing him high on boards and then got to the film and was like "is that it?"

armani watts is a guy i actually like and his high placement is a lot of projection - i love the way he reads the game and makes big plays on the football and plays the qb - we've been burned by bad tackling safeties before but my feelings on watts is that he goes after those big plays on the ball (rather than just any old big hit) which can be coached down a little - he takes risks but he trusts his reads and obviously does work in the film room - i guess i just like him more than others do - if im honest this safety class seems a little underwhelming as a whole (although that might just be because last year's was an unbelievable safety class)

I thought one of those would be to put Isaiah Oliver where he should be. I think he's #3 CB this year at worst.

i mean all the corners are slightly lower than they probably should be but i dont see him as clearcut number 3:

i think denzel ward is alone at number 1, josh jackson is the clear number 2 and then i really think the shorter slottier guys look great - mike hughes, jaire alexander, donte jackson all look like great players to me and i love how physical carlton davis gets in press albeit im very worried about his ball skills - im not saying isaiah oliver shouldnt be in that group because he is in that group (number 7 cb and 54 on my board) but i prefer the others

i think you could make an argument he's cb 4 but i personally have him at cb7

I have Jackson at #1, then Oliver and Ward sharing #2 and #3 but I think Oliver will be better in pros than Ward.

I'll peruse the whole document later, but just a shout out for recognizing my boy Fred Warner.
Hes got great coverage skills and is probably the most fluid athlete at LB in this entire class. I just think his tackling and play strength could use some work
