Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Maybe the skins were right all along.

NEVER

i mean given that he could be 3 years into a long-term deal for a lot less money and no guarantees i think they got wrecked - and in so doing they also wrecked the market value of all other qbs in the league for every other team

and whatever else kirk cousins does in this league he should always be remembered as the guy who started to get franchise qbs paid closer to their true value

This is very true, but even he has to thank Brock Osweiler or else he would have been ok with thst 3 yr 16m per season contract Bruce Allen tried to give him after his first full year as the starter.

Didn't we start all that with Flacco's $120M contract?

Yeah but also its a reminder of not to put all your eggs in the basket. The Vikings signed him as a way to get over the hump into the Super Bowl. Yet so far barely hanging onto the 6th seed in the NFC has said he's not worth the contract they gave him.

nope not really

there's no real reason why the vikings shouldnt be better - they have an ostensibly better qb even if kirk cousins has underperformed at times (he's still a better qb than case keenum), they have a better all around roster

what's changed is their coaching staff in places - pat shurmur is a massive miss for the vikings and he was given a lot of stick earlier on this season but the giants are suddenly watchable on offence again

i think it just demonstrates how much of a difference scheme and playcalling make to an offence
also the importance of style as well as quality - cousins is a better qb than keenum of course but is his style better suited to the vikings - you could argue that maybe keenum's a better fit for that offence being more of a gunslinger type qb

Oakland files antitrust lawsuit against NFL
The City of Oakland has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against the Raiders and the NFL for what it calls the team's "illegal" planned move to Las Vegas.

The city is seeking "millions" in damages and for the Raiders to "pay off the approximately $80 million in debt remaining from renovations at the Coliseum." It's a long shot, but the practical takeaway is that this could be the team's last year in the city. It has said it would not play in Oakland in 2019 if the city filed suit. Without Oakland, the team could be forced to play in a temporary home. San Antonio has been mentioned as a possibility in the past.

"Per Ben Roethlisberger, the outdated X-ray machine in Oakland didn't work right, so Steelers couldn't identify his injury, which delayed his return to Sunday's game"

Translation:

there was no injury and he needs an excuse for his histrionics

This is like getting a divorce, then suing your ex for finding a new lover. The city of Oakland had YEARS and YEARS to work on a new stadium for the Raiders but did nothing to get a deal done. The Raiders shared a horrible outdated stadium with the A's for so long and now the city is probably going to lose the Athletics to Portland once they get their Major League Baseball Stadium built. For the city of Oakland to cry foul when they did nothing to show they cared about the Raiders staying, is just ridiculous. Even St. Louis had a stadium proposal for a new stadium for the Rams and at least SHOWED a desire to keep the Rams even though Stan was hell bent on moving to LA regardless.

Where are they operating on these guys? Public toilets?

Derrius Guice had additional knee surgeries

An infection in Derrius Guice's torn ACL required three additional knee surgeries and brings his 2019 availability into question.

Guice tore his ACL last preseason and should've made a smooth recovery, but the infection severely complicated his rehab. The infection lasted two months after Guice's ACL tear, "prompting seven weeks of heavy rounds of antibiotics through a catheter in his arm." Guice admitted there is "no specific timeline" for his return. This is especially unfortunate news after Alex Smith's complicated broken-leg surgery put Smith's NFL future into doubt.
