Free Agency 2019

I have to say. After staying up past midnight waiting to see where Lil Bell dropped his contract, I’m super happy with these signings today.
Yeah - particularly because we got Ingram for $5 instead of the number of $7.5 that was being thrown around yesterday.

But Thomas is the real kicker. As of yesterday, he was with the new division favorite Browns. So getting him was double awesome.

I have to think we're out on Houston. I have to think Thomas is our one high profile get. What other edge rushers are available?

I think anyone OLB that fits a 3-4 would die to come here. Given our secondary, we'll give whoever we put on the edge a lot of time to get to the QB

markus golden could be nice - heard nothing about any interest in him from anywhere
houston's still a possibility depending on the price and interest he's getting from elsewhere - might be someone we're tempted at pursuing a little harder because he wouldnt count in the comp pick formula

Interesting from Mike Triplette:

"My understanding from sources on how Mark Ingram wound up leaving New Orleans for just a few extra $$ per year: Ingram was seeking a lot more than three years, $15 million from the Saints and never gave any indication he'd sign for that amount. And Saints felt they had to move on so they didn't miss out on Latavius Murray too. Would they have paid that much to keep Ingram? Maybe, maybe not. But they never got a counter-offer in that ballpark. Meanwhile, the Saints' best offer was four years, $17 million with only $5 million guaranteed, per source. And Baltimore offered more guaranteed money, in addition to a possible bigger role in the offense. Would Ingram have stayed in New Orleans for the same offer? Again — maybe, maybe not, but the Saints never offered as much. ... It's a shame we'll never find out, but it's also possible this ends in a win-win for both sides."

so ironically it looks like slow-playing this one ended up with us getting the player for cheap - we decided we could wait, the saints didnt so signed someone else which meant that we ended up leveraging more power and ingram couldnt use the saints to make us pay more or vice versa...

unless he flops then hose guarantees arent going to be a big difference

Nah. We’re drafting AJ Brown. He is a younger faster boldin
I'd take him, but I'm just wary of taking another WR in the first. Isn't that where he's projected?

good point made on nfl network about the seahawks scheme and ours:

earl thomas might not be a good option for playcalling the defence - the seahawks scheme is based on really simple concepts and fairly basic principles and the ravens defence (despite having been simplified a lot this year by wink) is a lot more various and complex than the seahawks defence he's been embedded in for 9 years - so while im not worried about his ability to learn the defence because he's a really smart guy i wonder if he's going to get the green dot because of that...

I'm sure it's him that tweeted the other day asking for the Steelers to draft him and that he'd be their new AB but wanted a different number (obviously didn't want the comparison).
