The Random Thought Thread

I’d take Mack as well because Mack is the 2nd or 3rd greatest defender of his entire generation and Ramsey is just one of the best corners currently.

Taking one player who’s in an entirely different category of eliteness over another, doesn’t make said players position more important.
I understand one player doesn't make the position more important. I shouldn't have used that in the same post or atleast clarified it better. I also know it's difficult to have a good defense just missing either pass rush or good corners.

he said his gut feeling was Eagles, Seahawks, Chiefs or Ravens...
I'd like him to land in the NFC, if we don't land him and yes, I'd certainly be ok with Ramsey if we didn't have to give up the farm. I was on the Ramsey train during the first Bengals game in 2015. I believe that was game four or five.

My bad. I saw a trade idea consisting of a 1st, a 5th and Hayden Hurst. Not sure that would be enough though.

This would be a shocker! In conversations I've had with Eric DeCosta his goal is to build a sustained winner, not loading up for a season or two. Giving up 3 high-end draft picks and last year's No. 1 flies in the face of that goal.

Hayden Hurst, a 1st and a 3rd this year plus a 2nd or 3rd for Jalen is what I've heard. Id rather they not trade him at all...

Yep, wouldn't make much sense.

I mean they get this, they lock up the secondary as elite for the next 6 years. You can then pour every pick you have into OLine and LBs because those will be only weak positions.

Oh fuck no lol. Jalen my guy. Wanted him badly but thats too much.

In terms of pass-rush vs. CB, you remember our 2014 divisional playoff game against the Pats? Our amazing pass-rush didn't do shit because our secondary were full of guys we picked up from the streets.

i like hayden hurst and all, but a first and hurst, and MAYBE a third, would be worth it for me. if we traded hurst and he turned out to be average at best and then the picks bust, its a robbery, and the crapshoot nature of the draft suggests thats exactly what would happen.

im fine either way, just saying that many folks gave the bears hell for giving up what they did for mack, but nobody is laughing now, and bringing ramsey to this squad, with all the downsides of his price tag, probably brings a super bowl here. fact is, the entire NFL would shid their pants if ramsey joined us

That was the perfect storm. A team besides the Pats I think we could have handled, but those short timing routes have hurt season secondaries. That and the guys we had weren't even #2s.

If pass rush is more important then CBs then why are the teams with great pass rush but average CBs never contenders but teams with great CBs and average pass rush (at best) winning SBs.

Its because pass rushers win games outright against awful Olines but the road to the SB requires facing 1 or 2 good ones and then they shut down the pass rush. There's also the QBs who just get the ball out too fast and put pressure on the CBs so they better be good especially because good CBs shut down WRs (which is also why I think WRs are drastically overpaid).
It's just an opinion for me. I don't think you are necessarily wrong, but I would rather have an elite pass rusher than an elite CB if we're comparing two equal players. That said...

Yes, you can't do much with a garbage secondary. Pass rush won't win if the secondary can't cover somewhat. Same can be said that the secondary can only hold out so long if the pass rush blows. It really is match-up dependent. But if we're talking equal players, I would go with an elite pass rusher first then an elite CB. That's just my personal philosophical belief on defense. Doesn't mean I want a secondary of Frank Walker & Melvins out there or Fabian Washingtons.

I’d do this in a heartbeat. Don’t care what anyone says. I wouldn’t do it if we didn’t have Mark but we do. Hayden is old for a second year player and we’ve whiffed many times before on 2nd and 3rd rounders. Damn, EDC would have some balls to pull this off though. I’m all for it

If we are willing to trade Hayden Hurst and a 1st round pick and another pick, I'm good with that for Ramsey. Kinda is a risk though since you'd lose depth at another big area for this offense. It could be a sustained loss, though.

The defense would be locked up. We have the pieces on defense with this move and just need to re-sign guys. Jimmy is gone next year and all we need is OL. We can find OL in the 2nd and beyond. MAKE. THE. MOVE!

Still, Dean Pees lost that game in my book. He let his own D get gassed by giving Brady all the short stuff.

Who gave the Bears Hell for Mack? That trade was a steal IMO.

I'd do Hurst + 1st and a 2021 pick; however, I feel like a 2020 1st & 3rd + Hayden + 2021 2nd or 3rd Pick is a lot. If it's 2020 1st + Hayden + 2021 2nd then that's fine by me.
